Facebook bans ‘juvenile boobies’ birds advert

FACEBOOK has banned an advert for Christmas Island’s Bird ‘n’ Nature Week. The call to see the imperilled “juvenile booby” birds breached the website’s decency guidelines.

Says Linda Cash, marketing manager of the Christmas Island Tourism Association:

“We presumed our original advert was blocked automatically so we appealed to Facebook directly who re-affirmed the campaign was banned due to the sexual language, particularly the use of the word `boobies’,”

The Brown Booby, the Red-footed Booby and the Abbott’s Booby are of great appeal to twitchers.
