Spare a thought for Michael Le Vell, victim of the tabloid-friendly cult of child abuse

by | 10th, September 2013

Coronation Street actor Michael Le Vell hugged by his sister Sue outside Manchester Crown Court after he was cleared of child sex offences.

SPARE a thought for Michael Le Vell, or “Coronation Street actor Michael Le Vell, as he is known. The 48-year-old has been cleared of 12 child sex abuse charges, including rape.

Michael Turner, to use his real name, is the victim. His accuser, said he’d attacked her from six until she was 14. She remains anonymous.

He stood in a glass dock for all to see.

Former Coronation Street actor Nigel Pivaro, who played Terry Duckworth, said:

“He has suffered two years of hell and, probably due to his high profile, far more than most.”

He’s not wrong. The tabloids went for him. In the cult of child abuse, when Operation Yewtree is in full cry and the Celebrity Police Force arrest Jim Davidson in public to make themselves look good after the Jimmy Savile scandal, Le Vell was fair game. If Davidson(innocent) can be arrested at Heathrow Airport on the eve of appearing in Big Brother (yep, he was flying into the UK), then Le Vell can be slapped all over the Mirror’s front page, including the hideous front-page: “The Truth About My Guilty Secret.

No-one hired him for his morals.
