Real Madrid ‘stole’ Spurs loving Gareth Bale from Manchester United

HOW’S Gareth Bale getting along since moving to Real Madrid from Spurs?

Well, Real’s president Florentino Perez says that he got Bale at a great price. Sure, it was €100m (£85.3m) but that’s a a steal. As he says:

“Bale has come cheaply. Signing the best players out there is Madrid’s philosophy and Bale was the best available player on the market this summer. We had been following him for two years. Tottenham did not want to sell. We learned that Manchester United had made an offer and we made one ourselves.”

And then in case that’s not enough for you to view Perez as the great wheeler-dealer, he adds:

“Since childhood he had had the dream of playing for Real Madrid and he asked us to make it possible for him to come.”

Which makes you wonder why in June 2012 – with Real looking on –  Bale signed a new Spurs contact, committing his future to the club until 2016 and stating his “love” for it and the fans?

Perez adds:

“All the great players of Real Madrid have been cheap. I will not say the amount, but we must not focus too much on the purchase price.”

Best not to.

“All the important players have been cheap for Real Madrid. That is why we lead the Forbes list. It was shown with Figo, Zidane, Beckham and Ronaldo. Even though they were very expensive, we went from losing money to making money.”

Real Madrid are £500m in debt.
