MADELEINE McCANN:  Anorak’s at-a-glance look at the missing child in the news:

The Daily Mail has a question:

Is this some other poor parent’s Maddie? Police appeal for help identifying blonde girl, 4, found living on gypsy camp in Greece after charging couple with abduction

The blonde with the gypsies. Always the gypsies.

Greek authorities have requested international help to identify a four-year-old girl found living in appalling conditions in a gypsy camp with a couple whom they have arrested and charged with abducting her. The child was found on Wednesday near Farsala in central Greece during a routine search of the camp by police looking for drugs and weapons.

A routine search.

The girl reportedly sparked one of the officer’s curiosity as she is blonde, pale skinned and bore no resemblance to the other Roma children or the couple who claimed to be her parents.

That is not always an indication.

A 39-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman have been arrested and charged with abducting a minor. Police said they offered conflicting accounts about the girl, one claiming that she was found in a blanket, the other claiming she had been handed to them by strangers.

And:

The case bears a disturbing similarity to theories about the disappearance of British toddler Madeleine McCann, who went missing on a family holiday in Portugal on May 3, 2007.

It does? It surely has more to do with Ben Needham, who went missing in Kos.

The Mail then wades in on gypsies:

Roma gangs have been accused of trafficking hundreds of children to and from countries including Britain to mug and steal as part of an ‘international criminal network’. Boys and girls as young as 10 are being used to make more than £2000 a month each, through crimes organised by Fagin-like bosses.

Fagin was fictional Jew. And an accusation is not the same thing as a fact. Apart from that, Simon Tomlinson and Daniel Miller are spot on in their reporting, which is a rehash of an Associated Press report that makes not a single mention of Madeleine McCann.

Anyhow, here’s what the Express says of the child who has no DNA link to the people who claimed to be her parents:

Hope for Maddie: A child ‘snatched’ from parents discovered alive in Greek gypsy site

As it is, the police have no idea who the child is, where she came from, how she got there nor why she was there? Such are the facts…

PS – what odd the child’s parents don’t want to be found?
