Arsenal Balls: Giroud Goes From Critics’ Zero To Know-All Hacks’ Hero

by | 25th, November 2013

HOW well are Arsenal doing with Olivier Giroud in attack? John Cross knows. He writes in the Mirror:

Giroud may not be Suarez but he is a key reason why Arsenal are top of the Premier League.

No “may” about it. He isn’t. He’s Olivier Giroud. He “leaves the critics on their knees”.

Critics like…John Cross, who opined on August 22:

“THIS game showed why Arsenal have spent the whole summer trying to buy a striker. Giroud was the worst culprit… his finishing looks anything but top class”

Although by September, Cross was telling his readers:

…while journalists like me spent the summer asking him about his future and possible new arrivals, Giroud knuckled down and worked even harder. In preseason, you could tell Giroud had a point to prove. After scoring five goals already, you can tell Giroud is determined to have the last laugh.

He resembles a classic English centre forward: good team player, physical presence, flick-ons and layoffs. He’s been in good goal-scoring form and his all-round game has improved

It’s amazing what winning can do for a player’s profile.
