Amanda Knox: The Book Sequel And Celebrity Are In The Bag

LIKE an episode of Dynasty, two women fight for the headlines. One one side, there’s Amanda ‘ Foxy’ Knox, the blonde “she-Devil” who snogged her lover in a way that had one writer thinking of Adolf Eichmann. Against her is Meredith Kercher, the silent and goodly brunette. Theirs has been a trial in three parts. The hearts are with Kercher, but the headlines are all Knox’s.
As one wag put it: “Look, the only thing that girl’s guilty of is being beautiful and maybe murder.”
Knox is now a fugitive from Italian justice. Safe in the bosom of righteous Americans she is kicking and screaming against any attempts by the Italians to get her to an Italian prison. Sure, she’s been sentenced to 28 years and six months in jail for her role in Kercher’s murder, but she’s no intention of serving her sentence.
How they’ve changed
Such is the media feeding frenzy over this that the Times (prop. R. Murdoch) continues to bill Knox as the “alleged” killer. Today it reports that her “alleged accomplice, Raffaele Sollecito, had crossed from Italy into Austria to await the verdict in what police said was apparent preparation to flee if the court ordered his arrest.” (He came back.)
Alleged? Of course, if it’s only alleged that Knox can pen a sequel to her book published by Harper Collins (prop. R. Murdoch) and become a media darling. It won’t be the bullshit story of a murderous lunatic’s lies; it will be the story of human suffering with a photogenic face and a swarthy, foreign enemy with a Medieval mind.
But maybe it can be alleged because Knox and Sollecito, who was sentenced to to 25 years in prison, can remain free pending their final appeal to Italy’s highest court.
