TRANSFER Balls: Anorak’s seasonal look at the bilge and to-deadline guesswork passing for news in the mainstream media. Today the Telegraph reports:

Chelsea are already hopeful of signing the Atlético striker Diego Costa

Indeed, as the Tele reported on April 15th:

Chelsea closing in on £80 million Atlético Madrid striker Diego Costa

In May Sky Sports announced:

Chelsea have agreed a £32m deal with Atletico Madrid for striker Diego Costa

And then The Metro told readers:

Costa has also accepted personal terms on a five-year contract, with the move set to be formally announced at the end of the season.

So. How can Chelsea be “hopeful” of getting the player they have already signed?

And the Mirror says Costa’s move means a different address for another player:

Chelsea’s Diego Costa transfer has made Romelu Lukaku an Atletico Madrid target…

With prolific Spain international Costa also set to join Jose Mourinho’s side after the World Cup, however, Lukaku’s agents are exploring his options.

So. Is Costa a Chelsea player or not?

More Transfer Balls every day…
