WuBabies: Raekwon Shows Off Baby Wu

by | 1st, July 2014

WHEN Wu Tang first exploded on the scene, they were smart, funny, dangerous, brutal, angry, fierce and not exactly entry-level hip hop.

However, after a dazzling run of solo LPs and the classic Wu debut ’36 Chambers’, they soon became rap royalty and no-one could touch the RZA, the GZA, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Inspectah Deck, Raekwon the Chef, U-God, Ghostface Killah and the M.E.T.H.O.D. Man.

Then, something weird happened. They became part of the furniture. While promoting gangbangers, drug deals, drug use and obscure kung fu films, they were the middle class muso’s hip hop group du jour. They became something of a meme.

And now, it has most certainly happened as twin babies have been named after the Clan’s Raekwon and Ghostface Killah.

Welcome to the world, the newborns Raekwon and Ghostface Lieberman.

The news was shared by Raekwon himself on Instagram, as you can see below. He wrote: “This is live, family named their twins Raekwon & ghostface!!! #wu4thebabies”.

See? They’re a meme. They haven’t released a decent record in years, but they get babies named after them, presumably the parents knowing there’ll be internet notoriety awaiting.

This is half decent publicity for the Wu though.

RZA and Raekwon have patched things up after falling out when Rae said that Wu Tang might be better off without their legendary producer for a bit.

They’ve now finished the new Wu Tang Clan album ‘A Better Tomorrow’ (which is different from the ‘The Wu – Once Upon A Time In Shaolin’ album, which is limited to just one copy and being auctioned off for a shit ton of money).

If things go wrong for the Wu, they can always hope the Lieberman family have enough children to replace the original rappers.
