PHEW! Jesus The Jew Would Approve of Gay Marriage, Says Elton John

MOST people who don’t like gays are religious, or at least, religious sympathetic. They think homosexuality goes against nature or some kind of cosmic order.

Some are violent or abusive toward gay people, because presumably, they feel the need to serve up justice because they don’t believe their god is up to the job, cometh the hour. The inherent weakness of deities must be a constant concern for the praying sorts.

Or, maybe it is something to do with deities being into homosexuality?

Elton John reckons that Jesus Christ would approve of gay marriage. In an interview with Sky News, Sir Elton added that he’s meeting up with RussianĀ President Vladimir Putin in a bid to try and improve Russia’s gay rights record.

“If Jesus Christ was alive today, I cannot see him – as the Christian person that he was and the great person that he was – saying this could not happen,” said John. “He was all about love, compassion, forgiveness and trying to bring people together. That’s what the church should be about.”

Er…Only Jesus wasn’t a Christian. He was a Jew. And then there was that bit about violence:

“Think not that I am come to send peace on earth; I came not to send peace, but a sword…” Matthew, 10:34, KJV

Still, heĀ has a point, maybe. Jesus would inevitably be more against great wealth, greed, corruption and the rape of children within various large organisations to even begin to prioritise same sex marriage.

Elton did point out that some religious sorts had improved their attitudes to homosexuality, saying that he saw “signs of hope” in the more tolerant views shown by Pope Francis and Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury. The Church of England’s refusal to allow gay clergy to marry was “old and stupid”.

On the Putin meeting: “I don’t know what good it will do, but unless you build a bridge, it’s no good putting up a wall and saying ‘I’m not talking to these people.’ The only thing that gets solved is by talking to people.”

Elton is already shacked up with David Furnish after they had a civil rights ceremony in 2005. However, they are now considering a big ol’ marriage. Elton said: “It’ll be very quiet and off the cuff. We had our big shebang when we had our civil union.”
