Lancashire School Sends Out This Letter Pandering To The Thickos

by | 15th, July 2014

THIS letter was sent by Barrowford Primary School to its leavers. The school in Nelson, Lancashire, apologises for the children’s education. It praises the things pupils aren’t tested on: their holiday destinations; languages spoken; musical instruments played; and how the children ‘wonder about the future’.

The school assures the leavers that not doing well in Ks2 tests is not the end of the world. In fact, they should be “proud” of whatever they scored, even it was a rubbish mark.

Children are more than poxy SATS score. Well, of course  they are.

But it’s a bit soft, isn’t it?  The letter fails to praise the children who did really well at maths, English and reading. In fact, they don’t get a mention.

There are sound arguments for better assessment and alternative approaches to learning. But when a school says everyone did well, it overlooks the fact that children know when they haven’t. They’re not stupid. Time to stop treating them like they are…
