Transfer Balls: Arsenal Get Khedira Before Chelsea And Manchester United Turn Down Angel Di Maria
IS Sami Khedira heading to Arsenal, Chelsea or Manchester United? Transfer Balls investigates what the media experts have been reporting on the Real Madrid player.
Sami Khedira could be heading for Bayern Munich, as he misses Real Madrid’s Spanish Super Cup clash to watch his brother play in Germany
So. German goes to Germany. Read all about it! Did Khedira met with Bayern Munich? No.
But Charlie Eccleshare has more facts:
…it is unclear whether Bayern’s manager Pep Guardiola is interested in the World Cup winning midfielder.
By “unclear”, he means ‘I have no idea’. But.,.
Sportsmail understands that Khedira is not Guardiola’s first choice for the central midfield position, which could put the breaks on the deal.
What deal? And why does Sportsmail “understand” this? It offers no sources and no quotes.
The Mail just understands.
The Bayern manager does not always get his own way however, and was left frustrated by the departure of Toni Kroos to Real Madrid this summer, so it may be that Khedira will join the club even if the Spaniard is not entirely sure about him.
Got that? Maybe Guardiola wants Khedira. Maybe he doesn’t. Maybe it matters. Maybe it doesn’t.
And then he nails it:
Khedira had been linked with a move to the Premier League earlier in the summer, with Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal all reportedly interested, but no firm bid has yet been made.
No “firm bids”. But lots of soft ones?
You want more facts?
Well, one day earlier (August 22) the Express yelled:
Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal’s Sami Khedira hopes dashed after Bayern Munich swoop
So. Bayern made an offer a day before the Mail said they hadn’t?
MANCHESTER UNITED, Chelsea and Arsenal’s slim hopes of signing German international Sami Khedira looked to have completely evaporated after Bayern Munich surged ahead in the race for his signature.
Did Bayern bid? No.
The Express then adds:
The German champions should have no problem in matching the 27-year-old’s astronomical £120,000 per-week wages.
But the Express told readers:
Khedira wants “a dream move to the Premier League (July 28)
Khedira is on £150,000-a-week (July 11)
Khedira’s wage demands have put off the north London club, with the Real Madrid star thought to be asking for an eye-watering £170,000-a-week (August 5)
United sources indicate Van Gaal is also not looking at signing Khedira’s club team-mate Angel Di Maria, despite him also being available for sale. (August 22)
But Khedira’s not heading to Arsenal. He’s heading to Bayern. The Mail and Express agree on that. Or as the Metro says today:
Arsenal clear to complete Sami Khedira transfer as Real Madrid confirm exit
Chelsea have also been linked with the 27-year-old, but currently have no space in their squad for another foreign player, leaving Arsenal in pole position.
And finally, that part about Manchester United not wanting Angel Di Maria is covered in today’s Independent:
