Manchester United Balls: A £60m Bid For Paul Pogba Sees Off Miserly Chelsea And Real Madrid

by | 4th, September 2014

AND on it goes. The Summer Tranfer Season is over but the rumour mill keeps on churning. The Mirror’s “Football Spy” (picture Mr Bean reading a Google news feed) says Manchester Untied “plan to bring Paul Pogba BACK to Man United next summer”.

Well, not quite. What the Mirror says is that Manchester United “plan to bring Paul Proba back to Man Untetd next summer?”

Yeah. Its’ the Mirror’s old trick of delivering utter balls as a question.

As for the story, the Football Spy tells readers:

Louis van Gaal could be set to bring Paul Pogba BACK to Old Trafford next summer – Manchester United are lining up a £60m bid (Daily Express).

Yep, they could be. The Mirror’s website doesn’t bother to link to the source of its information. But we went to the Express and read on:

No conniving question marks in the Express. Just a statement that Manchester United are “plotting” to buy Paul Pogba.

And the scoop?

According to reports in France, Juventus are hopefully of agreeing [sic] a new deal with Pogba but would rather sell him next summer as opposed to losing him on a free transfer in 2016.

Got that? Juventus would rather sell Pogba for a fortune than see him leave for nothing. Hold. The. Back. Page!

Discussing Pogba’s future at the club, Juventus CEO Beppe Marotta claimed: “Pogba? We have had some negotiation with his agents, we hope to arrive at a positive conclusion shortly.” However, if the two parties cannot come to an agreement then United are set to swoop for the £60m-rated star.

Are they? What source tells us that, then? None. The Express offers up none. And it does not identify the “source” in France who says Pogba to United is on. Maybe, like the Mirror’s Football Spy, the Express’ Alex Harris is sworn to secrecy?

But, anyhow, we know that if such and such happens and the moon is at the right angle then Pogba is heading to Manchester United.

Or as Harris notes:

They are likely to face stiff competition from Real Madrid and Chelsea but the Red Devils have demonstrated in recent weeks their willingness to splash the cash in the transfer market.

And Real Madrid and Cheslea haven’t spent big?

More balls every day…
