Chelsea Balls: Wtch Jose Mourinho Play For Rio Ave In 1981

by | 23rd, September 2014

ONCE upon a time, Jose Mourinho wanted to be a professional footballer, like his father Felix.

Felix Vitoria kept goal for Setubal and Belenenses. He won a Portugal cap in a 2-1 win over the Republic of Ireland in 1972.

Jose was no great shakes at playing the game with his feet. So he started playing it with his head and, vitally, his mouth.

There’s not much evidence of Jose’s playing career, but we can bring you this video from Portugal back in 1981. Mourinho, aged about 18 or 19,  is being paraded along with the rest of Rio Ave’s squad. Of course, the team was managed by his dad, with Mourinho Snr providing the voice-over…

That cocky-arsed smile! It could only be Jose!
