Liverpool Balls: Brendan Rodgers Admits Suarez Was the ‘Core’ Of The Team

by | 26th, September 2014

WHY are Liverpool doing not all that well in the Premier League? Brendan Rodgers, the Reds’ verbose mangaer, knows:

“When you introduce a raft of new players and lose the core of players, that’s obviously a factor and then it becomes a little bit broken and that’s how our game has looked for me for a big part of the season.”

For Liverpool’s final game of the 2013-14 season, this was the starting XI:

22 Mignolet
05 Agger
37 Skrtel
38 Flanagan (Cissokho – 45′ )
02 Johnson
24 Allen (Coutinho – 59′ )
14 Henderson
08 Gerrard
31 Sterling
07 Suárez
15 Sturridge (Lucas – 80′ Booked )

Below are the Players hwo left Liverpool over the summer. We’ve highlighted the ones who played in that match:

Luis Suarez (Barcelona, £75m), Pepe Reina (Bayern Munich £2m), Martin Kelly (Crystal Palace, £1.5m), Conor Coady (Huddersfield, £500,000), Daniel Agger (Brondby, undisclosed), Jack Robinson (QPR, undisclosed), Luis Alberto (Malaga, loan), Iago Aspas (Sevilla, loan), Andre Wisdom (West Brom, loan), Divock Origi (Lille, loan), Brad Smith (Swindon, loan), Joao Carlos Teixeira (Brighton, loan), Tiago Llori (Bordeaux, loan), Jordan Ibe (Derby, loan), Sebastian Coates (Sunderland, loan), Oussama Assaidi (Stoke, loan)

Were Suarez and Agger the “core” of the Liverpool team? We though it was just Suarez who elevated Liverpool from mediocre to almost champions..?
