WITH any luck the plague of “black-eyed children” will have a taste for ebola, rather than a liking for blue-eyed children, who are the tabloids’ preferred little monsters.

Following news of a black-eyed child-sized ghost playing peek-a-boo in Cannock Chase comes news that the planet if rife with a tribe of such beings.

The Star’s Jimmy McCloskey has news:

Paranormal experts have reported a puzzling rise in the number of frightening apparitions that have been recorded.

How you become a paranormal expert is a moot point, but owning the TV’s Most Haunted boxset and thinking Blithe Spirit a documentary are entry-level modules open to all.

In the UK, the black eyed ghost of Cannock Chase has returned after a 30 year absence striking terror among locals. It is unclear what has caused the sudden jump in sightings, but it is causing alarm among those who monitor the supernatural world.

Shesh! Even the fifth dimension is on CCTV. Is there no escape?

Frightened Daily Star readers have called in to say they’ve also seen the creatures in Liverpool, Scotland and the South West.

The Daily Star once declared is support for the EDL. It’s firghtened readers very possibly poke black-skinned pople in the ribs to see if they’re made of coal and point at the moon.

Experts say black eyed kids are among the most terrifying figures to emerge from “the other side”. They are said to represent the “highest levels of pure evil”.

Time for an expert view:

Ghoul boffin Luke Norris, who runs Omen Paranormal Events said: “A lot more people are aware of spirits now. This means people are more open to seeing them – which in itself means they are more likely to spot them. Black-eyed children have this darkness in their eyes tend to mean that someone else is controlling them…”

The website for Omen Paranormal Events informs us:

We are a paranormal event company with over forty years combined experience within the paranormal arena.

Based in the North West, we travel across the UK providing paranormal events including Ghost Hunts, Psychic Demonstrations, Medium based shows, private parties etc. We have two main motives, to capture and provide evidence.

Any evidence captured? The website features none we can see. We do see Mr Norris, the “ghoul boffin”:

Hi I’m Luke and I’m the team spiritualist medium. I have been talking, hearing and seeing spirit for many years and I work closely with my guides in love and light and enjoy what I do.

But you might not love it. As he tells the Star:

“If you see a ghost with black eyes you could well be in trouble.”

Well, you’re the expert. Non-experts might have thought seeing a dead-eyed child was a prelude to big Lottery win. It isn’t. Probably.

But despite their innocent appearances ghost buffs warn the appearance of a black eyed child is often a sign of impending doom.

That undead child singing nursery rhymes is the picture of innocence?

But what are these creatures?

Paranormal experts believe they may be aliens or vampires rather than ghosts, the spirits of dead people .

The experts think they could be vampires or aliens or ghosts or a new type of grapefruit. If the experts don’t know, are we all doomed? The idea of aliens navigating the cosmos to play hide-and-seek in Cannock Chase is an intoxicating one.

Another expert, Lee Brickley, 28, says the apparations might be linked to the “Cornovii, a Celtic tribe known for their blood sacrifices”, “a mass hallucination” or “weird, covert military stuff”.

They are usually said to be between six and 16 years old, with terrifying hollow black eyes and ghostly white skin with a corpse-like bluish tint. Many are said to speak with adult voices and in a way that suggests they are far older than their appearance suggests.

They’ve had a hard life.

It’s all wonderful stuff, and Jimmy McCloskey slips into a flowery mode, posssessed, if you will, by the language of the 19th Century preacher man:

In the United States, there have been several reports of the the ghouls appearing at people’s doors and asking to come inside. Shielding their face, they hose the owner with charm giving them a false reason why they need to to use the phone or hide from an unspecified danger. But once inside they will suddenly turn on the owner and cause havoc.

Ever been hosed with charm? Or does sir prefer to be soaked in bullshit?

But let’s not be cynical. Let’s look a few encounters with a BEK.

nosleep2012 (aka nosleepeveragain) writes about a midnight visitor:

It almost felt like a dream. I woke up to my dog, Lucy, barking…

I decided the best bet would be to open the door and show her nothing was there. It sounds a bit silly, but it’s what we do with our daughter when she gets scared, and I figured it should work with a puppy, too… I looked through the peephole. I can’t explain why I looked, but I did. Outside were two kids.

One was just a smidgen shorter than me, and didn’t look much younger. I’m 21, and she looked to be 16 or 17. She was slender and pale. Her hair was a light shade of honey blonde, and she wore it long, about mid-back, with long, thin, blunt bangs in the front that covered most of her eyes. She wore jeans, a light-wash that’s popular right now, and a thin-looking olive colored pullover style hoodie. She held the hand of a small girl, who looked to be around 3 or 4, in the same style jeans and a button-down ivory cardigan. The smaller one looked at the floor shyly, but had the same shade of hair, tied back in a ponytail. She held a stuffed toy under her free arm, and it was identical to one my daughter has – as was their style of dress. Had it not been for the feeling of overwhelming dread and fear, I probably would have asked these children in and given them some tea or hot chocolate to get them out of the bitter cold. Something about them seemed off...

Call it intuition.

As someone who has always been interested in creepy stories, I knew what she was the second she looked at me through the door…

And him:

“I was skateboarding at around 10:30 last night and i had stopped to take a rest when i was approached by two kids one with blonde hair and a baseball cap pointed and a skateboard painted all black on the bottom and the other slightly less intimitdating as he look to be around 8 he had blonde hair also and was wearing a spiderman shirt the older one spoke to me as i had my head hanging low.”

“Hey, kid can you help us were lost we need to use a phone can you take us to your house?” I looked up at them and immediatly felt Dread and dispair i stood up quickly sensing something was wrong ” Uh, you can use my cellphone if you want” the older kid seemed annoyed then and look me in the eyes it was then that i noticed they were black all black not in white i could see ” Hey cool contacts where did you get them” i asked.”

“There not Contacts” he said flatly ” Yea well sorry i couldn’t help you guys out but im going inside” i turned around and started to ride but somehow the older kid caught up with me and grabbed my sholder ” YOU will let us use your phone WE NEED TO GO INSIDE BUT WE CAN”T IF YOU DON”T TAKE US TO YOUR HOUSE” it was at this point i hit him in the face…

Kapow! Two blake eyes.

A survivor’s tale:

I have read many accounts of these black eyed kids but I don’t think any really come close to what happened to me when I let two into my house. Some people think that if you let them in that the will kill you, obviously I can say this is not true.

This is what happened, I was sitting in my bedroom at home when I heard a knock on the door, it was not too late so I didn’t hesitate opening the door to whoever it was. when I opened it there was two children standing there, both were looking at the floor. “yes ” I said, the taller one asked if they could come in as they were lost and the other boy needed the toilet. I live in an area where it is very easy to get lost, so I just assumed that they were telling the truth and was looking down because they were shy, even though the one talking, spoke very confidently. so I let them in…

Don’t let strange children into your home late at night. Peopsl can get the wrong idea. A disaster looms.

I told the other one that the phone was down the hall, “thanks” he said and he started to walk down the hall, I followed him and then I suddenly came over with a really awful feeling like something bad was going to happen, I became very nervous and a bit shaky I still cant explain how that happened, the boy stopped at the phone and paused, “everything OK?” I asked, he turned to me and looked up and that’s when I saw his eyes, and trust me I will never get that picture out of my head, I was so scared that I couldn’t even scream as I turned to run down the hall the other kid was standing at the end.

I became very dizzy and struggled to stand up, he walked closer to me and said that they had been sent to collect me, I still couldn’t bear to look into his face, I pushed away from him and ran into my front room and slammed the door shut, I was in so much shock about what was happening I couldn’t think straight, this is something that you don’t even expect to happen even in movies.

In movies it’s pretty much exactly what you expect to happen. The only thing lacking is a scratching noise coming up from the basement.

after standing against the door for around and hour or so I finally got the courage to make a run for the back door, so I ran to it and unlocked it, I ran to the back of my garden and jumped over the fence not once looking back.

my friend lived close so I ran to his house, I told him the story and as I guessed he was a bit skeptic about what I had said. I convinced him to come back with me, when we got there we looked around the whole house but couldn’t find them…

Best check that basement. The one with the single old-style lightbulb with a string switch.

Menawhile, no photos of the children and no CCTV, either…
