Liverpool Balls: Brendan Rodgers Forgets Why He Bought Mario Balotelli
WHY did Brendan Rodgers sign Mario Balotelli for Liverpool?
On Ausut 25, the Liverpool manger told one and all:
“All my life, I have given players an opportunity. Balotelli is 24 years of age, and has become a father now. He knows he has responsibility, not only to himself but to this great club. We will treat him no differently. He is part of our team. The business was very good for us.”
Super Mario had landed at Anfield.
But is the Italian’s heart in it? Is he that good? On October 3, Rodgers shifted his tone:
“Mario was the one right at the very end who was available. We had attempts for other strikers that didn’t materialise for one reason or another so it left us right at the end of the window with a decision”
Signing Mario Balotelli for £16m was less aboout giving the former Manchester City man a chance than it was about getting anyone to replace the great Luis Suarez – which he didn’t.
