Manchester City Balls: Players Move In To Rooms Above The Shop

by | 17th, October 2014

MANCHESTER City’s stars will soon be spending the night before home matches sleeping at the club’s new training ground, the £200 million “City Football Academy” (CFA).

The City players will be the Premier League’s first team to live above the shop.

It’s a big sleepover. But that part’s not new. Until the CFA dorms are ready the City players will continue to spend pre-match nights at the Hilton Hotel in Manchester city centre.

Is this bonding, mollycoddling or an arrangement born of fear that players will oversleep, not sleep at all or will end up bringing their children to work because mum’s had to pop out and there was no-one to look after them?

Football’s changed a lot. On the eve of the 1966 World Cup final, the England team left the Hendon Hall Hotel cinema to see Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines.  They walked there.
