Liverpool Balls: Anfield Gives Rodgers A Boo-Who

by | 9th, November 2014

HOW does the media report on the Liverpool crowd’s reaction to the Red’s 2-1 defeat at home to Chelsea in the Premier League?
In the Sunday Times, it’s the leads sports story:

The story is that Rodgers, not Liverpool, was being booed.
The ever-ludicrous Goal.com tells readers:

…Rodgers was booed by the majority of the 44,698-strong crowd
Liverpool fans have never been the most monocular. It seems odd that over 23,000 of them booed Brendan Rodgers, the club’s manager.
Maybe fans were boing a tactical change:

Daily Mail: “BOOS AT ANFIELD! Was that for Coutinho departing?”

Yes it was, says one other paper:
The Sun: “…fans booed him for taking off Philippe Coutinho”
The Guardian makes it more personal:
“Rodgers heard boos from his home crowd when he withdrew Philippe Coutinho before the end”
The Mail says the boos were not just for Courtinho:
…on Saturday, when he removed Philippe Coutinho and Emre Can on 70 minutes, boos resounded around Anfield.
The Liverpool Echo is more circumspect:
“Unhappy reaction from some sections of the crowd to Rodgers’ substitutions. Coutinho still looked bright but Can was knackered”

And as for the jeers being a sign that the majority of Liverpool fans are now displeased with Rodgers, the Daily Telegraph is measured:

“Squalls of dissent blew towards him from the Kop after 70 minutes when he decided to remove the excellent Emre Can and Philippe Coutinho, sending on Joe Allen and Fabio Borini. It was hardly a mass rebellion but it signalled fans’ unease.”
Such are the facts…
