Transfer Balls: Nicolas Otamendi will only play if Manchester United or Chelsea buy him

by | 15th, July 2015

Transfer Balls spots Nicolas Otamendi. The Sun says he’s threatened to go on strike at Valencia in a bid to “force through a mega-bucks move to Manchester United”.

Is Otamendi really desperate to play for Man United?

The Daily Express expands the market to both big Manchester clubs:

Nicolas Otamendi set to choose between Man Utd and City as agent flies in for crunch talks

You might suppose the agent is flying into Manchester. He isn’t. The agent is flying into Valencia.

The Mail says that Man United will move for Otamendi only if they fail to secure Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid.

The papers adds:

The Real Madrid captain has told Louis van Gaal he wants to join United but the Spanish side are reluctant to sell…

Otamendi is also on Madrid’s list should Ramos go. He is a combative defender who has been outstanding in Valencia’s push for Champions League qualification.

Does Otamendi want to play for Real Madrid? No, says the Mirror:

Nicolas Otamendi wants Man United move sorted in next 10 days before Valencia training begins…

That might be shock to Chelsea, of whom the Express reports:

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is said to be keen on the Argentina international as a long-term replacement for John Terry… Spanish newspaper Super Deporte claim Mourinho has called Otamendi’s agent Jorge Mendes to broker a deal.

But what about Real?

Real Madrid are understood to have already pulled out of the race for the centre-back…

Such are the facts in a story that features not a single quote from any reputable source.
