They say that the best place to hide something is usually right in front of you eyes, because that is the last place people tend to look... this swastika, I think... merits the same... ( it was the "hidden" object.. right in front of your eyes).. I find it kind of ridiculous that people are saying "they didn't know"... what do you mean... the second world war was still very fresh in the minds of the world, back in the 60's... you mean to tell me that the architect behind these barracks was unaware that his building looked like a swastika... that person had to have made a drawing... it's common procedure.. and it obviously would show that the building looks like a symbol that many people hate... so why? Why would they construct something like this? As another poster has mentioned... the swastika is an ancient symbol... but that really is beside the point... when one sees a swastika... we automatically relate it to Hitler and Nazi's.. you would have to agree on that... unless you are amidst that very very minuscule minority...
