Brent Rinehart’s Comic Book Homos
WHO gets offended by cartoons, aside from Barack Obama and Muslim extremists?
Brent Rinehart is an Oklahoma County Commissioner. He is campaigning for reelection.
As reported, he’s been accused of “abusing his office for personal gain”, and is due to go on trial this autumn on felony campaign finance charges.
But it’s not him. If you want to blame somone, blame the homosexuals, liberals and good ol’ boys. (What no Jews? - Ed). Rinehart puts his case in a comic book he’s sending out to voters. he wrote it himself.
You can download it all here.
“It’s more or less a story of my experiences of the last four years of being the county commissioner of District 2,” Rinehart tells The Oklahoman.

Keith Gaddie, a University of Oklahoma political science professor, called the book “one of the strangest things” he’d ever seen.
“I’ve never seen a comic book with the phrase ‘anal sodomy’ in it before. That was a new one for me.”
Gaddie said comics were common political campaign tools decades ago, but not today. “He’s pretty much grinding every ax he’s got from his days in the county commission,” Gaddie said. “In a way, it’s a sophisticated piece.”
The strip, which Rinehart said took him two months to write, opens with a proclamation that Rinehart is a Republican and Christian who stands up to “liberal good ol’ boys” at the county courthouse.
“I do not know who the good ol’ boys at the courthouse are,” said County Assessor Leonard Sullivan, a Republican who has had public disagreements with Rinehart.
“I’ve really encouraged him on more than one occasion to get professional help. He really needs it,” said Sullivan, who is not depicted in the comic.
Can’t wait to see his New Yorker cover…

That cartoon brings a whole new meaning to “Get thee behind me Satan”.
Or am I just being too smutty by half…again.
July 18th, 2008 at 12:00 am
Yep.
I didn’t know there was any other kind of sodomy…
July 18th, 2008 at 7:00 am
Sodomy is any kind of sex that isn’t vaginal… Oral sex, even heterosexual oral sex, is sodomy.
And Mic, I think your reaction was BRILLIANT.

Jen,
Please don’t read any statement of religious intent into my comment. It was there for humorous effect only.
People are entitled to their views of homosexuality, and how it fits into their perception or interpretation of religious scripts.
Personally, I treat everybody as I find them, and try not to pre-judge on the basis of any of the usual pigeonholes that people find themselves shoved into.
Cheers.

Jen, this is seriously bad news for the Mezes 9…
July 18th, 2008 at 6:58 pm
Why do you suppose he has Senator Larry Craig as the spokesman in the comic book?
July 19th, 2008 at 3:30 am
An embarrassment to all Oklahomans. I thought this kind of propaganda was long dead.
July 19th, 2008 at 5:17 am
Riehart is a terrible artist and he cannot even spell pedophile or opportunist. What a dummy!
July 19th, 2008 at 7:25 am
Who knew good ol’ boys were liberal????
He does need help though.
July 19th, 2008 at 9:39 am
Is it still 1935 in Oklahoma? How embarrassing!
July 19th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
Thank God, this guy has finally managed to nail himself to his own cross!
I’ve been waiting for this day for quite some time.
He will be gone soon.
As an Oklahoman, I feel ashamed that one of our mental patients has managed to parade about our streets, duping unsuspecting citizens into thinking he’s some sort of politician.
I apologize to the entire country and we hope to capture Brent very soon and put him back in the mental hospital to continue he treatment.
Again, we as Oklahomans are very sorry for this incident and the damage it has caused our state.

The comic book is hilarious, and I myself have had several hours of chortling over it.
But I am also from Oklahoma City - and I can tell you that this does NOT represent the worldview of the vast majority of Oklahomans - as evidenced by the many quotes from Oklahoma public officials and academics who rightly condemn Rinehart.
Rinehart is a mentally-disturbed narcissist with a penchant for pencil mustaches and corruption, and his (few) supporters are very unbalanced people.
No, Joe B., it is not still 1935 in Oklahoma: Oklahoma City is a thriving metroplex of more than a million people (named by Forbes as among the top 10 recession proof cities, while a suburb, Norman, was named the 6th best small city in America by Money Magazine last week).
I also hope that those with an axe to grind against Christianity will not somehow take this comic book as indicative of a Christian worldview. Frankly, that’s like shooting fish in a barrel. This is a theologically-bankrupt work, if I may put it bluntly. Christians do not believe in a little midget-man Satan with a pitch fork, nor in malnourished angels with magic wands - any more than we believe heaven is filled with angels playing harps (see C.S. Lewis for a better explication of this). That’s a caricature of a caricature of a caricature.
If you’re an atheist, and wish to dispute Christianity, I would not use this comic book for the foundation of your arguments. It is not at all a representation of Christian beliefs - but is instead the product of a diseased mind.
July 21st, 2008 at 4:13 pm
If Oklahomans re-elect this diseased mind, it would be indeed be a reflection of Christian Oklahomans’ world view.

As far as I can tell (Note that I don’t live in Oklahoma, though I do attend college 40 miles from OK City, as such I haven’t received this in the mail or otherwise been able to see the entire book), nothing he’s said is untruthful. As someone who used to live as a homosexual and used to support the homosexual agenda, I know just how awful it really can be. I think Mr. Rinehart relies on a lot of stereotypes and over-generalizes on some aspects of homosexuality, like the pedophilia, but it’s all true (if somewhat over-dramatized).
That being said, I do find Mr. Rinehart’s way of approaching the subject to be very distasteful and immensely un-Christian. Yes, homosexuality is a sin and it should be treated as such, but not to such a degree that it becomes hateful. I stand by the old saying, “hate the sin, not the sinner”, and it seems that Mr. Rinehart has forgotten that. Let’s not forget that homosexuality is just a form of adultery (sex outside of marriage) and it’s no more evil than any other type of sexual sin or deviance. And instead of trying to hurt homosexuals, maybe Mr. Rinehart would be more well received if he actually tried to help them, since it’s very possible to leave the homosexual lifestyle just as I did.

Could it be Stephen that maybe you weren’t gay all along, maybe you were just some horny heterosexual who preyed on the feelings of other gay men? All coins have two sides, too generalize everyone else by your flip of the coin is absurd. Go back under the rock you slid out from under.
July 24th, 2008 at 12:07 am
This is hilarious. I love you Yanks. To Jen…..sodomy is @nal s*x with a male or female. Nowt else love. As for Stephen Skacall……WTF! You are madder than a bag full of squirrels. You used to “live” as an homosexual? What did that entail then sport? A love of soft furnishings? A complete set of Kylie cd’s? An excellant sense of the sartorial? You are dumb. BTW it is impossible to “hate the sin, not the sinner” as thousands of years experience with religious loons has shown. To think otherwise is just hypocracy or stupidity. And then you “left” the homosexual liestyle? Whad’ya do? Go all Scandanavian minimalist? Get into Kenny Rogers? Jeans and T-shirts only? Well said Lou.
July 26th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
What’s to be thought of the people of Oklahoma when this guy is reelected? H.S.
July 27th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
This guy is definitely off his nut. People like him are what is wrong with this country. His is the type of evil that demeans the true spirituality and love that Jesus preached with his own twisted, controlling logic of a theocratic zealot. The same kind of evil control that drove other twisted leaders as the late Jesse Helms. The sooner we wise up and stop paying attention to people like him the better off we will be.
July 27th, 2008 at 5:04 pm
Until Americans become intelligent enough to stop voting for lunatic idiots such as Rinehart and President Bush, we get what we deserve!
July 27th, 2008 at 5:35 pm
It is horrifying how evangelical protestants have turned the word “Christian” into meaning only them. As a Roman Catholic, I am also Christian. As a liberal Catholic, I am gay and still Catholic. I live in a productive relationship with another man. We have helped each other get through grad school and obtain doctoral degrees. Alone I would not have been able to do this. We have both volunteered time to the needy, including disabled vets. The vile attempts of the Evangelic Protestants to call us sinners are on a level with the fanatic (not the moderate) Muslims. I do not in any way feel that our love is a sin. And it is no business of the twisted Rhinehart or Skacall to tell us what we are doing. Maybe we feel that their uttering hateful statements is a sin. By the way, we are going to spend our vacation in Canada, a country that recognizes us as regular people. In the US for the most part we are second class citizens, just due to the hateful Protestants.

well, his horrid views on homosexuality and persecution complex aside, if his claims are true, he does seem to be fairly competent with the counties money. At the very least the 4 day 10 hour work week was a good move.
—————————————
M&A
But since he is apparently under investigation for financial irregularities the ‘fairly competent’ seems rather generous
July 27th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
While I really love delusional politicians, I just can’t bring myself to vote for a grown man who can’t spell.
July 28th, 2008 at 12:19 am
This is where the term “homophobe” comes into play. This moron really and truly fears homosex and homosexuals. No reason for that fear other than his cultural context. The very idea that the younger generation might view homosexuality as normal strikes fear into their midget mentalities because they fear that less babies will be conceived — as if the world needs more babies — and that less men and women will get married — as if marriage is the only measure of normality.
They fear the creation of families other than the traditional type. This is because they refuse to comprehend that the term “family” can include the traditional type and all other types as well. Yet no one can deny that the creation of a family unit is a social good in and of itself, no matter what the composition is.
Ah well, someday civilization will reach Oklahoma and other benighted areas of the world. And remember, we are everywhere, even Oklahoma and Iran.

1) Weird to self-promote yourself.
2) Weird cartoon, in general.
3) Not a good idea to do this sort of stuff no matter who you are.
3) Not nearly as embarrasing as Oklahoma government (local, county and state). How can people get ticked over a cartoon, but turn a blind eye to the crap going on in the county jail alone?
4) Oklahoma values are turned inside out. Say ‘yes’ to violations of basic 14th amendment rights and ‘no’ to dopey cartoons.
5) Forget what I say, or what anyone else says…..let’s get back to what matters most…..Oklahoma, what does Barry think?
July 28th, 2008 at 3:18 am
“But since he is apparently under investigation for financial irregularities the ‘fairly competent’ seems rather generous”
Hence the qualifier, “If his claims are true”
July 28th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
Stephen, you must be an American christian, in which case your stupidity is understandable. And that includes for being a christian as well.
July 28th, 2008 at 4:11 pm
Hey Oklahomans,
Just be thankful that you have this guy and not Fred Phelps and his Westboro Clan here in Kansas. Talk about embarassment…
July 28th, 2008 at 4:50 pm
I’d vote for him. I like reduced government by half.
As for the Gay Issue?
I don’t care, one way or another. I will say that I am really sick of Gay Parades, as they are mostly hedonistic. Plus, there are too many closet cases in government, who can be blackmailed, because they pretend to be married with children.
Take a quick look at whom I am talking about:
Hillary Clinton
George W Bush
Barack Obama
Larry Craig
Condelezza Rice
Certain special interests keep files on this kind of thing for blackmail purposes. It would be one thing, if they were open, like Barney Frank, but when they have these double lives, and pretend to be one thing, and are secretly something else, we get politics by blackmail.

Dr. Robb Kvasnak has, in this forum, opened up another important issue.
For those of us that have given up on most organized religions, it is difficult to understand how members of the GLBT community (and others) manage to remain faithful to churches whose leadership is actively hostile to them. On one hand I can have nothing but admiration for those who work for change within their own churches.
On the other hand I cannot imagine how painful it must be to suffer condemnation from leaders such as the Pope. Catholic leadership has recently undercut progressive changes by liberal congregations, such as a Gay Pride celebration in a Minneapolis Catholic congregation.
My question for Dr. Kvasnak is “What do you hope for, why do you stay, and how do you plan to make the changes your church so desperately needs? “

Religion is a matter of choice. Sexual orientation is not. We do not choose whom we love.
Because one cannot choose whom to love, but can choose one’s religion, nobody may be allowed to use their religious choice to control someone else’s being. Religious rights must always take a back seat to rights of being.
And since when do we allow people’s rights to be voted on? Do I get to vote on whether or not a black person gets to vote because of my religion?
