I just wanted to join the outcry against Katz. Sorry to disappoint Katz, but I am a lesbian who has only slept with one woman and have never bed-hopped with my friends, lesbian, straight or otherwise. I am in a long-term committed relationship of five years, going strong. I don't consider myself to be living a "gay lifestyle", I am just living. I do not recruit people to be gay. I do not have an "agenda", though I would prefer to exercise what I believe is my God-given right to marry my partner and celebrate my life and commitment to her and be on an equal scale with all my wonderful straight friends. I have been to gay bars and have found them safe places to be with people who are like me and did not engage in trolling, but instead socialized with friends. I have been to Pride Parades. They are fun and celebratory and though sometimes over the top, considering what a job it is to come out in this homophobic society, it is understandable that long-repressed people who have come out of the closet will feel a little wild with the freedom and need to celebrate. I remember coming out to friends in a diversity class in college and can readily remember that freedom. I had a hard time coming out to my family and had such a hard time with it that I "relapsed" temporarily and believed all that fundamentalist Christian garbage for less than six months while I tried to not be "gay". I was miserable. So I decided to be myself. I am a Christian, but I use my brain. Doesn't anyone see the hypocrisy? When did one man and one woman become the family? Half the OT is full of men with multiple wives and no one had a problem. And concubines were technically not married, they were glorified mistresses. So if David was a man after God's own heart and Solomon was blessed by God with wisdom, why didn't God say anything about the plethera of wives and concubines they had? BECAUSE IT IS CULTURAL! And today our culture has gay people who are happy, committed and aren't hurting anyone and everyone has to have a COW about it. Get over it and let culture take its course.

Katz says: “I have nothing against gays, unless they are promoting promiscious behavior, which they are. Gay men are constantly on the troll, and lesbians are constantly bed hopping with their friends. This is the norm of that reality. This is bad for society, as a whole. I am not a bigot, just an observer who is not brainwashed. I call ‘em as I see ‘em. If the shoe fits, wear it, sort of thing.
How many gay parades or gay bars have you visited? For me, it’s not good for society to promote hedonism and materialism, over any other thing."

My comment to Katz:
Hedonism:
1. Pursuit of or devotion to pleasure, especially to the pleasures of the senses.
2. Philosophy The ethical doctrine holding that only what is pleasant or has pleasant consequences is intrinsically good.
3. Psychology The doctrine holding that behavior is motivated by the desire for pleasure and the avoidance of pain.

Materialism:
1. preoccupation with or emphasis on material objects, comforts, and considerations, with a disinterest in or rejection of spiritual, intellectual, or cultural values.
2. the philosophical theory that regards matter and its motions as constituting the universe, and all phenomena, including those of mind, as due to material agencies.

I don't know where to start with Katz who seems to find those homosexuals (gays and lesbians) more promiscuous than heterosexuals (straight beings). Has Katz ever been to a straight bar where sex is not on anyone's mind? And why is Katz in a gay bar? Research perhaps? Why would Katz frequent a gay bar and gay parade where "hedonism and materialism" are expressed? It's not for pleasure so Katz is either a glutton for punishment or has some underlying tendencies yet to be expressed much like Larry Craig and Ted Haggard before they were caught. I am to assume then, due to the objective nature Katz has towards promiscuous materialists, and hedonists, that Katz also stays out of Straight Bars, Shopping Malls, Sports Venues, Concerts, Movie Theaters, Theme Parks, Televsion, Starbucks, and every other place that supports and feeds off of one if not all three of those characteristics.

Bigot:
1. a person who is utterly intolerant of any differing creed, belief, or opinion.
2. One who is strongly partial to one's own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.
3. Katz

What planet is Katz on where lesbians bed hop with friends MORE SO than straight friends sleep around with each other or couples swing? Or that gay men troll more than straight men? Is Katz saying that straight men do not sleep around or cruise bars or pay for prostitutes? To state that a certain group engages in sexual activity MORE than another group is absurd.

The norm of reality is that we live in a materialistic society. Materialism is EVERYWHERE and it has nothing to do with gay people. The norm of reality is that we live in a society that LOVES pleasure over pain. A society that prefers to live in pleasure over pain. If it does not please us we won't do it. We all have materialistic and hedonistic qualities in us to one degree or another, that is not something only gay people experience.

I think what is bad for society is the constant need our country has in having a superior race or class of people and not having equality across the board. What IS bad for society is the lack of respect for human life, freedom and choice which started when one class of man deemed themselves better than the natives of this country we inhabit today. One class of humans killed Native Americans because they were different, they were savage. White men killed Black men. They were less than, a sub class - not human, not worthy of the same rights. How about the Japanese Americans? These different races were less than, a sub class - not human, not worthy of the same rights. Women were not worthy of the same rights. Biracial marriage was WRONG. Now Gay marriage is wrong. Our country does not know how to function in peace within itself. THAT is the norm of reality.

On a lighter note, straight people d0n't generally go into gay bars to watch for promiscuity or go to gay parades unless they WANT to. And unless you are picketing, Katz, or handing out salvation/redemption pamphlets, I question how you know so much about bed hopping lesbians and trolling gay men?

Not to mention the "art work" is horrible, terrible, awful, ugly, disgusting, revolting, poorly drawn and just really, really, really bad.
I'm sorry. I draw comics and stuff. If I drew something like that, I would not put my name to it. And I definitely would not say that I was the creator of such "art".

For all of you who have seen this comic book, there is an excellent editorial commentary by Leonard Pitts Jr. in the Miami Herald.
His commentary came up in my local newspaper way out here in Idaho (there is not enough local news to fill our paper, we publish writers from around the country as many smaller town newspapers do).
Anyway, it's a good article, if you can find it.
He takes a different spin on it. A not quite so literal, religious, or personal opinion of the comic in question.
And, yes, you're thinking "Idaho... hum. Homosexuality, Larry Craig"
I am aware it is all ironic and funny. So go ahead and laugh. I'm being serious. Laugh.
"Well, well, what do we live for? To make sport for out neighbors and laugh at them in our turn." -Mr. Bennett in the A & E Pride and Prejudice.
This is a very badly written commentary. I hope you'll forgive me for it's inferior quality. I'm in a rush to finish it. All of my thoughts do not connect, I know. Just look at it with a friendly eye.

Anyway, the main point: Read Leonard Pitts Jr.'s commentary. Miami Herald.

We now know that homosexuals and bisexuals are born that way, it is not a "lifestyle choice." If it isn't a choice it cannot be a sin. God must want it that way.

I certainly don't espouse the views in this comic book and I think Mr Rinehart is not somebody I wish to know. However, I do think this is a very clever marketing tool and there well may be quite a substantial portion of the electorate who will vote for him as a result. This quite substantial group of people doesn't read books or newspapers, they can't spell very well themselves and are quite hostile to other groups of people whom they perceive as a threat. The terse, to the point, writing style may well be better understood by them, than all of the TV commercials from other more qualified, more educated, candidates. Unfortunately, a large part of America has been dumbed down, but - those Americans still have a vote!

I live in Florida and we have a fine collection of nuts in public office here. But Brent really seems to top them all. What a disgrace! Having read his little comic book, it is hard to believe a grown man doesn't have a publication checked for spelling and grammar errors. What was he doing in English class? Worrying about homos and lesbians?

And a challenge to Brent (credit to Lewis Black): You prove to me that Zeus and Apollo don't exist and I'll use the same method to prove god doesn't exist!

Katz says: “I have nothing against gays, unless they are promoting promiscious behavior, which they are. Gay men are constantly on the troll, and lesbians are constantly bed hopping with their friends. This is the norm of that reality. This is bad for society, as a whole.”

All I can say to Katz is that bigotry is born of ignorance and Katz’s comments are most certainly ignorant and s/he has most likely never known a homosexual.

I am not a bigot, just an observer who is not brainwashed. I call 'em as I see 'em.
If the shoe fits, wear it, sort of thing.
How many gay parades or gay bars have you visited? For me, it's not good for society to promote hedonism and materialism, over any other thing.

As is nearly always the case, Leonard Pitts assessment of Rinehart's folly hits it right on. My fervent prayer is that more intelligent thinkers like Mr. Pitts will surface.

Rinehart's comic discourse is so horrendously ridiculous as to be scarcely believable.

Hey Robb.

Your my man.
The positions of conservative Christians is enough to make me an atheist. Glad to hear you are Catholic, Gay and in a stable relationship with another man. Hang in there. you are one of my heroes. Burt Reinehart isn't.

This ludicrous comic would be a delightful diversion if it were not illustrative of a society that seems to become increasingly more stupid and actually delighting in its own stupidity. As with the election of "shrub" in 2000 and AGAIN! in 2004, I don't blame Bush and his chicken hawk cabal as much as I blame my fellow citizens of the U.S., whose A.D.D. seems to obviate any introspection or contemplation of anything beyond immediate self-gratification.
Any person with half a portion of wits would understand that gays are born gay and do not choose to be a person that is so reviled by such a large segment of society as to make their lives considerably more difficult than they would be otherwise. In times past, consider what being gay meant to people who had to face almost universal abhorrence! Yeah, let's choose to live a life of hidden, hellish desperation! Of course there are gays that behave stupidly and inappropriately, but nobody has a corner on that market.
Not to put too nihilistic a point on this, I predict Brent will be re-elected handily. I hope to be proven wrong.

Katz says: "I have nothing against gays, unless they are promoting promiscious behavior, which they are. Gay men are constantly on the troll, and lesbians are constantly bed hopping with their friends. This is the norm of that reality. This is bad for society, as a whole."

All I can say to Katz is that bigotry is born of ignorance and Katz's comments are most certainly ignorant and s/he has most likely never known a homosexual.

Mods and Admin

Some gays are very 'in one's face' over it, and it can be a conversation killer, and unless anyone is actually looking for a partner/shag, is it really relevant? It could be noted by gays that heterosexuals tend not to need or want to know what anyones orientation is, there are a lot of more interesting topics to discuss.
After all financiers discuss things other than money, lawyers things other than law, they could be hetero or gay, that could be determined later,if necessary, not as a first off.

I have friends some of whom are hetero and some who are gay, but I'm not mad keen on many of them making a pass at me

That "hate the sin but love the sinner" idea is a lot of crap. A person's sexual orientation is part of who they are, so if you hate homosexuality, then you hate the homosexual, too and "leaving the homosexual lifestyle" is also a load of bunk. There is NO credible evidence to show that someone's sexual orientation can be changed. As for the comic book, it is just another example of what happens to adults when they don't get themselves an education - the man is a bigot.

Sexual orientation is partly biological, but bisexual people have a choice.
The majority of people are bisexual, that is why Rome promoted mentor/youth relationships, as the norm.

How far society is willing to tolerate and promote homosexual behavior corresponds to how hedonistic it will become. The family is the building block of society, without which the society become increasingly alienated and isolated. It is my opinion that the gay agenda promotes promiscious behavior. It attempts to normalize these quickie relationships of serial monogamy, which then translates into any type of relationship.

The corporate TV brainwashers have sold our children on the normalization of promiscious behaviors, and the toleration of the same, under the guise of toleration of gay orientation. TV shows like "Sex in the City" show women freely having sexual relations with strangers and avoiding marriage, which is a safe haven to raise children. Almost all the television programming is designed to brainwash young girls that they should act like promisicous men. This will destroy the family, and already the statistics on successful marriage are low, as too many people are divorcing, because they are looking for a better sexual partner, and unrealistic about expectations of marriage, as a "romantic" notion, which is an unstable concept.

Now, you want to normalize gay sex, as well?
We will all end up victims of government, as our family unit and support is being destroyed, right out from under us.

I'm pretty sure that trolls are creatures which live under bridges, occasionally leaping out to feast on unwary passers by.
