David Carr On A Life Well Spent
DAVID Carr explains to NY Times readers the purpose of crack ‘n’ tell autobiographies:
Junkies and drunks frequently end up putting a megaphone to their own pratfalls in the form of memoir because they need to believe that all of the time they spent with their lips wrapped around glass, whether is was a bottle of vodka or a crack pipe, actually meant something. That impulse suggests that I don’t regret the past — it brought me here to this nice, happy place — but I’d also like to squeeze something more from it. And so I have.
People take drugs because they -get this - the drugs can make you feel good…

If drugs were so crap why would millions of people wish to take them every day?
Drugs are good and fun! That’s we do them ….. but moderation in all things …….
We wouldn’t have had Alice in Wonderland or the beautiful works of Byron, Keats n Shelley!
Where’s my fucking laudnum pipe gone …… I know I put it down somewhere …..

Indeed so.
Of course the only ones who get to write the memoirs are the ones who survive…
