Man Accsued Of Farming While Black

leicester-farmer-black Man Accsued Of Farming While BlackZIMBABWEAN David Mwanaka rents a field off Mountsorrel Lane, in Rothley, Leicestershire.

In the course of a week, neighbours have called the police on him on three occasions. His office: Farming While Black.

The 42-year-old, thought to be one of only two black farmers in Britain, was questioned by police officers for over 30 minutes on Saturday following a call reporting a suspected theft.

Says he:

“I was just picking the maize when I went to the edge of the field and saw three or four police cars and some officers walking towards me. They asked me what I was doing and I told them I was cropping my maize.”

Don’t you get smart with us, sonny…

“It happened on Saturday, then on Monday, then again Wednesday. It was the same story – ‘Who owns the land? What are you doing here?’.”

Anorak thinks it easier to tell the police what they want to hear. Say:

  • “I’m looking for your chief, The Green Giant, I want to thank him for letting me live in your wonderful country, sah”
  • “Thank f*** you’re ‘ere. I was kidnapped in Sarf London and driven her by a gang of racist white yoofs”
  • “I am stealing maize to pay for my crack habit”

All more believable to some helmet-encased ears than:

“I had to explain again that I rent the land. They did the police checks again – it was the same process – and then they left. They were very nice and it was not a problem.”

He goes on:

“I told the police if it happened again they should know it’s me by now and not bother, but I’m just waiting for it to happen. Maybe it’s because people have never seen a black man. I honestly don’t blame anyone. They are probably just not used to seeing black people working in the fields here… It is just ignorance. The police should realise, but they have all been nice to me.”

Maybe if he grew cotton instead, people wold think he looked more in place…

    How naughty of you!
Its kind of “funny” its happening in rothley init?

  3. 3 chenier Says:

Well, Rothley certainly seems to have plenty of police officers to spare, just as Rothley seems to have plenty of people who are convinced that a black guy must obviously be stealing something.

Just as well the poor b*stard isn’t swarthy…

  4. 4 jo Says:

Is there a high rate of unemployment in rothley?may be the cops were just looking for work?….since they are not looking for one of their bristish citizen….may be they suspect the black farmer of an unspeakable deed? err….

  5. 5 chenier Says:

Let’s not be too hasty here, Jo.

After all, Jane Tanner hasn’t had a chance to look at his photo-fit yet…

  6. 6 David Says:

Not many black people work the fields here in Wisconsin, it’s mostly Mexicans.

I wonder how swarthy JT is going to find him jajajajaja

  11. 11 Cheryl Says:

Neighbours certainly seemed to have a problem with a Black living amongst them! Rather smells like harrassment taking place - by both the neighbours and police. Surely the police would have made note in their records after the first call was investigated he had a legitiment reason for being in the field.

David, I’ve seen Blacks, Hispanic and Mexicans working the fields, they are willing to work for ’slave wages’ to support their families. Many Whites today, especially the younger ones, seem to have a real problem with getting their hands dirty and doing an honest days hard labour. After all that is what welfare checks are about - sit on your arse and let someone else do the work!

  12. 12 David Says:

Hi Cheryl…. I’ve no doubt you have seen them.
You just dont around here. In fact there’s a large group of hispanic people at work in the fields out behind my house at the moment
I also have a problem with manual labour so I went to school and got into science, good for the brain and easy on the back ! :)
Thank heavens for my (almost) free British education, things have changed in that regard I hear.
