AUSTRALIAN tourist Britt Lapthorne is murdered in Croatia. The mainstream media ignore her or abused her.
That is until Tracee Hutchison, a columnist for The Age (Melbourne), began to understand and make sense of Britt’s life and death.
Having called Britt Lapthorne “sunny-natured, seasoned traveller”, sunny antgured and seasoned Tracee begins to recognise the moral of the tale:
Every time I see a photo of an always-smiling Britt Lapthorne — alone or with a group of also-travelling new-found friends — I see myself. Every time I see her parents struggling to cope with the excruciating reality of their situation I see my own parents. Every time I see her shell-shocked brother I see mine. And every time I see her devastated boyfriend having to defend her honour I see my own boyfriend of that time.
Me, myself and I – the columnists mantra…

Britt’s father is not 100% certain that the body found is that of his daughter. Latest news.

DNA test is confirmed. The problem is now how the poor girl went.
Since this is going to be a murder investigation, I’m not going to say too much.
All I’ll say is that the local Croatian community has been rather quiet.
My condolences to the family.
