The congestion charge only work if you use the money from it to subsidise public transport. Boris doesn't like subsidising public transport.

Take away the subsidised public transport, cut back on all but the most popular bus routes, and people will have to use their cars.

Goodbye London, hello gridlock...

Boris hasn't said he will scrap the congestion charge. His only complaint about the transport system is the bendy bus which is an abomination in the eyes of the lord. They are so long that I had to crank the old BMW up to 80 to get past one the other day. Now that's dangerous

Coolandcalm

Which bit of London do you spend time in?

Here in the City we are most definitely not gridlocked, which is a great improvement on the way things used to be.

And you can't say that is because it is a quiet backwater; a quarter of a million people travel into the City to work each day...

chenier.... I spend a lot of time in London, usually in cabs and usually in gridlock unless its 3am. But then every major city in the world has a traffic problem. Many many years ago I used to drive in central London but now I don't. Just grit my teeth and pay the cab charges.

M and A

This is true, mind you we can do gridlock out here in the Essex sticks, a pile up on the A13 and its at least 4 hours, and that isn’t in the rush hour…

---------------------------------------------------

Indeed, but then you didn't have someone like Ken playing hardball.

I can remember what it used to be like before congestion charging, and the mere thought of going back to it is distinctly unpleasant.

Of course, as far as Gordie's concerned, Bowser really screwing up London is a silver lining to the clouds...

On the Andy Marr programme I think it was alleged Bojo said
'I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy'
So on education he can now say-
I'd rather put my kids in private school than have them late 'n play the fool.

I live on a main Essex road (A127) the furthest end from London and its gridlocked all day every day... London is no worse or better.

I can look down a line of cars and KNOW which one will let me out of the driveway.
I have no chance with the young female drivers, old men in flat caps or buses.
Boyracers and youngish men in suits will usually let me as will lorrydrivers. Middle aged men and women? depends on the expression on their faces!

However, I like living on the main road (22 years) ..... no children playing football outside and no problems with neighbours because I don't know any of them!

IMO it shows Boris DOES know London and that he also knows that most of the schools have been wrecked by the dreaded 'policy'.

Not in his childrens educational liftime will that be turned around so good luck to him. Why should his children suffer to make a point??

Good old Ken managed to get round it by keeping his kids existence secret so we don't know about them or their schooling!
Hmmmmmmmmmm
