Respect is earned., it is not a right. I do not have to respect Tom Cruise. Does he have value as a human being? Of course. However, I do not have to respect anyone who is so obviously immersed in a crazy cult. I have every right to question his sanity.

Please don’t take my comments as a personal attack. You offered your opinions and I responded with mine. I just found that yours were the only comments that inspired me to comment.

The right to speak freely does not come with a side order of the right to be taken seriously. Yes, he has a right to speak his mind about his beliefs and the rest of us have the right to say he is absolutely bonkers. There is no prosecution in that.

I am a born again Christian, but although Cruise is self-righteous in his attitude, I admire the fact that he genuinely wants to make the world a better place and he is very disciplined about actively making that happen. Yes, you could say that Extremist Terrorists are equally disciplined and passionate about making the world a better place, but he is obviously challenging himself and others to help those in need in tangible ways.

Rather than pointing the finger, laughing and forwarding this video, maybe we should challenge ourselves to see what we can do for our ‘Circle of Influence’ (to quote Stephen Covey from ‘7 habits of Highly Effective People’ )

At the end of the day salvation/enlightenment can’t be based on being a do-gooder or those who are poor and totally paralysed from birth couldn’t be ’saved’ or couldn’t earn as many ’spiritual brownie points.’ I believe salvation is about a beginning a personal relationship with God, who can so extravagantly fill us with Love that we want to share it generously (and not out of guilt/obligation) it with our Circle of Influence and beyond.
