Charlize Theron Is Lost In Budapest
SAYS Charlize Theron, the South African actress: “We went to Turkey. When we got over there, we rented a car and we drove all the way to Budapest. By the time we got to Budapest it was like the Cannes Film Festival, I’d never seen anything like it.”
Miss Theron had actually turned up in the midst of the Istanbul International Film Festival.
Budapest is in hungry. Istanbul is not.
Miss Theron was being interviewed to promote In The Valley Of Elah. in it, she plays a detective who helps search for a US soldier missing after returning from Iraq.
Given her grasp of geography, the odds of her finding the soldier without a script are slim, even by Hollywood standards…

It’s not “hungry”; It’s “Hungary”.
Note the spelling and the capital letter.

sometimes when I am hungry I eat turkey - but it really is a shame about Charlie. She left her native South Africa for the US to gain fame and fortune in Hollywood (OK, so, originally she wanted to be a hoofer in New York, but her knees weren’t up to the abuse, and Hollywood was plan B). She got herself an Oscar on her first nomination, so her hard work paid off. In the process she had to lose her South African accent - which she did quite convincingly - and decided to allow the Americans to butcher the pronunciation of her last name, which is originally French and you know what the Americans do with words from that part of the world …
but it comes as a complete shock to me that she also dropped all sense of Geography - just to blend in with the Hollywood crowd.
