Jimi Hendrix’s Death Remembered In Cumberland Hotel Puke Suite (Photos)

JIMI Hendrix died 40 years ago tomorrow, so what better way to mark his premature passing in room 507 at the Samargkand Hotel on September 18th 1970 than by sticking a waxy statue of the man in a hotel room at London’s Cumberland Hotel and having housekeeper Miroslava Ryczko dust it?

EMBARGOED TO 0001 FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 17. Receptionist Martina Bukovanova with a wax figure of Jimi Hendrix, on loan courtesy of Madame Tussauds, on show in a suite at the Cumberland hotel in central London to mark the 40th anniversary of his death on 18th September 2010.

Says the press release of the – get this – Hendrix Suite:

The suite is designed to inspire its visitors from the instant they enter; to capture the ethos of Hendrix and ultimately be a sanctuary where Hendrix himself would have enjoyed spending time.

They must be kicking themselves over at the Samarkand, if they not choking on their own puke…

Help For Heroes Video: The Wanted Can’t Fail

AN Interview with The Wanted at the help For Heroes Concert.

It’s all a bit gauche – “We are proper international stars ” (Hello, Wales!) and the cause is a “bit relevant” to two of the band”.

But The Wanted can do little wrong:

The Wanted are managed by Global, owners of the radio stations Heart, Galaxy, 95.8 Capital FM, LBC, Classic FM, Gold and Xfm. The charts are shaped by airplay as well as sales. And The Wanted have been on the radio lots.

Here they are (swoon):

Lady GaGa Uses Meat To Attract Men: Fail In Photos

LADY Gaga wears meat to the MTV Video awards and the media goes cray-zee. Is she using the meat to attract a red-blooded mate, a steak to seduce where crotch and breast meat failed?

It’s front-page news on the Sun. And inside the paper, Toni Jones, the paper’s Fashion Editor, tells readers:

“This meaty number is just another attempt at grabbing headlines”.

In which case, job done…

Video Music Awards Photos: Bieber, Gaga And West Out-Ponce Eurovision

IN Photos the MTV VMAs – that’s Video Music Awards, you, squares – rival the Eurovision song contest for precociousness, pomposity, vanity and vapidity.

Stick a Danish flag on Kanye West’s red suit and he’d get douche points (no typo) and laughed at.

Taylor Swift’s moribund retort to West’s taking her award last year would have had more meaning had she sung it in Russian and sat before a video of the Finnish border at midnight. And Justin Bieber looks like he should be hanging on a chain from Lady Gaga’s throat.

But because we like Eurovision, we like the VMAs. Here are the pictures of all your favourites, plus the tosspots you love to hate:

Liberace Who? The Vegas Museum To A Legend Closes

THE Liberace Museum, tucked into a strip mall of East Tropicana Avenue two and half miles from the Las Vegas Strip, will close on October 17th, after 31 years in business, writes Anorak’s Man in LA.

The announcement came on Friday, the week in which a performer known as Prince Poppycock moved to the America’s Got Talent finals after performing in a red-white and blue shortpants outfit that was surely a tribute to Liberace’s star-spangled hotpants, and the month in which Michael Douglas, who is set to portray the flamboyant showman in a biopic directed by Steven Soderburgh, began treatment for throat cancer.

From Tabloid Baby, Chapter 38:

“…The papers would say it last snowed in Las Vegas in 1990. Wayne and I were in town for that last storm. We’d just arrived to shoot ‘Vegas Week’ material for A Current Affair. That was when Wayne got Maureen to dress up as a showgirl and I shot a piece on the Liberace Museum that we promoted as the discovery of the little known ‘Mrs. Liberace.’ The story was true. She was his sister-in-law.”

Jeffrey Koep, chairman of the Liberace Foundation board of directors, says:

“When this started 30-some years ago, Lee was still a name. Keeping that brand alive has been very difficult. When Liberace passed away, no one really did what they did with the Presley estate. If you turn on XM Radio, you’re going to see a Sinatra station, you’ll see an Elvis station. When you look at Liberace, his music is well-played, interpreted by a real talent. But it isn’t kept alive the way Elvis or Sinatra’s is.”

Remember when Liberace was huge?

Help For Heroes Concert Photos: Prince Harry Smoulders As Robbie Williams And Gary Barlow Unite

AT the Help for Heroes concert at Twickenham, we spotted Prince Harry. And he spotted us. If looks mean anything, this one spoke of love. A brutal love in which one of us gets our face kicked in by minders. But, nonetheless, it was the look of love. We also spotted Robbie Williams, Gary Barlow, Alexandra Burke, Peter Kay, The Wanted, The Saturdays,Tom Jones, Pixie Lott. and Bruce Forsyth. We took photos of them too…

ELO’s Mike Edwards (Killed By Falling Hay) Introduces The Weirdest Pop Star Deaths

THE weirdest pop star deaths is introduced by Mike Edwards, formerly of the Electric Light Orchestra, died when a 94kg bale of hale fell on his white Transit can as he drove along the A381 in Devon.

He was indentified by photos and video of his work with the band on YouTube.

The bale of hay is believed to have been moved by a tractor. It then rolled down hill and vaulted a 15ft hedge.

Mr Edwards adds his name to these weird pop star deaths:

Video: Guns ‘n’ Roses Bottled Off Stage In Dublin – Justin Bieber Wins

GUN’S ‘n’ Roses threw a hissy fit in Dublin and walked off the stage.

They are no Justin Bieber, who was hit by a bottle while performing and carried on.

After a big break, during which lots of punters had left, the band came back on.

Which act is the most rock ‘n’ roll, readers?

Bieber!

Katy Perry Rocks The Gay Bar At New York’s Splash

KATY Perry was recently seen judging hapless singers on the X Factor. She was sat next to Simon Cowell’s lip-syncing clockwork soldier Cheryl Cole, who gets by on a combination of good looks and folksy charm.

Perry, on the other hand, can really sing and entertain. We spotted her on stage at New York’s “Splash” bar.

In Photos: Robbie Williams Back With Gary Barlow For Flintstones Reunion

ROBBIE Williams and Gary Barlow posed for our pictures at the BBC Radio 1 offices. They were in London to witness the first broadcast of the track Shame, which the reconciled artists recorded as a duet. This is the first time they collaborated in 15 years. They fell out after Williams left boyband Take That in 1995. But how time has changed them. They look old. They look really old. They look Stone Age old. It’s no longer Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow – it’s Fred Flinstone and Barney Rubble. Aydaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pete Doherty And The Libertines Serenade Amy Winehouse (In Photos)

AMY Winehouse watched Pete Doherty and the Libertines perform at the Forum in Highgate, London, last night. She stood on the balcony as the band serenaded. It was a good show – Pete looked like a slim Pauline Quirke, Carl Barat played on and Amy pulled faces and beamed with the whitest teeth. Your snapper took photos. It was a fun night.

The Libertines foursome had appeared on stage to the sound of Vera Lynn’s We’ll Meet Again. At the end of the show, Doherty chucked his harmonica into the crowd. If you caught it, you might want to wait until you’re not operating a motor vehicle or machinery before putting it near your mouth…

Mysterio has handed us proof of the contract he claims she broke.

Says Tila, that one-woman content factory:

Come on Bran, you’re a veteran in this business and should know better than to flake on a music deal!

Tower Hamlets Cancels Event Posters And Creates More Mess

TOWER Hamlets council has changed tactic in its war on fly posters by slapping its own stickers with the word “CANCELLED” across the illegal adverts.

As Dean Nicholas says:

Looks like bad news for all those intotheir funky house and dirty pop, if this poster on Old Ford Road is anything to judge by. The ‘new era of club culture’ in the East End, with “massive DJ’s/PA’s” (sic) every Friday night, has been cancelled!

But it’s not the do that’s been cancelled – it’s the poster. Tower Hamlets hates bill stickers so much it is sticking bills over the, er, bills. It’s genius. Says the legal sticker:

“This poster has been cancelled by London Borough of Tower Hamlets”

Here’s the  plan from Councillor Shahed Ali:

“This is a creative way to crack down on fly-posting. We’re showing would-be fly-posters that they’ll be wasting their money if they put up illegal advertisements in the borough. It can take up to 45 minutes to remove just one poster and often scraps of paper are left behind – but it only takes a couple [of] seconds [to] stick the ‘It’s Cancelled’ sticker on.”

Can he beat Bieber? No. Still, can Bieber do a handstand while dressed as a colander?

No way…
