Impure evil?

I am distinctly freaked out by the police's claim that Karen Mathews is 'pure evil'.

Are we to belive that the police can't tell the difference between Peter Tobin, who kidnapped, raped and murdered at least two girls, and a mother who thought she could defraud the public by pretending that her daughter was kidnapped?

Or is it just a spin on why the police were happy to dump the original investigation of the disappearance of Vicky Hamilton on the grounds that they had found her purse and concluded that she had run away?

No, I hadn't seen it, so thank you for pointing it out to me; it was agw's fine piece on Tobin which started my train of thought.

We have to try to hold the line against this, since otherwise the tabloidisation of values will do for us all...

I looked at it in sheer disbelief; I need food before tackling it!

Get your teeth in to this then:
I have written of this before. The danger in this case is the police, judiciary and the various written and broadcast media joining in a feeding frenzy where it can.
They are symbiotic and have to be together. Each organisation within the relationship is, in turn, deeply and incestuously in love or a bitter enemy.

They are the other British Royale (or Royal) family: totally dysfunctional and completely unable to live separately.

The judge pronounced Peter Tobin to be "a truly evil man" after he was found guilty of his second rape and murder and is publicly known to be in the frame for at least 12 similar murders.

Here a police officer from West Yorkshire Police (which has problems of a very different sort if you examine the constantly topped up thread
    Sir Norman
and which far outstrips the Matthews case in time on here), a senior policeman left the court and, while struggling for a sound-bite, branded Karen Matthews as "evil."

He had no more right to do that than brand Kevin Keegan a King or -agw a tosser. Both possibly accurate descriptions but not from a policeman who has just conducted a case which was solved...and let's get this absolutely clear... was solved not by detective skills but by a tip-off and the the sharp hearing of a police officer...other searching officers has already looked and moved on! No Brownie points there then?

Karen Matthews may well be evil but not in a Shipman, Surcliffe, Brady, Woods, Huntley or Tobin sense.

I suspect that the police are trying desperately to find some sort of explanation for the unfortunate fact that they were successfully deceived over quite a lengthy period of time by someone who is thick as two short planks.

Spinning her as an evil genius is farcical, but it's about their only alternative to admitting that their investigation resembled the aforesaid two short planks...

Just a brief comparison between Karen Matthews and Baby P's mother should teach the meaning of the word, shouldn't it?

perhaps its the new 'e', once it was a food additive, now its the new four letter word

Karen Matthews was not evil at all. She has what: a low IQ; obviously not educated; lived in public housing; has to have had self low-esteem to have slept with many different men - maybe thinking they'd love her - and had babies by them. A poor ignorant uneducated person. Who went to her aid after the first baby or so? Certainly not her family until after she made the news and then excuses by them to cover their own non-caring ways re their daughter. Did Social Services counsel her when she went on state aid and started having babies about birth control and offer it free to her? She read and heard about all the millions donated to the McCanns to find their daughter so why not have one of hers disappear and collect money. If she had meant true harm to come to her daughter she would not have been alive when found, if ever. I remember the remark she made to the papers when her daughter was being searched for in one interview saying along the lines she felt someone close to the family had the daughter. That is as close as she came to telling the truth about where her daughter was and no one picked up on it!

    Hi all,

It's the welfare system that is evil. It's the system in this country that needs looking at completely for this country to become Great again. It's the system that is letting people down on all sides, both those that need it and those that pay for it. If you ask me it's the practically the biggest cause of crime in this country. It's going to take many many years to sort it out but I also have a horrible suspicion it's too late..

Depends what sort of crime you have in mind, Lone.

    Hi Lone,

hope everyone is in rude kicking health in your roost?

I think the Welfare state has bit itself on the bum too, it was bad that people went with out doctors when needed, but I think there has to be a return to independence, but without the dire poverty.

Perhaps limit 'welfare' to 2 children per couple ,and one per single parent that puts the onus on the mother to be in a stable relationship before producing yet another (as in KM and others where 6 or 7 seem to be the norm)

Chronic ill health obviously needs support, but I feel there are too many sex change ops and that sort of procedure on the NHS.

Education also limited to 2 children,, after that the parents pay (twins/ multiple births reviewed as necessary)

Everyone has compulsory dental check up and treatment annually, the appt obviously suited to fit in, but must be annually.

Those unable to work supported properly and with dignity, those unwilling kicked out

Rents for council housing in accordance with the number of adults (say 21 +)
