I hate guns, violent films full of shooting and shooting games. In fact, I hate anything to do with guns and I always have (since I can remember, anyway).
I wouldn't even let my son have toy guns and, when I eventually had to give in because other people bought them as presents, I went mad if he pointed one at me. I didn't care that they were toys - it's what they represent, which is the intent to kill someone.
On Saturday, we watched a crappy animated film called Rango. It's from last year, was advertised as "This year's best family film" and given a PG rating. The big warning at the beginning was that it contained "Rude humour, language, action and smoking". No mention of constant violence and shooting, which goes way further than just 'action'.
It seems the censors are more bothered about kids seeing some pretend creatures smoking than they are about them seeing those pretend creatures trying to shoot the feck out of each other with huge guns!
Just thought I'd share that with you.

I found this link on Michael Moore's facebook page, Karen....it shows how guns are big business & Americans are unlikely to give them up even after another massacre....in fact it is more likely that there will be even more guns sold in response. A high price for freedom in my opinion.

I agree with Anorakaren. Why do children's movies have so much gun violence? Enough!
Percy: I read the other day that guns sales DID go up in the States.....sad, so sad. We never learn.

Percy - you are correct - figures which I heard in the States last week indicated that this year, 280,000 guns have been sold (and those are the legal ones) and that sales have INCREASED in the wake of the Newtown massacre with paranoid sick people rushing to buy semi-automatic weapons before they are banned by Congress...

Looks like the gun lobby in the U.S. have started taking pot shots at Piers Morgan for his outspoken views on the second amendment, right to bear arms, by starting a petition to have him deported. If it gets any worse Piers might have to consider carrying a firearm himself or hiring an armed bodyguard like the rest of his celebrity clients.

p.s. wonder which petition I should sign?..it's a hard choice.. the heavy price of freedom.Posted 4 months ago # -
p.s. Just a thought but maybe Piers Morgan should leave the serious anti-gun talk to American's like Michael Moore & stick to what he does best..i.e. interviewing celebrities on t.v....it's safer for starters..& is after all what shot him to fame in the States in the first place.
p.p.s. Hollywood & it's stars are probably one of the greatest adverts for American's to carry guns ..movie & t.v. media has more than played its part ...maybe Piers should discuss the problem from a celebrity point of view to make his point & be taken more seriously....an interview with a Topgun like Tom Cruise maybe?Posted 4 months ago # -
Percy, you are right in a way about Piers Morgan.....it would be safer if he just did interviews with celebrities. I have heard something about a bunch of nitwits in the States who would like to see him "deported" , of all things, for his views, as if he doesn't have a right to to speak his mind. If they these rednecks do succeed in "deporting" him, then I would gladly have him do a national show in Canada. I admire his courage for taking a stand against guns and the American "right" to " bear arms."

I agree with you Torri - I am not a great fan of Piers Morgan, but admire his courage in speaking out on what is a very contentious but extremely serious issue and asking questions which few American correspondents seem willing to bring to the fore. They can't deport him for speaking his mind - or what remains of the Land of the Free...? Or these days are you only free if you agree with the loudmouth morons with their own self-interest at heart and powerful mates in the Senate...?
