The forum's a bit quiet, which begs the old question of do we need it if the comments section on the main site is changing?

I prefer to post on the forum rather than comments so I give it a "like". It would be nice though if a revamp brought back the likes of Druncan & june ...wonder what would tempt them back...a prize of a bottle of wine for the best comments maybe?...that would certainly interest me.

I think we should take Duncan out and give him a night out! I am on my way, Duncan, you better wait til I get there! I am bringing you several bottles of cheap wine, that was given to me at Xmas. I am regifting to you, as you know I hate wine.

Some thoughts on The Forum
1. needs a new name - something that gives a hint of what it’s about and tempts visitors to Anorak’s front page to investigate it.
As a name, The Forum is dull and conveys little information. Suggest changing it to something like - Readers Corner, Anorak Backchat, Anorak Point’s of View or whatever ?
2. needs to be promoted from the Front Page. Currently, if you don’t know it exists you are unlikely to find it. Suggest replacing the text link to the Forum embedded in amongst a lot of other headings with a large, colourful logo/badge displayed prominently on the side bar of the front page that when clicked takes one to the Forum
3. Forum itself needs an extreme makeover. While main site has gone through design changes over the years the Forum has remained largely unchanged. It looks very dated now - an awkward add-on to the main site
Suggest replacing the forum style software currently used for Backlash with a template that gives Backlash an appearance consistent with that of the front page, i.e., a heading, and the first sentence or two of the post to give readers an idea of what the post is about and entices them to click on the blurb to read the full story
Or, replace the current Backlash look with one that resembles facebook or Google+. The post starting a new thread being akin to a status update, with readers offered the opportunity to post a comment or to ‘like’ another reader’s post or comment and with the most recent comment being visible underneath each post (the earlier comments becoming visible when the comment thread is expanded) and readers comments accompanied by a gravator of their choosing?
