Just thought we should throw out a few tentative dates for the Challenge next year. As we are a bit spread out over the map, this may take some sorting. I am open for the end of June or thereabouts. Anyone else?
Aside to Randie: Will we take the same Air Canada flight or British Airways or whatever is cheapest, or should we be like the Royal Family and travel separately? In case one of us crashes, the other will still be available?

lol, Dolly if I can make it over there I think we should fly together. Me, I like Air Canada - the cabin crew don't seem (quite) as stroppy as those with BA, I've never measured it but I'm sure there's more leg room between your seat and the one in front of you and my luggage (usually at least 2 big suitcases stuffed to the gills with shoes) has always arrived with me when I've gone AC.

If we fly together, maybe we can sit together too, that'd be a lot of fun :)

I should let you know that I have a tendency to drink a little bit on the flight over cos my thinking is that now they don't allow smoking on planes, its a good idea to have a few glasses of wine with the objective of falling asleep for a few hours. I do this out of consideration for my fellow passengers - if I'm sleeping, I'm (hopefully) not likely to go on a drunken rampage in a pressurised space when I'm gagging for a smoke.

I understand about the shoes, wish I had that many, I may have to do a special shopping trip just for cute sandals, etc. Love to travel with you, good plan, if you would like to drink wine, go for it. I know what it is like to crave a smoke, I finally quit, it wasn't easy. I shall bring our portfolio with me to organize last minute details for the Challenge...what airport would you like to travel from? Montreal or Toronto?, as I would have to coordinate my flight from out west.......... : ) Gawd, we could have a blast just on the flight alone....Duncan, you have no idea what you have let your self in for with Randie, June and I! Wooo hooo! Bring it on...
Bill is going to be sorry he didn't join my team...

No, no, no - clothes go in the cases too under and over (and sometimes around) the shoes. Oh yeah, and makeup, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner all go in there as well.

I can't pack sensibly and I have no idea why. Kilos of what goes in could be easily bought (and usually is cos its in prettier packages) when I get to where I'm going, but that never seems to register when I'm jamming it all in. Note to Torri: shoes in the UK and Europe are bootiful (scuse the pun), often less expensive than over here and seem to fit better too.

I think meeting everyone on here, would be an absolute riot even if we just ended up sitting in a caff eating chip butties and drinking cups of tea. Torri, if I can swing going over at the same time as it happens, I'll try to fall in with whatever dates and flight arrangements you book. How does that sound?

Boots etc do good offers on shampoo shower gel etc, I'm sure you'll find one at H'row or B'rum, we can even shop for you and meet you both somewhere...early days.

Sounds brilliant so far! This is shaping up well! I will keep what you said in mind about the shoes, only take what is needed....good advice. Oh yes, have you heard, that you can't carry certain items on the plane anymore? (the 911 thing) I believe, correct me if I am wrong, but I am not sure you can take lotion, shampoo, gel, etc. Oiy! What a bore.
PS: Hey, you guys, exactly what is a chip buttie? ( sandwich? CHIP SANDWICH! no way...you don't really eat that do you? lol!) I am a tea granny however, no problem there!
    Are pub lunchs good?

Some pub lunches are very good, some are crap

Chip butty - 3 types Torri cotton- wool type white bread, smears of marge and cold greasy chip things in ( think they were spuds once , but)

then decent white bread , quality butter, HP sauce and red hot well cooked chips, and 3 is ketchup not HP.

I think with shampoos etc, if they are bought at the airport after checking in , you can have free amounts (keep receipt) but not from home.

I think the prohibition of some personal use items applies only when they're packed in carry-on baggage. This link'll give you an idea of what applies if you're flying Air Canada and I wouldn't think that other airlines have much different rules, but I might be wrong.

    http://www.aircanada.com/en/news/trav_adv/070423.html

The rules were so stringent at one point that things like mascara, liquid foundation and that sort of stuff were prohibited too, so things have relaxed a bit.

Thanks for the link, I will try to peruse it later. Right now I have my screen open, but minimize it when the boss walks by, lol.

Mic, I'll add my two cents worth of caution to the ladies: alcohol poisoning; remember, with every drink brain cells are lost and not rejuvenated; check carefully any meds you may be taking for adverse interaction with alcohol; have a designated driver standing by; alcohol is a depressive not an enhancer; make sure you eat while you drink. Enjoy the hangover.

I'm not a teetotallor I enjoy a glass of wine or two on social occasions or company in. However, I carry the grief always with me of a sister being killed by a drunk, who was out celebrating the Xmas holiday season at the local bar. We didn't celebrate ours that year - we buried her the week before.

I don't begrudge anyone the right to drink - it is their free choice and their body and their brain!

that is tragic about the loss of your sister.

my alcohol levels are about the same as yours, no meds ok there, agw has agreed to the driving , bless him, I'm sure we shall all stop to stuff our faces.

wrry not , we shall all be back in Anorak, bright eyed ,bushy tailed when we have recovered from the parrots cage bit

Yes, we will be doing our thing in a sensible manner, there will be NO drinking and driving....and as we are all friends, we will all be watching out for one another, I'm sure. For example, if Duncan gets too carried away, we will make sure we carry him home, right, girls?
Aside to all: Just what I said before: We will need FACILITIES for the ladies...for sure!

of course, for heavens sake how can you fit vanity units good lighting wash hand basins comfy armchairs all in a bottle? thats not forgetting hairstylists on tap and everything else we may require, thank goodness for the credit card!

Yup, loos with good lighting are a must.

Tipsy or sober, and I suspect this goes for males as well as females, there are few things worse than going into a loo that has harsh flourescent lighting bouncing off walls that are painted some disgusting colour, looking in the mirror and seeing what's staring back.

Dimmer switches work for me, but a single 40 Watt Soft Rose light bulb or candles are good too.

And let it be warm, can't stand a bathroom that is cold!!! Soft music to get me in the mood for the Challenge...or not. Perhaps a little Nazareth or ACDC, some thumping good tunes to get the blood pumping, eh, Randie?

hmmmmmm...which of ACDC's tunes would make the best Team Song for the DDD lads: Dirty Deeds Dun Dirt Cheap? Highway To Hell?

Here's an afterthought: if they do go with ACDC, how about they tog themselves up like Angus Young? I bet they'd look very fetching in school boy uniforms playing air guitar on the tables :)

June, I worry more about any dirty tricks pulled by Duncan's Dirty Dozen! (That is what DDD stands for, isn't it!) What is the name of that man you ladies keep swooning over and talking about on here? I don't put anything past the DDDs! Example, pooling their money and hiring him to come for the evening and you ladies are too busy swooning instead of drinking...

AGW is going to drive you all home after a night of drinking? Presume he'll be driving with the car windows down or he is fast on the brakes.

Thank you for your kind words re the loss of Judy, June, I'll write you in private the 'happenings and feelings' that day leading into the evening when she was killed, you'll find it interesting in a way. We were very close even when small children.

The DDDD is short for Duncan's Dirty Dastardly Drunks.

    Ohh Alan Rickman, just juicy.

Think agw might get his own back and dump the lot of us on his boat in a high storm, although what the boat has done to deserve that....

Got your email Cheryl, have replied too.

AGW said he may take me sailing if I visit your lovely country, but maybe he meant sailing in Scotland???
Alan Rickman should be Googled. Too Yummy.
The sexy voice, the commanding presence. One show he was in Cheryl: He played the Sherrif(sp?) of Nottingham in Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves with Kevin Costner....or...I can't remember the name of the character in Love, Actually, but he played an older man who has an affair with a younger woman. One of many scenarios in the movie. One of my very fav movies...
Our Duncan, by the way, is probably shaking in his boots right now, as the date of the Challenge nears....

Some of his sailings seem to be a challenge, best ask Duncan as he knows the area, and he gives a laymans view.....

Duncan, do you have the layman's viewpoint? Tell us what else to see in Scotland, west side I presume?
