Chanukah Is Cancelled For The Good Of Mankind

menorah Chanukah Is Cancelled For The Good Of MankindCHANUKAH is…the festival of light. Instead on one Christmas Eve, Jews have “eight crazy nights”.

Or seven. A group of Israeli environmentalists is encouraging Jews around the world to light at least one less candle this Chanukah to help the environment.

It is encouraging to note that with religions often cast in confrontation, Israelis are met with stories that Chanukah is cancelled, just as Christmas is in the UK every year.

Indeed, with the internet’s ability to cross boundaries, it can be hoped that a religious harmony or sorts can be brought about by the international Daily Mail lamenting the cancellation of Makah Sankrant, Diwali, Teng Chieh, Eid and the burning of the Wicker Man.

As the Jerusalem Post reports, the founders of the Green Hanukkia campaign discovered that every candle that burns completely produces 15 grams of carbon dioxide. The message runs: “If an estimated one million Israeli households light for eight days…it would do significant damage to the atmosphere.”

It should stop.

In addition, care should be taken with presents. The world’s religious peoples should wonder if the electric Corby trouser press is, in the current climate, suitable, and concur that lighting the Christmas pudding might symbolise global warming but doing so when drunk is inviting trouble…
