Name A German Polar Bear

polarbear Name A German Polar BearPOLAR Bear Watch: Anorak’s look at polar bears in the news

A contest is underway to name the polar bear cub being raised by hand after being taken away from his mother at a German zoo.

The names range from Alaska to Hope or Sunshine, a spokesman for the zoo in the southern city of Nuremberg says. But there are also “traditional names” like Emma, Pauline and Frieda, he adds.

Emma P. Bear. Humanising the polar bears. Polar bears eat their young.

The zoo is holding a public competition to find a name for the female cub, who is reported to be thriving after spending a third day without her mother…Vera.

“We’re getting 15 emails with name suggestions every minute,” says city spokesman Robert Hackner.

The zoo’s keepers have dubbed the cub, thought to be female, Flocke - German for flake, as in snow flake - because of its brilliantly white and fluffy fur.

The pure white German polar bear… What would you call it?

On second thoughts, with AGW on patrol, the polar bear doesn’t stand a chance.

We could be really sycophantic and suggest that little known, but deeply meaningful, name Sorene….

Thanks for your reply….Oh, Carmen, you are such a lovely, super sweet,ever-so-nice writer and I`ll wait patiently until normal service is resumed (does that sound a bit like a British railways announcement? )

Its strange because sometimes my letters enter normally but now especially in the early part of the day I just cannot enter the site.

A bit chilly in England? About 34C here today Just been listening to some of my favourite songs and singers on You Tube……many songs going back to the 60s.
What songs? You lost that Lovin feeling by the Righteous brothers……You really Got me by the Kinks……….The Sun Ain`t gonna shine anymore by the Walker brothers and also Tom Jones singing I`ll Never Fall in Love Again.

Have A Nice weekend wherever you are !
