Madeleine McCann: Murat, Toscano And Friends

The Express looks on as Rachael Oldfield, Russell O’Brien and Fiona Payne are questioned by detectives investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
All three were dining with the McCanns on the night Madeleine went missing. The Express says O’Brien and Payne are doctors. As the express tells us every day, Gerry McCann is a cardiologist and his wife Kate a GP.
Prime Suspect
The Express then relives the night of Madeleine’s disappearance. But after 70 days of searching the facts have not altered one bit: it is night; the thee McCann children are in the holiday apartment; the parents are 100 yards away having dinner; Madeleine McCann is missing. The McCanns are doctors.
And Robert Murat is the chief suspect. The only suspect. He is at the police station the same time as the McCann’s dining party. “There was a reason why they were present in the station at the same time as Murat,” says a police source.
Was it to trigger a memory, to see if one of the dining party had seen Murat before, possibly around Madeleine or on the night of her vanishing?
We are not told. All we know is that Murat has spent another 6 hours in the company of the Portuguese police. That is 35 hours in total since Madeleine McCann went missing. So many questions. Robert Murat has not been arrested.
And there’s Antonio Toscano, the “Spanish investigator” who talks of ‘The Frenchman’ taking Madeleine.
Anorak readers have heard more of this Frenchman. Paulo Reis in Portugal tells us his name is Bernard Alapetite. He denies taking Madeleine. He denies being in Portugal since 1977. He has a sordid past.
But Alapetite has not been arrested. He has not been questioned. Toscano has not delivered up the criminal.
And Madeleine McCann is missing. Still missing…

I am from lisbon and since the first day it was noticed this missing child and her parents message to the world, it´s a evidence for everyone the efforts made by a lot of people whithin a common and principal whish, to bring home Madeleine McCann abducted at the 3rd of May this year in Algarve on hollyday`s when Gerry and Kate with a couple of friends are at the restaurante meanwhile it happened the disapearence of Maddie,but since that day I got a true hope to find this child and bring her home,where the familly wait for this kind of miracle with faith and love well known by who is touched in heart and care for missing Madeleine.
At my own will I`m feel a kind hope in faith that it became a great joy for the McCann`s be together soon as it possible, by their familly happyness on this Christmas the Good whishes to

I’ve been reading all the messages and deep down I feel little Madeleine is still alive. For a while with all the DNA talk I was starting to doubt the parents but when I thought about it .NO they are innocent. Yes they made the biggest mistake in their lives leaving the chilren on their own. They are suffering for their deed. Meanwhile there is too much media on the Mc Canns and I think they should focus on where Madeleine is. Search all the apartments , search, the boats, Search the basements, Question all the residents , Murat, his mother , friends of Mc Canns . Get every detail. Was there a blanket missing? All these questions need answered. I hope and Pray that they get the scum bags who took her. I also pray every night that who ever took her will see sense and let someone know where she is. Even leave a note somewhere where she could be found. I got lost once as a child for 10 mins and I still remember the feeling .This child needs her mum and dad and other siblings .I think she is kept in a basement or bunker of some sort.

The case of Madeleine is very painful and confusing, now who is Jane and who is this Russell a friend of the MacCann who was not present all the time when the group was dinning and when Madeleine was found missing that evening? Sure Murat or one of the friends knows the truth about the disapperance of the poor child. Please bring Madeleine home safe and alive. We beg you to do that and we beg the police in Portugal to tell us what is happening to this case. I am an African woman and I am a mother of four children and I love kids including Madeleine.

Those three friends reinterviewed in the police station, in a face-to-face with Mr. Murat, would not have been there to discuss tapas favourites or baby-bundling techniques. The tape was turning!……
Hi Hal The tape is indeed running and the clock is indeed ticking and no I’m not a friend of G. MCcanns. Very soon now we will see who the tape is running for and who the clock is ticking for. Question, would you leave your children at home in England and go to a resteraunt 100mtrs away or would you leave your children in an apartment in a foreign country on their own then go to a resteraunt 100mtrs away? Even if everyone else was doing it I know what my my answer would be………….

For all the abducted children that Madeleine represents and to all their parents I write, “one day God will have the last revenge and I would not want to be in the abductors shoes on that day”. Still, my prayers, thoughts, and tears go out to the McCann’s and to little Madeleine.

Anyone know more about the information the Chemello guy gave when he contacted a lawyer saying he had info about Madeleine? Contacting a lawyer doesn’t sound like extortion and the rest was kept in secrecy. It causes wonder whether he pointed a finger at people in high positions who have power to keep the info quiet or was it nothing? Regardless of his other activities, any information he gave regarding Madeleine would be interesting to know. A lot of leaks involving Murat, if true, so odd that there are no leaks as to what Chemello had to say about the abduction, if anything. So we are told the Chemello guy was just trying to extort but we can’t hear anything about the circumstances to decide just all kept secret. Any follow ups on Chemello that anyone has heard? Why that one particular area of the investigation is so secret. The homeless dutch man who sent e mails to alledgedly extort there were explanations such as he sent six e mails got bored played with feelings, etc. Nothing about what Chemello had to say other than we are to believe without any info he tried to extort. A circumstance always appears odd with noticed oppression.

Amazing site Liz! The British police should just take their tracker dogs to Portugal and find her themselves. Bugger who likes it or not.
And we can learn from the (majority) of the British people. Many children are missing but we ALL know about Madelein simply because people care. Wonderfull nation. I was almost reduced to tears when the UK donated something in the region of 24 million pounds for the Tsunami victims while the rest of us lagged behind. You can be very proud of your country.

Maybe this will add some food for thought … it is an article published in the Portuguese paper SOL on Wednesday of this week.
It might be worthwhile keeping in mind that, as a British Citizen, Robert Murat is not ‘one of their own’ and therefore that they have no interest in protecting him.

Murat and three McCann Friends Confronted
The police will confront three elements of the group that holidayed with Madeleine’s parents in PDL with their testimony against the lone arguido’s in this case regarding the disappearance of the little British girl.

Robert Murat and three friends of Kate and Gerry McCann will be heard by the PJ of Portimão, still this Wednesday.
The four questioned will be confronted with their original testimony, in order to glean the truth regarding what happened the night of the abduction, seeing as their original accounts contradict each other.
Between the Brits who holidayed with Madeleine’s parents in the Ocean Club and that will be heard today, from what SOL has learnt, is the couple Russell O’Brien and Jane Tanner.
Remember that in an investigation SOL revealed that Russell was the element of the group of friends that was absent the most from dinner the night Madeleine McCann disappeared.
The testimony of a worker in the resort confirms that days before Russell was also absent during the group’s dinner.
Jane Tanner is one of the key witnesses of the process that has already affirmed to have seen – in a trip made to the apartments to check that the children were okay – a man carrying a child in his lap (colo in Portuguese=lap).
The Briton affirmed having seen a man between the ages of 35 and 40, dark-skinned or tanned, wearing beige slacks, a dark coat and classical black shoes, with a girl in his lap (colo) wearing pajamas and barefoot.
With everything, this picture does not match completely the profile of Murat, in that he – contrary to the man Jane described –never had long hair in the back.
In spite of the detailed description provided by Jane, Jeremy Wilkins – another witness who found himself at the exact moment on the street where Jane says to have seen the man with the child – told the SUN that he did not see anything, adding that if there was someone there, it would have been practically impossible to not have seen anything.
Other points the police will be clarifying is the presence of Robert Murat in the OC on the night of Maddie’s disappearance.
The friends of the McCann’s confirm having seen the arguido in the resort in PDL, but officials and elements of the GNR counter this version of events.

now the UK police seem to be more involved in this, I think there will be a significant break through, I believe that an arrest is imminent and Maddie will be found alive, safe but very scared.

There are lots of inconsistencies in what one reads in the papers and on the net. Some is clearly made up by the authors of the articles, since the allegations appear no where else and are unsubstantiated.
There are also inconsistencies in witness statements which have been taken by the police, or they wouldn’t be requestionning witnesses.
Maybe the police know a lot more, but cannot /will not release the information because they believe that doing so might cause the kidnappers to injure the child. Maybe they think they can get her back alive by not rushing and arresting the suspect.
As to people taking a chance of being identified while doing a crime…. it happens all the time. CCTV is all over London capturing any number of criminal acts everyday, even though everyone knows they are being watched and even filmed.
The risk of getting caught by the person who took Madeline clearly did not outweigh the reason the person took the child. We all assume it is a pedophile ring, but it could simply be someone who is childless saw her and wanted her. It could be someone who lost a child through death, or divorce and wants to replace that child.

I am only more confused after reading the new information. Initially one lady late to dine with the McCanns said she saw a man walking with a child and didn’t realize at the time the child was Madeleine, which she later assumed. Now I read three people, that lady, another lady, and a male party of the McCann’s claim to have seen Murat around the McCann apartment. Only recently I read someone claims to have seen Murat in Madeleine’s room. If that is true you would think a lot of people seeing a lot and doing nothing at the time. From what I read early on the time the children were checked went from fifteen minutes to an hour??? and indications there were many inconsistencies for the police to sort. Also, another article which stated many people were in and out of the apartment. Now there are supposedly eye witnesses having seen Murat although all reported so far are friends of the McCanns. If the investigation has been centered around Murat all this time, especially with that many witnesses, one would think it would be easier to solve the case than what we have observed. The only circumstance that I don’t understand regarding Murat is his lack of memory about calling the Russian guy. I can understand he didn’t remember when first asked because it is hard to remember what you did on a particular night unless there is some reason to remember a specific time or date. I have read that Murat later said he still didn’t remember calling the Russian guy which seemed a little odd to me. Maybe he remembered calling the Russian guy but not which night. I don’t know. If someone asked me who I called four days ago I would have a hard time remembering which day I talked to who. Whether or not Murat and the Russian guy speak by phone often enough for him not to remember which night they spoke is another question. Also, early on there was mention of an American guy that the police wanted to question but no further information about that. I don’t know if the American was the business associate of Murat who left his computers at Murats house. I read an article that stated a business associate left computers at Murats because he decided not to be a part of Murats business and go elsewhere. The best I can tell from what I read indicates the police are trying to locate a third party, possibly a third party business associate who at least supposedly considered going into business with Murat at one time. My guess is the police can’t find that person to question because I read another article more recently which suggested Murat is still a suspect due to a third party connection. It is unclear if the friends of the McCann’s are the only people claiming to see Murat around the apartment. I read somewhere there was a man who knew Gerry McCann and talked to him outside the apartment about the same time the lady friend claimed she saw a man walking off with a child. The information I read stated the man said the lady couldn’t have seen a man walking with a child at that time because he was outside walking his child and he would have seen the man with the child. If that is true and the McCann friends are the only ones to have seen Murat I would have to suspect the McCann friends too. Assuming the police have most likely taken all of that into consideration there is not much more to know about Murat’s position unless new infomation surfaces. The current information is too confusing and there are too many inconsistencies. It is possible the inconsistencies of the McCann group were about covering up how frequently the children were being checked, etc. One would think Murat wouldn’t have come back to the scene to help find Madeliene knowing he had been seen walking with her or around the apartment. Why take a chance on being identified? Stranger things have happened so who know?

My father, a retired Detective Chief Superintendant, confirms that statistically, if a pre-pubescent girl goes missing and is not returned within 5 hours, in all likelihood she will be dead. Of course there are occasional exceptions to this rule, such as the recent case of Natascha Kampusch and as many people here have said, in the absence of her body being found there is still some reason to hope. Personally, I ruled out the possibility of Madeleine having been kidnapped, if only because no ransom was ever demanded.
If she is alive, I pray she is returned as quickly as possible. And if she is not, I pray that her suffering was minimised.

The man in the picture at http://www.briansprediction. com looks nothing like Rob Murat. The body is too squat, the face is the wrong shape and there is not enough hair on the head. This man is probably a dad whose kids are playing somewhere out of shot. Or perhaps it was Murat wearing a mask, padding round his waist and a cap on his head.
Poor sod. I real feel for him. Condemned by the gutter press. He must be going through hell. Yes, the McCanns are also going through hell. But in their case it is a hell of their own making.

Gamble said something that I think will become my motto: “When it comes to child protection, we’re all right wing.” I would be happy to shoot in the face whoever felt he/she had a right to put this beautiful child through this kind of hell, to be dragged from her bed by some spooky stranger and ….. ?
What in the world is the evidence against the parents? Other than a moderate negligence for which I believe they’ve already been punished, I see absolutely no reason to believe they had anything to do with the girls’ kidnapping. I keep hearing people spouting suspicion against them, but why?? I don’t know if Murat did anything, but at least he’s a more viable suspect than the McCanns.

Had a look the picture but it’s not of an high enough resolution to identify the man in the background (should that be grassy knoll ?) clearly and looks like quite a few people I know. Also the man doesn’t appear to be looking at the children. No way to tell as picture only show a point in time and could just as easily be turning in that direction when the picture was taken. Just my opinion though.

As you may or may not know, over the last 12 months the CEOP together with many other countries have smashed two world wide peodo rings. Do you think that with the heightened awareness of these types of crimes, coupled with the resources that theses people have, they will let this go? For Whatever reason she was taken, be it for a wealthy couple that could not have kids or for something more sinister they will be caught. The police and the technology they work with are far to clever for these vile animals. Put all that together with the unending drive and determination of some of the best police in the world, I know who’s side I would rather be on and I don’t mean the Portuguese police either! The CEOP’s increasing awareness and knowledge of who these people are is far more than you or I are led to believe. This will have a positive ending as will many other cases like this and I will raise a glass to each one that does.

She’s not dead she’s very much alive. Elements of the portuguese police are corrupt. However there are also elements which are not. These elements will see this through. After 36 hours of questioning Robert Murat is still the only suspect at this moment and for good reason. You will see significant progress very shortly which will have a British police influence about it. Madeleine is not the only one, this has been going on for some time now and there are many more children who have suffered the same as Madeleine at the hands of the same people. Is this a gut feeling??? wait and see……………….

thats the problem though isnt it, dodgy stuf…..what im trying to get at…. when its not ur relative …the only news you hear and facts u hear is from the papers… and from the news stories….. things are taken so much out of context…people saying he refused to take a lie detector test….everyone slated him and then they realise actually it was a lie detector test offered by a newspaper….nothing to do with the investigation and the reason he said no was because the portuguese police had told him not to discuss the case….
i agree if i thought he was guilty then yes fair enough i would ..for the sake of someone life…prove that….. but when u dont think that and when u cant prove it because ur family is in portugal and youa re in england, all u can do is advise people to think about what theyre saying. :o)
