Madeleine McCann: Making A Meal In Belgium
POLICE in Belgium have issued a computer image of the man seen with “MADELEINE” McCann close to the Dutch border.
No lazy eye. No cigarette. This face does not look like Robert Murat, the case’s chief suspect. Not even if you draw glasses on it. This man has been seen with a brown-haired British woman. They have both been seen with a child who looks like Madeleine McCann.
“Dramatic breakthrough in search as kidnapped girl is spotted in Belgium,” says the Express on its front page. No circumspection. Just fact.
And, of course, this is no less or more dramatic than those sightings of Madeleine in Morocco and Malta. No less dramatic than when the Dutchman’s picture with an ‘X’ marking the spot where Madeleine’s body could be found. No less dramatic than when Robert Murat was shut in a room at the police station with three of the McCanns’ dining companions.
There is no little drama in the case of Madeleine McCann. But there are no car chases. No flashing lights. No arrests. The drama is all in the telling.
And so to this couple, eating at the De Pauze restaurant. The girl is with them. Police are carrying out DNA tests on the cup used by this “Madeleine”.
A witness is watching all. She’s a child therapist. She says the child is “nervous looking”. She calls the police. When she returns, the group has “fled”.
The couple and the child get into a Volvo with Belgian number plates with the letters VUV. They are seen “speeding off”.
The Express says “several witnesses” in the case remember seeing the little girl. “They said all three were acting suspiciously.” The police are asking questions. Memories are being jogged. Did you see the poor little girl with the swarthy man? It might be Madeleine McCann. Do you remember?
But why Belgium? The Express lists the “legacy of abuse” in Belgium. It mentions Marc Dutroux, convicted of child murder and kidnap. The efit doesn’t look much like him. And he’s in jail. The Express talks of Belgium’s “paedophile rings” and a “paedophile village”.
Madeleine has been seen in Belgium before. In June she was with a Belgian couple outside Liege cathedral. But now more was heard of her. Either the people in Belgium are mistaken or not all that observant, given the so many Britons saw Madeleine in Malta.
“MADELEINE ‘SEEN’ IN BELGIUM,” says the Mirror’s front-page headline.
This is big news. And, as the Express says, Gerry and Kate McCann are “being kept informed”. And they are off to visit Huelva in Spain. Not Belgium. Not yet…

If this was Maddie, no wonder she looked nervous, this guy looks like shrek, oh sorry mums we are not allowed to say Maddy and shrek in the same sentence.
what an ugly guy, what an ugly story,
oh well 3 forums to troll, we await an update

How long does it take to get DNA results? I just don’t believe this can be Madeleine. Would anyone be so stupid to take her out in public? Wait a minute, look at the look on this guy’s face. Maybe he would. Hopefully he would.

I dont think this is Madeleine! I hope she is found soon safe, its been too long. someone somewhere knows something! TALK

this is hectic..i doubt that whoever has her would bring the most looked for girl on earth anywhere out in public much less a cafe..the term bullshit springs to mind..and also..through all of these apparent sightings of her how come everyone just reports it to the police and usually like 2-3 days later..if i saw someone who i was sure was her id call her name or something..or go over to her..scream to everyone nearby about it..do something..dont just report it..yes im told people were blocked from the arab’s yaught by security..but what about all the other sightings..if you think you see her…DO SOMETHING!

Right on Stan!!
August 3rd, 2007 at 10:35 am
surely an ugly guy like this would never be associated with such a prety angel liek Maddie, he looks like the lift doesnt go all the way up either
August 3rd, 2007 at 10:37 am
whoops typo … like maddie, I read somewhere that one of the adults were celebrating a birthday, maybe a belated one rather for Maddie,
August 3rd, 2007 at 10:37 am
I agree with Stan, if someone sees a little girl resembling Maddie, go up to the family and speak to them. If they have nothing to hide, they will gladly let you check it’s not her. They are probably as anxious for Maddie to be found. And relieved that it is not their precious little girl that is missing.

Another question. If this wasn’t Madeleine and her kidnappers, why don’t they go to the authorities to tell who they are so this can be cleared? Geez, if that was me I would immediately go to the police to tell them I was the one they are looking for so I could clear my name. Certaintly this man and woman watch the news or read the papers and they know they are the ones being searched for. Come on, Where are you??
August 3rd, 2007 at 11:04 am
I am of the sane opinion, why people who claim to see madeleine dont act on the spot, Instead they wait until the girl is gone. please don’t make Kate and Gerry nervous for nothing. If you see something suspicious just act call the girl’s name and talk to those having the girl. Involve everyone around while you are calling the police to come and do not allow them to depart. And for surei if they are genuine they will wait. We are waiting to hear of this news. Also take a photo of the girl and those around her.

I just read that the witness say she was 100% sure this was Madeleine. How can she be so sure? Did she see Madeleines eyes? I think this is a crock of crap. If she was 100% sure, she never would have let these people out of her sight.

Seems “Maddie spotting” is becoming a European sport. This is not a reality TV game of Where’s Wally, although maybe that’s not such a bad idea and I reckon the Mccann’s would go for it. Sightings like this are wishful thinking but she’s not sipping babycino in Belgium. Everyone wants an alternative to the (likely) dark truth of what became of the 4 year old girl who was abducted from her bed. They’ll be lucky if they ever find trace of her. Of course you would yell her name create havoc if you thought the child in the cafe was her - unless you like a bit of drama and want to be part of a very high profile case and hitch a free ride on the ghoul train.

why did she “leave” to go phone the authorities?? dont they have cell phones in Belgium, and the waitress told her to go and phone the police, why didnt the waitress then stop them from leaving, .. bit doff

MaryHoe, your typo led to the wrong site, I think you meant:

This is as likely to be Jamie Bulger as “Maddy”.
August 3rd, 2007 at 11:28 am
At least she’s safe. She’s in a volvo.
August 3rd, 2007 at 11:32 am
Penstar: nice one
A suburu would make feel better though
August 3rd, 2007 at 12:15 pm
now they say that the dna test will only be back next week sometime, what the hell, what use is that, she could be in timbuktoo by then, I really dont understand the logic,
August 3rd, 2007 at 12:23 pm
Liz, I don’t understand either. Why does it take so long for results to come back? Can’t they find the car? Why don’t the suspects just go to the authorities if they are innocent? They have got to know they are being looked for!!
August 3rd, 2007 at 12:31 pm
Sandra, like you said, if we were innocent then hell I would pull into the first cop shop and prove my innocence, if they are not then they must be on the run, where is the car, where is this innocent child, please whoever has her, let her go
August 3rd, 2007 at 12:52 pm
I have a solution. All owners of children aged between 1 and 48 should report to their local police station to verify that their children are not brave brave Maddie. Whoever doesn’t report to the police station is the kidnapper.
August 3rd, 2007 at 1:00 pm
You see gordon, the difference between all “owners” of children and this man and woman are, all the other owners aren’t being searched for as suspects like they are. All I am saying is if I was being searched by police, I would go and prove my innocence.
August 3rd, 2007 at 1:31 pm
That’s not such a bad idea Gordon. Like the way whole communities of men are asked to step forward when the police are looking for a serial rapist / murderer.
At least that way as well, children’s dna would be on a register of some description (Oh mind you….) ! Maybe not such a good idea after all!
August 3rd, 2007 at 1:31 pm
Surely you would only GO to the police to eliminate yourself from their enquiries if you knew that you had been reported to them as possibly having Madeleine??
I seriously doubt that the Belgium papers have ‘Maddie Spotted!!’ headlines, and even if they do - who is to say that this family read papers at all, or that they would have any clue that they were indeed the people being referred to??
‘Oh look darling … that little missing English girl was spotted in the same restaurant where we had your birthday meal!’
‘Really?? … why didn’t someone grab her before they left - If we had been there at the same time that’s what I would have done!’
If you are out for an innocent family meal, with your child, why would it even occur to you that other people might think your daughter was someone else? It’s a bizaare concept - many posters on here have small blonde 3 or 4 year old daughters… do you all expect complete strangers to phone the police whenever you leave the house because they have ’seen’ Madeleine??
August 3rd, 2007 at 1:36 pm
There must be millions of little girls who look like Maddie from a distance. This is ridiculous. The chances of finding her alive now are zilch. Face it.
August 3rd, 2007 at 2:53 pm
Didn’t the McCann’s live in Holland for a while?
August 3rd, 2007 at 3:34 pm
If there’s a glimmer of a story to tell about Madeleine then the papers are going to jump on it. It may be true that some person or persons did see a child resembling Madeleine, and being it made front page reading I hope the papers update us tomorrow and don’t just leave us in open air. Don’t get me wrong, I think the papers and one in particular keeps the story in the public eye which is good for the McCanns and all of us keen for an outcome. However, in reality I don’t hold much hope of the little girl being found. But one things for sure, Robert Murat is still the chief suspect and only time will tell if he becomes the accused.
August 3rd, 2007 at 4:12 pm
I think you could be right there Garth.
Everyone is hyper - vigilant at the moment, wanting this wee girl to be found. I think I would have said in a loud voice though “Is that Madeleine McCann”? If not as someone said previously I would have grovellingly apologised.
August 3rd, 2007 at 4:13 pm
Ben Needham was spotted pretty much everywhere for years but nothing ever came of it.
I too cannot see that any child adbuctors would take a walking talking four year old out in public.
August 3rd, 2007 at 4:37 pm
in both papers that i have read this story, the waitress said that the child ‘expert’ asked her if she thought the child was maddie after they left. but it did not highlight this fact, both papers included the waitress as a further witness. loks like front page news made out of nothing.
