I don't know why people keep making reference to the fact that Gerry and Kate McCann are doctors. What does this have to do with the case ? If you look at a lot of murderers you will see that even the most depraved killers had successful careers and were highly respected until their crimes caught up with them. I am not saying that the McCanns are guilty but them being doctors means nothing. Look at the evidence, that is all that seems to be concrete in this case, everything else is speculation and wild theories, not fact. There is NO evidence to support the theory of some opportunistic paedophile breaking in and abducting Madeline, but there is a lot of evidence piling up to support the the theory that the McCanns are somehow involved. People should stop letting the fact that the McCanns are British and supposedly being framed by the Portuguese Police, cloud there opinions. The Portuguese Police are merely doing there job and have no motive to stich up the McCanns. Look at the facts and you will come to the right conclusion.

The McCanns make much of the Portuguese secrecy laws but I wonder if this is simply convenient for them.

When they were made formal suspects we are told that between them they refused to answer 40 or so questions put to them by the police.

We are potentially talking about child homicide here a very serious crime not some sort of tax investigation.

If you watch any of those reality TV police shows you’ll notice that in the UK the police don’t say “You have the right to remain silent” when they arrest someone.
Instead these days they say something to the effect “It may harm your defence if you fail to say now anything which you later rely on in court”

I think the Portuguese police with help from the British police where necessary should insist on answers to these 40 or so questions or the inference should be taken such that it most certainly harms their defence.

If necessary they should be asked to volunteer to take polygraph tests (lie detector tests).

I also think that the group of friends who were with the McCanns when they dined out on that fateful night should be re-questioned thoroughly. Some friends they would turn out to be if they had got involved in this but none the less the possibility cannot be excluded.

The possibility of child homicide is such an abhorrent crime, like paedophilia, that the British public are not content to let any perpetrators escape justice by hiring expensive lawyers, refusing to answer questions, and hoping to get off on some legal technicality.

They were quite happy to woo the British public and seek their approval for their fund raising campaign and so they must now seek the approval of the British public regarding these allegations.

The British public demand to know the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth in this case, we owe it to Madeline.

The thing that gets me is how they simply gloss over that fact that they left two TWO year olds and one THREE year old alone in an apartment with the doors left open and went to eat at a restaurant not in an Hotel, not even in a gated complex but in the street!

And I am stunned at the number of people on this site that say we've all done it at times !?!

Have these people LOST THEIR MINDS !!!!

Anything could have happened to these children through a simple accident, to a fire, one of them being sick and choking on their own vomit, even before you consider something more extreme.

PARENTS do not leave children of this age on their own FULL STOP.

As a parent of three children myself one of whom is a three year old I know that you have to watch them at all times in case they swallow something, have an accident, or are put at risk in some other way.

Talking of the overdose theory four points occur to me.

1) Before doctors sedate or anaesthetise there is a period before this that you mustn't eat or drink anything because there is a big risk of the recipient being sick.

2) How likely is it that these children who we’re told were routinely put to bed at six O’clock (while on their holidays can you imagine) were prevented from eating any snacks for several hours beforehand?

3) Could having sedatives night after night have had a cumulative effect?

4) Is it possible that, if the medication was purchased locally, instructions written in Portuguese might have been misread or misunderstood?

There is definiely something fishy going on becasue what is the big fuss about being questioned by the Portugese police? I know if I was in the same situation I would be more than willing to answer questions for them just to clear my name. All the papers are trying to make out that they are putting the blame on to Gerry and Kate but what would be their motive for this? There must be some crucial evidence that is going againts them both.
Also I have noticed that they haven't shed a tear during the whole thing. In other similar cases the parents have been streaming through every single interview.

Could it be that they gave the children something to help them sleep that night and then, perhaps Madeline was then abduced by another person. If they had been doing this every evening maybe someone knew?

They appear to be a mixture of being genuinly distraught but also as if they are hiding something. There appears to be an element that is more than just the guilt of leaving the children alone (massive as that guilt must be). I do not belive they killed her.

Perhaps it that, in addition to leaving the children alone, by giving the children something to sleep they made it easier for someone to abduct her.

At the very begining the head of the local police said that two other children (girls) had been abducted and her case was not being treated any differently. I never hear this mentioned again. It was just before they interviewed the family who had a 12 year old son go missing, but no one mentioned the girls again. If this is true, has anyone followed this up.

I was watching the bbc news and previous videos and there's something about the way the McCanns are behaving which is odd.I hope it was not the parents who 'accidentally' killed this innocent little girl. I don't understand how parents can leave their little children alone in a rented villa while they are dining with friends in a supposedly nearby restaurant. It is bollocks.I think the parents are lying. They are trying to cover up a crime surely.I hope I am wrong because I hate to read such horrific stories. It disturbs me.If the parents are involved in any way, I must say I am disgusted by these people.

The whole thing is too stupid for words. Madeleine would be here today if she had responsible parents. If you want an adults-only holiday then why take the kids along? If you want both then take your kids to the restaurant as well. The worrying thing is the number of McCann sympathisers who say they'd also leave their kids like they did. No wonder kids are growing up as feral kids when you've got irresponsible parents. Bad parents are always looking for excuses when their kids grow up bad. Remember Mr Blair's son found drunk in Leicester Square a few years ago? His response was "my son isn't the first and he won't be the last 16 year old to get drunk..." Sadly, bad parents are the majority these days and there's no good examples being set from the top down.

Nobody is even mentioning the fact that the McCann's were in a foreign country. Like so many Brits when they go abroad, they think the foreign country should do things the same as in the UK. Like Gerry McCann's attitude, that is sheer ignorance. If anything, you'd look after your kids with more vigilance in a foreign country than you would back home. I hope the Portuguese cops throw the book at them. They've never looked like they're grieving a missing daughter from day 1.

And, what was Gerry doing at a conference in Scotland today? How is that supposed to aid the search for his "allegedly" abducted daughter? What are all his travels for? Both parents look guilty in every interview as they roll their eyes and lack direct eye contact. There's too many similarities to the way Ian Huntley behaved albeit these are professional doctors who are supposed to be pillars of society...

I feel sorry for Robert Murat. The only people who have been proved to have done something wrong by leaving their children alone are the Mccann's and they act all angry if anybody asks questions about their actions, while Murat has had his life destroyed because of their actions.

I saw pictures of their apartment and it can't be seen from the tapas bar. The unlocked door faced out onto a road and the tapas bar is down the road and through security gates. The police say there was no evidence of a break in as they left the children alone when the doors were unlocked. It isn't like a complex, as the apartments are outside the part with the bar. It says on the holiday site that they want the holiday makers to feel part of the town, so the apartments are outside of a complex.

Why do people assume she was taken from the room or killed in the room? She was perfectly able to walk out of the unlocked French doors. Every four year old I know is always running around everywhere. I have seen pictures of the apartment and the tapas bar and they are quite far from each other. You have to walk around a corner and the bar has a gate entrance. The apartment faces out onto a road. The girl could easily have walked out when looking for her parents and approached people to ask where her parents are and somebody could have taken her by saying that they would help her find her parents.

They are guilty of neglect if nothing else. Why are two well off doctors asking for money from the public anyway? I bet they haven't sold their house in England while they're sunning themselves in Portugal. Would be interesting to see a run down of the expenses. They might be doctor's, but some of Gerry's family look well rough and they're running the site.

The most obvious explanation about Madeleine's disappearance is that she was never in the room that evening. Most likely she was gone before they went out that evening and the whole story about going back to check on the kids is a ruse for something bad that happened earlier in the day. Where is there any published evidence that Madeleine was actually in the room that night? The only people saying she was there are the parents...

Why don't they let the twins talk? There are people who are specified to communicate with such young children. They might tell a clue which we are hoping for.

In most cases like this, the nearest and dearest are responsible for children's murder - imagine the scenario; parents out on the town, child visted occasionally but is fractious and troublesome. Father files into a drunken rage and - the deed is done. But he's not too drunk to hide the body, perhaps with the compliance of a weak wife...

Time will tell!

That's a thought, wouldn't you have grabbed your two other kids for fear that someone might still be lurking nearby before running off to the other side of the complex ? and I am still not convinced they didn't have something to "make them sleep" because somewhere else I read that the twins were asleep all the way through the screaming and yelling and rushing about, and Gerry "roaring like a bull" and that the police carried them out still "asleep" like a couple of sacks of flour.....hmmmmm

Also, the friend of theirs, another Doctor who was accused of having something to do with it because he left the cafe about the same time it is ajudged that Madeleine went missing, maintains that he was going to see to his daughter who was vomiting !! ferchrissakes.....he was out drinking and eating while his daughter was VOMITING ????? and if she had choked on her own vomit then what ?? ...not a good look.

Would the room not have a phone to call for help? If one of my children were missing, in the midst of my hysterics I doubt I would walk back to the restaurant and announce " Maddy's missing" and leave 2 toddlers alone in bed. My first instinct would be to call for help either by phone or vocally, I would also ask for assistance from anyone that was around. I agree things just don't add up. I was wondering if she was given something to make her sleep as well as the twins, most parents would agree that children that are so young are very unpredicable with their sleeping habits, especially when they are put to bed so early. If indeed she was given something to make her sleep and was accidently overdosed, this would explain why the cadaver dogs detected the scent of a body that had been there for 2 or more hours.
