Recycling Madeleine McCann In The Express

david-beckham.jpgTHE Express stands for recycling. And thanks to limited writing and Madeleine McCann’s continuing disappearance, the paper’s readers have felt no interruption to their routine.

This is journalism with a conscience.

This is the Express’s front-page “MADELEINE”. And today that word tops the news: “MUM’S FURY AT ‘YOU KILLED HER’ SLUR.”

Mum is Kate McCann, known to thousands of Express readers as “anguished” Kate McCann. And she is furious that a TV reporter has had the temerity to suggest that she might have had a hand in her daughter’s disappearance.

She is “horrified and deeply upset” that Sandra Felgueiras, “one of Portugal’s top presenters, a kind of swarthier and blonder Anthea Turner, “intimated” that Kate and her husband Gerry could have killed their child.

The Express says the McCanns are seeking a tape of Felguerias’s broadcast. Given that you can get most things on YouTube, this search should be simple.

Although the McCanns may be disappointed with what they find, or pleased. “As Felgueiras says: “I never said that and I never insinuated anything like that.”

She interviewed the McCanns two weeks back and asked them if those blood samples found in their holiday apartment could have come from Madeleine. Had she had an accident that made her bleed? She says the McCanns did not answer the question.

“If anything, I was far more moderate than other broadcasters and reminded viewers that’s this was just speculation.”

So much for Portuguese TV news. We’ll stick with the Express…

  1. 1 bullman Says:

here we go again, kate and gerry on the attack again, I thought the comment by the police about there being so many people in the apartment, before the police were called, that forensic evidence may have been damaged was extremly fair and subtly spoken. Their response was to attack the police and say that it was unhelpful to the investigation. These police are the very same police that are trying to patch up the blatant mistakes the mccanns mistakes in the first place. And now they are attacking the reporters for not reporting what they want reported.
If they are charged with any crime and they need legal representation, are they gonna attack the members of the public who gave cash and say that they didn’t give enough to pay their legal fees?

  2. 2 Pepe (london) Says:

It’s all over the portuguese news today that
    1. Blood traces were also found in the mccanns car (not only in the appartment).
    2. these have also been sent to the Birmingham lab for analysis three weeks ago.
    3. cops in portugal are questionning what’s going on with these samples. Initially they were told it would take 1 week, but three weeks have gone by without any results being sent back to portugal.
    4. cops were surprised with the mccanns reaction when they mentioned that the girl could be dead, because they knew exactly that before the investigators decided to bring in the sniffer dogs specialised in identifying dead bodies.
Question: is it really normal that evidence on such a high profile case is not analysed for 3 weeks??? what the hell is going on here? Why isn’t our press asking questions to the Birmingham lab?

Gerry McCanns sister in on ‘this morning’ right now.

  4. 4 AMANDA SOUTH AFRICA Says:

Poor child, if she was conceived with INVERTRO FERTILISATION then Gerry and Kate has some explaining to do to her when she is big to tell her Gerry is actually not her real Dad. And for a doctor to write on a birth sertificate what ever he wants, I think in a way that is fraud. Maybe it wasn`t even invertro but with them being swingers it could be anyone in the world and now her REAL DAD came to claim her because they ( Mc Cann`s ) are irresponsible parents. I really fee sorry for her and I pray to God with tears in my eyes that she if okay.

  5. 5 Moderation Says:

Of course he’s her real father. It’s IVF we’re talking about!! Used to be called Test Tube baby. Dad’s sperm, mothers egg, fertilised outside the womb and then replaced..
Doh! Of course THEY ARE THE BIOLOGICAL PARENTS.

  6. 6 Arnie Says:

And you know this how Moderation my dear fence sitter?

  7. 7 sandra Says:

    DUH HUH!!

  8. 8 Moderation Says:

Because that is what IVF is.
Not to be confused with AID. (artifical Insemination by Donor)

  9. 9 jonathan Says:

IVF could include the use of donor eggs or donor sperm. They key point about the procedure is that the egg is fertilised outside the womb (in vitro) and then placed back in the mother.

The idea that Gerry can forge a bith certificate is complete crap. A birth is registered by the mother who declares the father. Thats a legal process done at special office. Any ‘alteration’ to birth certificates is only achievable via legal (court) process e.g adoption. Gerry’s position as a medic has no bearing whatsoever.

Unfortunately, this as usual reflects badly on some of the reporting on this case. Nobody bothers to check facts any more. It was exactly the same with the Dutch letter. Two minutes research indicated it was a fake as soon as it was announced, but fake letters don’t sell newspapers, right?

  10. 10 penster Says:

Amanda South Africa please flush your head down the toilet.

  11. 11 AMANDA SOUTH AFRICA Says:

Okay, okay. Anyway, these 2 ladies that spotted her, did they say that she even cried when he picked her up by her head. What does he think she is, a doll or a dog you can just through around. I hope she is okay.
If GOD was a human being, being here on earth in flesh I would ask Him to open up our eyes, our minds and to please help us all overcome the mountains and barriers that is in our way at the moment. To tell MADDY not to be scared as the whole world is out there looking for her. God, please tell her to eat, she needs the strength to carry on each day and to smile because when she smiles she is telling these people softly in her own way ” STUFF YOU ALL “.She must always listen to them so they won`t give her a slap on her bum and she must be strong. We ( the world ) will not let her down. Please God, will you look after her until we find her. I would pay any price just to talk to Him in person and ask for his help and guidance to show us all they way to Madeleine.

    Isn’t that the truth Jonathon!

  13. 13 jonathan Says:

If it is actually true that the M’s are considering suing this reporter, there will a review and a lawyer acting on behalf of the M’s would contact the news agency involved. Of course, none of that has actually been reported so I take this as more BS?

Having said all that, if you’re the M’s and you want to shutdown some of negative press which would cause people to stop looking for MM, then even a veiled threat should start to reign in some of the unsubstantiated commentary.

Switching thoughts for a while, why haven’t these lab results come back? A simple DNA test can be run overnight, but clearly thats complicated by the sample quality. How long does DNA amplification take? Surely not this long and the results are already known?

  14. 14 penster Says:

Jonathon the Mccann’s representative today said that they were not planning on suing anyone, just focusing on getting their daughter back. But like Sandra says, that does not make for very interesting copy does it?

The press will have their pound of flesh regardless of who’s blood is spilt.

  15. 15 sandra Says:

Jonathon, this is what I found on this subject.
    http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,91210-1281201,00.html

About the DNA lab results, I am wondering the same thing.

  16. 16 jonathan Says:

99% of what is being written up is from ‘unofficial sources’. That in itself is not particularly unusual, but in this case there seems to be soooo much BS that it leaves us all confused. It all rather cyclic, as in something gets reported and then the next day, it get amplified a little more until finally a few days later it gets quoshed. That process gets repeated time over with every little thing. Interesting to note that the Times for example has backed off much of the coverage whilst the tabloids are selling newpapers on reporting on the fact that they effectively reported BS two days earlier. Interesting strategy.

  17. 17 Chris Says:

The Times and the BBC have both backed off - with any luck they are just refusing to follow the flock and repeat reports from reports from reports from….

so when they do have something to report it will be because there is some real news.

  18. 18 jonathan Says:

I have just read this report regarding an interview with Chief Inspector Olegrio Sousa:

    http://google.the-news.net/display.aspx?id=922-2

I think is report speaks volumes and since (one assumes) everything in it is factual if not a direct quote, it will reset a few malthinkers.

  19. 19 Molly Says:

Portuguese paper DN is reporting that the delay in the test results is due to the collection of the material in a ‘vacuum cleaner’ bag, which has resulted in a mixture of hairs, fibres etc which are proving difficult to separate.

Before anyone jumps on the Jingoist express it is as well to remember that these samples were collected by a team including Portuguese AND British police ;)

I’m not entirely convinced myself, but that it would seem is today’s theory on why the test results are taking so long.

As for the McCanns’ threatening legal action: extremely unlikely I would have thought, but it still made a good enough story to distract the media and public from Mrs Fenn’s testimony.

  20. 20 Moderation Says:

I didn’t think they used vacuum cleaners in holiday apartments with tiled floors but even if they do then surely the cleaners would empty them almost daily?

I still genuinely think that there is panic in Portugal, especially as it has been confirmed there is a big local drug porblem in Praia and many connected break-ins at holiday homes all along the coast. Tourist bookings are already down….
There have also been reports that Mrs Fenn’s reports aren’t entirley reliable. The niece has allegedly not confirmed the majority of it, hence her request for anonymity!

Again, who knows? Definitely not the Express! Although next week is the anniversary of Diana so the Express will go back to her and forget Madeleine for a while!

  21. 21 jonathan Says:

Moderation you are joking right? I’m sure the forensic team used their own ‘vaccum cleaner’ to collect everything!?
On the other hand may be my (humurous) comment about the PJ getting a warrant to search the cleaner’s cupboard wasn’t so far fetched.

…. In any event, the blood sample will have been taken by spatula or swab.

  22. 22 jonathan Says:

    (14) Amanda, not that I’m as direct as Penster think about the sighting and decide whether it passes what I call the Judge Judy test…

There is a £1m reward out for MM. I am the abductor and my car is dirty so rather than leave her stashed somewhere, I decide that I should take her down the local carwash with me.

I wish I was wrong, but let get real…..

  23. 23 Moderation Says:

The way it was reported was that the cleaners v.cleaners had been taken away!!
They might have used their own vacuum cleaner but if so it was three months after the event. The ‘crime scene’ wasn’t protected at the time and other families had stayed in the apartment before the Brit investigators checked it out and ‘allegedly’ found blood and fibres and skin and allsorts. Allegedly! So says the Portugese press!!

    Love it. .

  24. 24 swiss Says:

Have you all seen already what is written on briansprediction.com at missing people section. Pls have a look what he thinks about Madeleine’s case. Quit interesting !

  25. 25 jonathan Says:

Not to mention a half eaten biscuit but unfortunately the sniffer dog ate that before they could analyze it for dental comaprisons!

    Sorry, couldn’t resist.

  26. 26 AM Says:

And where do we find Moderation that Mrs Fenn’s testimony isn’t entirely reliable? I am awaiting the sarcastic comments!!

  27. 27 Molly Says:

    LOL Jonathan :)

What is it about petrol stations that produce these ’sightings’? Perhaps hallucinations are being cause by fumes ;)

Yes Moderation - I think the ‘vacuum cleaner’ bags must be special forensic ones, which they used for each car. Whether that is the norm or not I don’t know - if it is, then one would think that the Lab would be used to sorting through it… but who knows?

The locals that I know seem to be pretty convinced that Mrs Fenn is telling the truth.

It is true that there have been break in’s, but the attitude that I have seen to that, is a typical Med shrug and ‘well of course - there are always many break in’s and robberies during the summer season, the tourists have much cash and are not as careful as they should be, it always happens and is no worse than any other year’.

  28. 28 Birchell Says:

Something really puzzles me with all these sightings. If someone did indeed abduct Madeleine then surely they aren’t going to parade her in public after her photo been plastered in the media and across the world. No, surely they will have disguised her, cut her hair, changed the color, any number of possibilities. So why haven’t the police or press come up with possible identikit pictures of how Madeleine might look now rather than persisting with her original profile. There are so many areas that have been overlooked and I can only show appreciation for these types of threads and comments that may come up with some solutions and answers from the public.

  29. 29 Moderation Says:

Oh Yes, I’m sure its everywhere. I was cleaned out in Spain about 15 years ago…… but it is a consideration I would think. The burglars can be quite innovative and ruthless, especially if searching for drug money.

All I’m saying is what I hear / read / see. I have friends in Praia and the query over mrs Penn’s reliabilty as a witness has actually come from there from people who know here but if you think about it, not a lot has been made of it in the press here has it? and no-one had managed to pin down the niece, not even the cheque waving tabloids.

I do hope she hasn’t been confused over it all, more time-wasting is what they don’t need.

  30. 30 jonathan Says:

Unreliable reporting of an unreliable witness? I have seen the poor womans age range from mid 80’s something to low 70’s. I bet she wants to keep shtumm about which is correct.
