Madeleine McCann: Kate Is Drawn And The Scent Of Death
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY MAIL front page: “MADELEINE – Mother’s sensational claim as police quiz her for hours. THEY’RE TRYING TO FRAME ME.”
Kate McCann is “terrified” Portuguese police are trying to fit her up. She has been formally interviewed for the first time since the day after her daughter went missing.
Page 6: “Kate has absolutely nothing to hide, say her friends.”
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE. MUM: NOW WE FEAR WE ARE SUSPECTS. Police question her for hours.”
Kate McCann is “terrified” of being framed. “Part-time GP” Kate looks “strained and nervous” as she is driven to the Policia Judicara headquarters in Portimao. Kate takes fresh fruit and bottled water in a rucksack “to sustain her through the interview with two detectives”.
THE WORLD’S GRATES NEWSPAPER sees Kate kiss her husband Gerry on the lips (see photo) and clutching her daughter’s toy cat enter the police station.
Pages 4 and 5: “McCanns put return home on hold. They need to stay in Portugal for several weeks “to ensure any new leads are thoroughly investigated” by the local police.
The Express looks at the “astonishing smears” levelled against the McCanns, including the one that sniffer dogs used by British police found the scent of a corpse on jeans worn by Kate. The Express is appalled that such things should make it into print in Portuguese daily Correio da Manha.
THE SUN front page: “DID YOU SEDATE MADDIE?” In the Sun’s “EXCLUSIVE” readers learn “Cops name Kate as suspect and grill her”.
Pages 4 and 5: Kate and Gerry McCann have been told they are suspects. Kate is to be formally registered as an “arguido”, at least during the interviews. It will be the same for husband Gerry.
Page 8: “The Sun’s editorial tells of “Kate’s agony”. The “plodding” Portuguese police “should be ashamed of themselves”. Asks the Sun: “Hasn’t she suffered enough?” Kate is “pale”.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “Portuguese police called Kate and Gerry McCann back in but refused point-blank to tell them why. Both now fear that today they will be named as SUSPECTS”.
A source claimed British tests on “forensic samples had highlighted a discrepancy in the McCanns’ account in the night Madeleine disappeared.”
Pages 4 and 5: “They are going though a terrible ordeal..Kate is terrified that she will be..FRAMED.”
The Mirror says the McCanns’ summer break has been “A HOLIDAY FROM HELL”. It sees Kate “confidently” stroll into the police station.
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE – ‘We are being framed’.”
Page 11: “We’re being stitched up.”
“TOY HOLDS CLUE. British sniffer dogs found the scent of death on Madeleine’s favourite soft toy Cuddlecat, it was revealed.”
THE TIMES front page: “McCann interviews.”
Page 5: Says Kate McCann: “We came to Portugal an ordinary family of five. We just want to know what happened on May 3 and want to be able to go home one family, reunited.”
THE TELEGRAPH: “I fear I am a suspect, says Kate McCann.”
Page 5: Kate McCann is kept waiting for an hour and 15 minutes before her police interview.
The lease on the McCanns rented villa expires on Tuesday and the couple will make a decision about leaving once the interviews are complete.
THE GUARDIAN: “Madeleine mother questioned for 11 hours.”
THE INDEPENDENT: “Madeleine’s mother ’still just a witness’ after 11-hour interview.” Kate McCann looks “tired and drawn”.

The McCanns are a bunch of bullshitters, [EDIT} I think they may have possibly [EDIT} murdered their child and have successfully covered it up they are smart and , may well get away with it.
MODS AND ADMIN
I have given you the benefit of the doubt Daphne and edited your post for you - if you attempt to post something else as inflammatory as this again it will languish in moderation for all time.

Who had the rental car before the McCanns? I know it might be a ridiculous coincidence, but shouldn’t all the previous renters be cleared?

I got sick to my stomach when I saw that priest who lendt to the theatrical couple the church keys… I am a born catholich who doesnt think too highly of the catholic church and priests in general…but lending church keys to some it is just….cant find a word for it. I wish so hard children were better and more protected…and not only because they secure the system´s future…but because they are so fragile together with elderly, handicaped, ill etc… I only know that a little child is gone…and their parents and relatives are making much money out of this tragedy… and that shows much to me….about them, the press, the system, and us all…

Yes, I agree with you, I cant help becoming emotional about it because i happen to be an emotional person, in the last weeks I have been able to notice in short videos of Madeleine when shown on tv ( too many times I would say), how bloated her whole little face looks (probably from the tranquilizers) and a deep sad look in her eyes.. it breaks my heart… I am not a mother… but I am sick and tired of seeing parents all over with children treating them badly and behaving fed up as if they couldnt have chosen not to have them… i find it so very cruel… There are literally millions of children dying of hunger in the world just because men impose their beliefs and traditions upon the women who often are raped and have no power to decide much. In Europe it shouldnt be like that but we are not that much ahead…every child born must come into the world because their parents will truely care and give them tons of love and affection so they turn to be geniune humans and not broken primates…. but as we see it is not the case…. More than 6000 children disappear in the 1st world every year…. I cant help feeling ashamed of belonging to the human race…. This case remainds me much of the OJ Simpson case years ago…. I hope Europe shows to be more just than the US.

Two observations on this affair from the perspective of a British ex-pat, of long ago, now in Canada:
1) The great difficulty with which so many in Britain (if many of the postings and media commentary is an indication) are having, and will have, in facing up to the reality that what appears on the surface to be an image of respectable (medical professionals, no less) upright, devout, middle class British parents, may turn out to be, as more and more incriminating evidence comes to light, a cruel and thoroughly deceptive mirage.
2) Regardless of whatever evidence there might be, the “body language” of the McCanns should, I think, strike many, and certainly trained psychologists, as “not right” to say the least. The eyes and the look of these two in interviews and in public do not at all convey the anger, grief or emotion that one would normally expect to see in people in similar circumstances. I, for one, am left with the impression of two who are devoid of emotions (of a conscience?). A callous, unfeeling emptiness is what is conveyed; middle class phoneyness and pretence.
If Madeleine McCann ever turns up alive, I’ll eat my words. But the possibility of that happening are virtually zero, in my view. The ugly truth and coverup are slowly coming to light.

It said in the Times yesterday that the McCanns had keys to the church (how does that happen? I’ve never been given keys to the church when I was on holiday, have you?)
But what a convenient place to hide a body for 3 weeks.

Is everyone in the UK blind or what ? the mccanns are acting like they were on a film…. their coldness is scary and pathetic, I am disgusted….
even more scary to know people with such a moral, NO moral whatsoever… are doctors…. I wish a miracle happens and they find no good lawyer to defend them… please all, dont forget: “Justice is always the convenience of the strongest”. To me, no matter what will happen, both are responsable for the death and disappearence of M. I only feel so sorry for the twins. The whole family and friends are acting just as bad…they belong all to the same sect…: “only money matters…”

Moderation, you said:
I think you’re describing British parents, not Portuguese.
The crime was committed in Portugal. Let them bloody prosecute it.

‘The alleged “smoking gun” evidence used to implicate Madeleine’s parents in her killing could be fatally flawed, experts said last night….’
‘For the McCanns, this leaves open the possibility that Madeleine’s DNA was transferred by them or by an item impregnated with her cells, like an item of clothing or her cuddly toy bunny, which Kate McCann has carried constantly since her daughter’s disappearance.
The revelation once again puts the spotlight on dangers of overreliance on forensic evidence which has led to a string of miscarriages of justice in the UK and disquiet about the safety of convictions in other high-profile cases……….’

Moderation, I agree, everyone on here is being so righteous about McC’s leaving their kids… its not right but, it goes on, at least they were checking them regularly…
They have had enough punishment for their mistake/misjudgement - would anyone on here prefer a jail sentence or losing a child?

PJDuncan… I worked in child protection until a few years ago and I find some of the whooping and hollering about the McCanns naive.
Almost any street in UK will have children on their own at night while their parent is out on the town.
If they get caught they get parenting lessons. Maybe…
Any Iberian resort will at any time, have hotels full of families with parents in the bar at night and children locked in the rooms.
The Little House on the Prairie isn’t real life. The Jeremy Kyle Show is. Sadly.

maybe now that the parents are back in England - a much more in depth investigation can begin - with the car and the appartment. There is no reason why at this stage, that they should stay in Portugal, and with them not there then maybe this investigation can be carried out more effectively without the constant camera and press attention.

I enjoyed reading the posts and all the time spent discussing the case. It is time for me to leave cyberworld. I will miss all of you. Oh, again, I do believe in time, hindsight, all of this will fall into place. Bye, Pat

Mods. Good points. But how about the drive to the airport? How about their natural desire to avoid the press pack waiting for them and following them there? Should they have walked or taken a bus? Or relied on a taxi that might possibly have arrived there late? You can’t be late for the Pope, right?
Would they not have needed any money on the trip? Could they not have wanted to go to the bank to exchange some traveller’s cheques, perhaps?
How about shopping for items they may have wanted to take with them on the trip? Toiletries, clothes, a gift for the Pope or the Vatican embassy perhaps? A book or magazines to read on the plane? How about shopping for items for the twins, such as toys to keep them occupied while they were away, or grocery items to keep them fed?
They were only going to be there a day or two. Wasn’t it ideal to have a car waiting for them at the airport on their return, considering again the press pack that would be there? It wasn’t such an extravaggance if you consider that they had the free use of the plane.
Moreover, the fact that they have kept the car all this time indicates that they didn’t get it to “just to hide Madelenie’s body.” They evidently prefer to drive than to traipse around on foot. Quite natural. Who doesn’t?
