Madeleine McCann: A Wild Theory, Clarence Mitchell Says And Father Pacheco Vanishes
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY MIRROR front page: “First she loses a child. Then she is suspected of killing her. Now she fights back. WHY I AM INNOCENT. BY KATE McCANN.”
Pages 4 and 5: Kate says her Portuguese lawyer believes in her and Gerry McCann’s innocence: “She’s also of the view that everyone she has spoken to in Praia da Luz also believe we didn’t do it.”
The Mirror says Portuguese police are working on the “wild theory”, Kate accidentally killed her daughter.
The Mirror has in the past voiced the theory that Madeleine McCann was abducted by an international gang of paedophiles and has been spotted in Morocco, Malta and Belgium. The Mirror produced six theories after Madeleine vanished. Read them here. And, no, Kate and Gerry were not mentioned as suspects.
The paper’s Brian Reade says: “I can’t see how any sane person could have convinced themselves the McCanns were capable of doing this and covering it up.”
Pages 6 and 7: The Mirror says the McCanns’ new media operator, Clarence Mitchell, cut his teeth at the BBC where the Soham murders.
THE TIMES front page: “Portuguese officers fly in to question McCanns.”
Page 3: “We can explain Madeleine’s DNA in our car, say parents.”
A family “source” looks at the McCanns’ hired people mover and says: “Who is to say what happened when they moved to the new villa? The seats were ripped out and everything including Madeleine’s sandals and the twins’ nappies were dumped in the car – which would have included traces of skin, sweat and bodily fluids.”
THE SUN front page: “MADDIE SENSATION. CAR DNA WAS TWINS’. Nappies in boot cold clear parents.”
Pages 4 and 5: “We talk about Maddie to the kids every day.” Given how children talks and how prevalent Madeleine’s face is on the newspapers, in the bank and how she talked about by mums on the school run, the McCanns twins might hear of little else.
Page 6: “We must have faith Maddie will be found,” says the Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu. Says he: “Speculation will not help. Evidence and witnesses will.” As God is my witness.
THE INDEPENDENT page 6: “McCanns launch fightback over ‘nonsensical’ murder claims.”
Clarence Mitchell says the claim the McCanns harmed their child are “as ludicrous as it is nonsensical”.
DAILY STAR front page: “McCANNS: WE’LL FACE TRIAL. Parents admit there is enough evidence to charge them.”
Pages 4 and 5: “WE CAN EXPLAIN EVERY SHRED OF POLICE EVIDENCE.”
Katie Andre, aka Jordan says: “Whether they are guilty or not, I think they are in some way to blame for whatever happened to that poor girl by leaving her alone in a room with two babies…you just don’t do it.”
Page 6: “MADDIE PRIEST HAS VANISHED.” The “tormented priest who detectives think Kate McCann may have confessed to” is missing. Father Jose Pacheco has “disappeared”. Is he a suspect?
DAILY MAIL front page: “MADELEINE: DNA evidence branded ‘pathetic’ as fightback begins. “McCANNS: DOSSIER FOR THE DEFENCE.”
Pages 4 and 5: “The smears that started on Day 1.” The Mail says the McCanns’ lawyers are “going back through the newspapers to look for evidence of black propaganda planted by police.”
The McCanns have a new spokesman. Clarence Mitchell is a married father of two.
“While the police were secretly spinning their doubts about the McCanns to the media, the couple were faithfully obeying Portugal’s strict laws preventing them from speaking about the investigations.”
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE. HER MOTHER IS INNOCENT. We can prove it says family as Portuguese police fly to Britain.”
Pages 2 and 3: “Mother in jail over secret.” Kate McCanns could be jailed for telling journalists that police had seized her Bible. (See Mail story above.)
Page 4: “Madeleine: Police will question two priests on Algarve.” Jose Manuel Pacheco will be questioned. If police can find him. As will his Anglican colleague Haynes Hubbard.
DAILY TELEGRAPH front page: “McCanns challenge police evidence.”
Page 6: “’An innocent explanation for everything’.”
“Celebrities anger police.” A senior Portuguese police officer says: “It is amazing to me that people in high positions are getting involved…doesn’t Gordon Brown have a job to do?”
THE GUARDIAN: “McCANNS ‘innocent victims of heinous crime’.” Clarence Mitchell is with the McCanns.

As the saying goes, “History always repeats itself” and the similarities with the JonBenet Ramsey case are shocking. Read this article (long but good read):-

How to win friends and influence people,
or how to motivate the people working 24/7 to find your missing 4-year old daughter:-
Philomena Mccan says of the Portugese police, “These people are imbeciles.”
http://news.scotsman.com/topics.cfm?tid=1590&id=1437752007
And of course no parents who go galavanting around Europe visiting the Pope, speaking at Film Festivals,
posing to have their photos taken outside the White House, doing TV chat shows, writing meaningless web blogs and running away from the crime scene can be described as imbeciles when the 3-year old
baby who they left alone in an unlocked apartment with 2 others in a foreign country night after night to get drunk gets “abducted”, can they Philomena?
And there’s absolutely nothing imbecilur about an extremely fat woman who has uncontrollably eaten so much she can barely walk. You would think her “world renown” heart specialist brother would have given her some advice on that.
I can imagine her on the news tonight…. “My brother Gerry McCann has absolutely nothing to do with me being extremely fat. He is completely innocent of everything. He called me this morning from the tennis club and told me the Police had offered him a free haircut if he admitted I was too fat. He only wants to focus on the search for his beautiful daughter Madeleine who was abducted…”
and then the clip cuts across to their brother John McCann… “Gerry wouldn’t care two hoots about how fat Philomena is, he really would not. But if thats what it takes to clear his name, then lets put Philomena in Loch Ness, compare her to the monster and measure how fat she really is and get it over with so we can all focus on the important task of finding Madeleine.”

Todays Telegraph reports on the build-up of evidence against them:-
“Kate and Gerry are utterly convinced there is an entirely innocent explanation for every shred of it.” The friend said a pair of Madeleine’s unwashed pyjamas had been among the clothes thrown into the back of the car when the McCanns left the holiday apartment. They left in a hurry, throwing their belongings into carrier bags, plastic sacks and even loose, because they were trying to avoid the media.
Sorry, but I find it impossible to believe that Gerry “I want to be the next James Bond” Mccann wanted to avoid press publicity at that time. He was loving every minute of it, just look at his daily schedule while his daughter was missing. You only have to look at the boring medical articles he has to write for journals to see what a dull life he previously lived. He virtually called newspaper editors and journalists from the moment he woke each morning. He was loving all the attention.
3. ITS COOL
The Mccans say dont worry folks, we can explain everything. Well, with the country’s top criminal defence lawyer being paid for by one of the country’s richest men, I am sure the Mccans can “explain” anything and everything that happened in the whole world ever….. crop circles, the bermuda triangle…
Pinochet was accused of being involved in the death of 3000 people, so the Mccanns case is small fry for Angus McBride who also acted for Langham when he was accused of being a paedophile. Even after the case, DCI Paul Fotheringham of Kent police said “He doesn’t like the label, but I am satisfied that he is a paedophile.”
See: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/columnists/india_knight/article2461236.ece
And the McCanns paid PR man says they are innocent too, so they must be. Or is he just doing his job?
There’s an idea. If the Mccann’s paid each of the 68million people in Britain 1.406pence from their fund, they could then ask them all to insist they were innocent and then we can blame it all on the unknown moustached bogey-man tourist hovering behind Gerry Mccan in that holiday snap. But wasnt he a bit too short to climb through the bedroom window?
But it would be a lot easier if the whole Tapas 9 came clean about what really happened that evening. What are they waiting for - hasnt the News of the World offered them enough yet for a world exclusive?

My opinion os that Ian Willis is just a bit nuts so the nonsensical ramblings are best ignored.
Where did all the decent debate go?

Put this over from the last string:
a new taste to the story: moving filled and unclosed nappies from one house to another.Their luggage must still be stinking. Do english doctors ever learn any hygienical standards? Or did they open the nappies that one wouldn’t smell something else?
and ‘brandon flowers’(1019):so we can add lack of hygene to the neglect list

Oh not again!
The nappies were ‘used’ as in ‘not new’……

Decent debate disappears when you arrive Moderation - you don’t like opinions do you? Other than your own of course - because you are the champion of common sense.
Much better to waffle from the fence isn’t it?

One theory that has been promulagated on anorak can at least be put down.
It was suggested that the PJ were trying to frame the McCanns because the affair was bad for tourism on the Algarve.
In the Miiror yesterday, we read “The Algarve Tourist Board yesterday said tourism had increased after expecting a fall in visitors. They said ‘It’s been exceptional with hotel occupancy at 98.6 per cent’.
So, no fall in revenues … no evidence for a frame-up.

you must have a picture of Hitler on your bedroom wall or even George Bush!
didnt they both go round killing people who didnt agree with them?

Dirty nappies thrown in the back of the car? Wearing unwashed clothes which have been in contact with a corpse on holiday? Taking a child’s favourite toy to work and letting it come into contact with corpses? No wonder there is such a problem with MRSA in hospitals in the UK!

Looking forward to seeing where the scent of the evidence is going to take us today - so far it looks as if Ian Willis will be our pack leader.
Looking forward to hours of diverting commentary. But will only the cadaver dogs be barking?

Of course, you live in the world where only disposable nappies exist!
September 19th, 2007 at 9:03 am
14 Moderation - Of course, you live in the world where only disposable nappies exist!
No not at all. My sister used cloth nappies for both of her children but would use disposable on holiday due to the simple fact that she didn’t have access to a washing machine. Somehow, I cannot see Mrs McCann using the washing machine, if one was indeed available, at the MW facility every day.
September 19th, 2007 at 9:04 am
So if the mc canns preffered to go dining abandoning their babies on hol
if kate found them such a handful and gerry did bugger all to help
You honestly think that on holiday they brought reusable nappies and a load of sanitary equipment to wash all the nappies in between tennis tappas ?
September 19th, 2007 at 9:05 am
If these nappies (whatever their providence) are so important to the McCann’s case, why did they fail to preserve the evidence in sealed evidence bads.
Does team McCann have no investigative or forsenic expertise?
September 19th, 2007 at 9:06 am
Good mornig to all! ;o)
I have one question! I had read for some weeks that british PROFILER flown to Portugal! They wanted to work in the case of Madeleine! I don´t heard any informations about the results! And I heard from the fantastic work about Danie Krugel from africa! Is he involved in the Maddie surch or not? Who knows something about it??? Thank you very much!

Again i think this delay is giving police a chance to give them enough rope to hang themselves!
they are deluded and feel they are above the law
September 19th, 2007 at 9:11 am
If the McCanns wanted to leave their appartment at the MW quickly so as to avoid press attention, why ever did they not just bundle everything in a suitcase. You can carry much more in a suitcase in one journey than you can in your arms.
These excuses are starting to sound very lame and desperate.
September 19th, 2007 at 9:13 am
Is the object the PJ is looking for hidden in a nappie?
September 19th, 2007 at 9:13 am
Just as well they’ve now had plenty of time to come up with answers to those questions they refused to answer. I’m sure they will be found innocent any day now, besides their lawyer had to defend a guy who was alledged to have killed 3000+ people this will be a cakewalk for him. Add to that the government has kindly provided a new super spin doctor for them i think there will be some hefty suing going on after this.
September 19th, 2007 at 9:13 am
‘Kate says her Portuguese lawyer believes in her and Gerry McCann’s innocence: “She’s also of the view that everyone she has spoken to in Praia da Luz also believe we didn’t do it.”’
Yeah but I thought Kate and Gerry also remarked that the Portuguese are morons? Or something along those lines?
September 19th, 2007 at 9:15 am
‘“MADDIE PRIEST HAS VANISHED.” The “tormented priest who detectives think Kate McCann may have confessed to” is missing. Father Jose Pacheco has “disappeared”. Is he a suspect?’
Maybe he’s actually out looking for Madeleine?
September 19th, 2007 at 9:17 am
Morning all
These nappies sound “interesting”. Surely, even when one is moving in a hurry (sounds like a moonlight flit to me and IF as has been alleged, the media know of the Mc’s every move, how come there are no piccy’s of the hurried move?) anyway, even when one is moving in a hurry, one does tend to throw one’s rubbish away rather than lug it with one to the next residence - even when doing a moonlight flit!
This idea of them moving out of the glare of the public eye leads to another question
Just as it was possible for them to move their belongings without pictures of the not new possibly used, maybe clean, maybe dirty nappies coming to light, is it not equally possible for them to have moved the body, in a sports bag as she was a tiny little thing, without any pictures too??
Just a thought…………(and for those of you who are going to start screeching about the body decomposing and freezers etc…..think air conditioning!)
September 19th, 2007 at 9:17 am

Probably just wants to distance himself from this sad and sorry saga.
September 19th, 2007 at 9:18 am
OK … lets be logical here:
The McCanns were on holiday - even if they had unpacked all of their luggage in the apartment that they were originally in … the police re-packed it for them when they moved to the second apartment after Madeleine disappeared.
Why then would they UNpack Madeleine’s things when she wasn’t there, including dirty laundry, so that when they moved again it was all loose in the back of the car.
Even if they DID unpack her things, why would they not pack things back into suitcases for the second move - the press were not in their apartment, and anyway (according to Gerry’s Blog) there were hardly any press around at all by the time they moved into the villa.
Who in God’s name piles clothing and used nappies together in the back of a car? To quote clarence Mitchell - it would be laughable if it wasn’t so serious!
If there is one thing that REALLY makes me angry, it is being taken for an idiot - and quite frankly this claim is so absurd that I cannot help but think that the McCanns’ and their team view the British Public as complete morons!

Your “somehow” is well grounded. We cannot forget that neither Gerry nor kate could be bothered to take their children out to dine with them or to hire a sitter. So this leave a normal person’s imagination logically unable to grasp the idea of cloth diapers /nappies.
Although the McCanns more than likely cannot handle babyshit they sure as hell do quite well handling other varieties.
Hoepfully the proverbial fan is on full blast and soon the you-know-what will hit it.
