Madeleine McCann: Team McCann The Armada, Bugging Calls And ‘Inhuman’ Kate

mccanns-gerry-kate.jpgMADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.

THE SUN front page: “Cops to Maddie parents: We have nothing.”

Pages 4 and 5: Portuguese police are “understood” to have bugged the McCanns’ mobile phones, placed a tracking device on their car and checked their emails.

Con by lawyer: “Master swindler” Paul Bint, dubbed “King Con”, pretended to be a lawyer representing the McCanns to cheat money from a businesswoman. To date, Bint has posed as a ballet dancer, a policeman and a duke.

DAILY MIRROR front page: “WE ARE BEING BUGGED – Phone eavesdrop fear of Madeleine parents.”

A friend of the McCanns says that Gerry McCann will “often refuse” to talk on mobiles because he considers Landlines “safer”.

Kate and Gerry feel they are “being watched all the time”. (See Mirror’s front-page and BBC news.)

DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE. NOW THE MYSTERY DEEPENS. Case is wide open again as judge say parents will NOT face more questions.”

Page 2: “It’s back to nursery for the twins as life goes on.” Madeleine’s twin siblings Sean and Amelie are back in class. “They enjoyed it,” says Clarence Mitchell, giving up-to-the-minute briefings from the sandpit.

Page 3: “New slur: ‘Kate is inhuman, even animals will look after their young’.”

The WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER is shocked and deeply saddened by goings on in the Portuguese press. A Filomena Teixeira, whose son was abducted nine years ago, tells magazine TV 7 Dais the McCanns are “human beings at their worst”. The magazine notes: “Instead of calling Sky News she contacted the boy’s friends, the fireman and the police. At the same time she never dreamed of contacting the press or a PR.”

A newspaper labels the McCanns and their PR team the “British Armada”.

Pages 4 and 5: “Now police bug parents and track every move they make.”

DAILY MAIL front page: “MADDIE CASE IN MELTDOWN. Police told: There’s not enough evidence to quiz McCanns again.”

Pages 6 and 7: “British police bugging calls.”

THE TIMES front page: “Police ‘have found no new evidence against the McCanns’.”

Pages 10 and 11: “Who is who in Team McCann.”

Clarence Mitchell: Kate and Gerry’s official spokesman
Michael Caplan, QC: Lawyer who prevented extradition to Spain of former Chilean president Augusto Pinochet
Angus McBride: Criminal solicitor
Carolos Pinto de Abreu: Portuguese lawyer
Esther McVey: Former GMTV presenter and Tory parliamentary candidate. Spokeswoman for Madeleine Fund. Has known Kate McCann since A-levels
Father Haynes Hubbard: Anglican priest at church of Nossa Senhora da Luz.
Calum MacRae:2 18-year-old producer of Find Madeleine website
Philomena McCann: Gerry McCann’s sister. A head teacher.
Trish and Sandy Cameron: Gerry McCann’s sister and brother-in-law

No mention of Robert Murat, the other named suspect.

DAILY STAR front page: “POLICE SET TO DIG FOR MADDIE.” Police have tracked the phone records of Kate and Gerry McCann. They have studied their movements. And now they are ready to send in infra-red equipments and sniffer dogs.

Pages 4 and 5: “DIG FOR MADDIE BEGINS.”

THE GUARDIAN front page: “McCanns: further questions ruled out.”

The Portuguese attorney general says there is not enough evidence to justify questioning Kate and Kerry McCann.

Luis Bilro Verao tells one and all: “No new evidence justifying further questioning has emerged since September 7.” So that’s it? Er, no. The McCanns will remain suspects until “not line of investigation” has been excluded.

DAILY TELEGRAPH front page: “McCanns will not be re-interrogated.”

Page 9: “Madeleine’s last dance with father.” Restaurant owner Miguel Matias says he saw Madeleine eating ice-cream and fruit juice before dancing with Gerry. It was May 3, the day she vanished. Says he:” We didn’t see anyone suspicious looking at the girl.”

THE INDEPENDENT page 19: “Pressure on McCanns eases as police back off.” Clarence Mitchell says: “On the face of it, it does appear to be encouraging.”

The Story So Far

  1. 1 mk Says:

    first?

  2. 2 noseycow Says:

interesting - i thought the priest was anglican clergy - in which case if he has heard any confessions then he is not bound to keep it to himself..is that why he’s dissapeared? or have they found him yet?

  3. 3 Tony Bennett Says:

Clarence Mitchell’s smooth performance about the McCann case in response to relatively gentle questions by Ed Stourton was on the BBC Radio 4 ‘Today’ programme at around 7.10am. He said all the right things - 10 out of 10 for his OR performance - but the questioning didn’t get anywhere near all the contradictions and Team McCann lies and deceptions.

You can catch it again on ‘Listen Again’ at:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4

  4. 4 Karen Says:

Do we know for sure the police are backing off or is this more spin?

  5. 5 noseycow Says:

thanks Tony - but I can’t bear to listen to the man. A few days ago he said they could explain any evidence the pj have against them, today they are being kept in the dark. How can you explain ANY evidence when you don’t know what it is ….unless you are going to make it up?

  6. 6 brandon flowers Says:

Why were we all cut off yesterday?

    were we being muted?

  7. 7 noseycow Says:

I don’t know brandon - I assumed it was because there were a lot of people posting?

  8. 8 brandon flowers Says:

    4

    Maybe they have enough evidence

  9. 9 milisoreja Says:

two priests involved. An anglican and a catholic. Yesterday Mirror said the catholic had vanished.

  10. 10 brandon flowers Says:

    7

seems a bit convenient, theres always losts of postings

I left at 300 to pick up kids and was cut off

usually they go on till the early hours

  11. 11 Karen Says:

I’m sick of seeing Kate with Cuddle Cat. A person who can’t let go of an object is in an extreme state of mental collapse. They’re probaby about to go into a mental hospital.

Kate isn’t that distressed. She’s doing it to be seen doing it - she even puts it in her bag, but makes sure it’s sticking out. It’s for the press, not for her.

What is wrong with them? Why do they have to fake grief and concern about their own daughter?

  12. 12 Tony Bennett Says:

So who wants to publicliy sue them for wilful neglect on 3 little angels that trusted them , God blessed them the chance to look after them, and they returned this by choosing to leave them on their own where anything could have happened to them, and it did?

REPLY: Some of us have already linked up and are activley considering the possibility of a private prosecution against Kate and Gerry McCann for child neglect. There is enough evidence of it from the McCanns’ own mouths. We are waiting to see what Social Services do. The absolute minimum we would expect is for Leicestershire Social Services to annouce:

    (a) a Section 47 investgation under the 1989 Children Act,

    (b) the holding a Child Protection Case Conference, and

    (c) the placing of the twins on the Leicestershire Child Protection Register.

A letter has also been sent to the N.S.P.C.C. asking them to investigate the confirmed reports of all three children being left on their own night after night. The statements of the parents that they are ‘responsibe parents’ and that this was just like ‘having a barbecue in your back garden’ are additional points for concern, as they do not appear to be aware of what is safe child care practice

  13. 13 noseycow Says:

Perhaps the reports that the pj arrived in uk yesterday were true? Perhaps they are not going to question them again. The judge had 10 days to order further investigations etc etc, so maybe they will be charged today?

An interesting defence of the dna

  14. 14 milisoreja Says:

I don’t know what they did to Madeleine. But we know what they did to the twins. Whith what will they have to confront themselves when they are older?

  15. 15 Solaris Says:

It looks like a lot of it is spin, spin, spin.

The police are not backing off.
It looks that they’re building up a stronger case to pursue an accusation of “homicide” and are awaiting for more information from B’Ham labs before moving forward with new actions (eg digging and or re-interviewing).

If they were made “arguidos” and this status was not changed by the Judge, it means that they do have enough evidence to prove that the Mccanns were involved in - at least - moving a dead body. But evidence of moving a body, will not allow the portuguese to suggest that the same people that moved the body are actually responsible for the death. This is the sticking point where the police will try to gather solid evidence.

    you’ve read it here first

  16. 16 Patricia Says:

Does Anorak have a telephone number?

  17. 17 Solaris Says:

Noseycow - thanks for the article.
I suppose we’ll all have to wait a few more weeks before we know what are the DNA samples that have been analysed etc. I was surprised to see so many British so-called experts and academics coming forward in the last week to challenge DNA evidence, the work of the B’Ham labs and other things that they don’t really know about.

At best this indicates some worrying lack of ethics in the British scientific and academic community. At worst, this indicates that there are a lot of “professors for sale” in Britain… and I wonder who is “buying them”.

  18. 18 milisoreja Says:

    2 and 9
Sorry, it was the Daily Star: Maddie priest has vanished

  19. 19 Seymour Laws Says:

    Morning Observer Corps.

All ranks to maintain vigilance until further notice.

I trust that you can all continue to maintain operational efficiency in an evidentual vacuum what what.

In Court today, but will look in later.

    Carry on.

  20. 20 Garth Says:

    Karen 11

What is wrong with them? Why do they have to fake grief and concern about their own daughter?

    Are you for real?

If your that frustrated with them go to the gym and have workout or something and get rid of all your nasty little gremlins

Lets have some decent comments instead of the usual mumbo jumbo some people can’t help but spew out…..

  21. 21 Veres Says:

Why’s Gerry McCann worried about phone taps if he’s nothing to hide. As for the missing Priest/ Nanny, probably fish food along with Madeleine, allegedly.

    12

    Tony Bennett

Will a private prosecution work though, and won’t it need some heavy hitting lawyers and a serious load of cash to instigate it? Then again, a web page, an appeal, donate money to prosecute the McCanns for wilful neglect, the money will roll in. It’d dwarf the McCann fund in minutes.

  22. 22 SSS Says:

    Morning All

The priest who has disappeared (allegedly) is Catholic not Anglican, althought the Mc’s DID attend the Anglican church also, which apparently is odd for a Catholic (not Catholic so not sure but work colleagues tell me so)

The bandwidth limit was exceeded, which means there were too many people all on the page at one time (again, this is some one telling me that is what it means with reference to this particular situation)

It is odd, that the same week that the (ex) head of the MMU becomes the spokesperson, GMTV are calling them the “Tapas 9″ (a phrase coined here?), the Times are making direct reference to forums like this, the bandwidth is exceeded. It could be coincidence, or it could be half of Whitehall, Fleet Street, the Met Police and the PJ are also looking in!

If so, Good Morning to you voyeurs too :-D

  23. 23 Veres Says:

    19

You’re in court today Seymour? I hope they send you down!

    ;-) only kidding.

  24. 24 Moriarty Says:

    24th

  25. 25 Moriarty Says:

    (13) noseycow

I like your thinking. After all is not today day 10 since they were arguido?

  26. 26 Patricia Says:

Okay, so this has been quite a show. In the end will anyone be impressed? That is the question.

  27. 27 Moriarty Says:

    (23) Veres

Yes..then he can be Seymour Showers ;-)

  28. 28 Toni Says:

SSS good morning , and hey if they are all looking in I am going to change my outfit and put some lippy on, be back just now :)

  29. 29 Seymour Laws Says:

23 I (on behalf of my client) am applying for an injunction - the only thing that will be send down is a substaintial brief fee what what

  30. 30 SSS Says:

    28

What we need is a forum where we can post pictures LOL. That way, when they see how stunningly attractive we are, we too will have jobs as spokesperson’s and can just stand there all day spouting anti-PJ bullpoo too :-D

Oh, and having our lippy applied professionally!
