Madeleine McCann: Spies, Richard Branson PI And Maddy TV

mccann-car.jpgMADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.

DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE. SPY-IN-SKY PLAN TO FIND HER KIDNAPPER.”

So she was kidnapped. Wasn’t she?

“Satellite and aerial footage as well as internet traffic should be used to help the hunt,” say “intelligence experts”, including Professor Anthony Glees, Director of Brunel University’s Centre for Intelligence and Security Studies. Security is his thing.

Pages 4 and 5: “Riddle of the McCanns’ day out” – Why did the McCanns go to Spain on August 3 and what did they do there? Clarence Mitchell says the TV cameras and journalists tracked their every move.

“Branson: They are innocent” – Richard Branson PI calls it a “grotesque nightmare”. He has donated £100,000 to help the McCanns clear their name. He says the McCanns have “the weight and support of Britain behind them”.

THE SUN front page: “OUTRAGE AS COPS CLAIM MADDIE ‘BURIED IN SPAIN’.”

Pages 6 and 7: “POLICE PROBE LOST 2 HOURS” – Police Claim the McCanns buried Madeleine during a “missing two hours” in Spain.

Kate and Gerry are “shattered”.

Says the Sun:

SUSPICIOUS the trip was postponed from the day before – because Gerry had intestinal problems.
“’STRANGE’” that the couple from Rothley, Leics, chose to visit Spain on a national holiday, when the shops were shut.
MYSTERIOUS that the McCanns racked up ‘unjustified mileage’ in their Renault Scenic – hired 25 days after Maddie disappeared.”

A source says a new ad campaign to find Madeleine will start in two weeks.

DAILY MAIL page 3: “Police use CCTV to map McCanns trips.”

As newspaper Correio de Manha reports, Spanish police have given their Portuguese counterparts CCTV footage “showing the Renault Scenic in places in Spain where there was ‘no reason’ for the couple to be.”

A TV series based on Madeleine McCann is being produced in Chile. Says Chilean newspaper El Mercurio: “The case is becoming a soap opera.”

DAILY MIRROR front page: “KATE IS SO FRAGILE. Fears for mum after latest blow.”

Kate McCann’s face is all over the front page. “The anguish is plain to see.” A friend hears that Madeleine had not been found in Morocco: “Kate is so fragile. She’s suffering a devastating disappointment.”

Page 5: “They suffered a devastating blow with the false alarm in Morocco. Kate has crashed.”

“COPS PROBE SPAIN TRIP.”

DAILY STAR pages 6 and 7: “MADDIE DUMPED IN SPAIN.” An “exclusive”.

THE TIMES page 16: Mick Hume says: “The line between investigation and emotive entertainment has disappeared.”

THE TELEGRAPH page 6: “Portuguese focus on McCanns’ Spain trip” – Clarence Mitchell says the McCanns are innocent.

    morning

  2. Veres Says:

Richard Branson says they have the weight and support of Britain behind them. Sorry but is that a whiff of horsesh*t I detect?

  3. Veres Says:

If I was an advisor to GM I’d be advising him that if he sees some soap on the floor in the shower block, under no circumstances should he bend over to pick it up.

  4. Anorak Says:

Site - went down due to weight of traffick. 12 million pages this month already. Can the Find Madeleine fund spare a few bob for Anorak?

  5. LL Cool J Says:

Anorak - love reading and posting on your site.
Thanks for the summaries of today’s papers.
Maybe some new house rules should be introduced such as - cutting and pasting should be no more than a few paragraphs - much better to post a link to an article if it is available online??

  6. SSS Says:

    Morning

An article in The Mirror says that KM “broke down” in Church on Sunday.

An extremely interesting in The New York Times tells of Elizabeth Stark who was taken BACK to her neighbourhood after being snatched and lived there for 9 months before being “spotted”.

Apparently this is called “missing in plain sight”!

  7. Toni Says:

SSS a bit like cant see the trees for the wood ???

morning, one break down of tears in 3.5 months not bad going

  8. matty Says:

SSS-Just read the full story of Elizabeth Smart on Wilkapedia its fasinating, especially how the man was eventually caught. Also mentioned Alexis Patterson who went missing 3rd May 2002, she is unfortunately still missing like millions of other children.

  9. Toni Says:

If Gerry had “intestinal problems” when they went to spain then maybe that was the “leaky nappy pooh” that was found in the back of the car

also, I cant believe that Maddie is missing for nearly 4 months and they havent found her, but and I mean a big BUT, they are lmore interested in the parents 2 missing hours, oh of course I get it,,,, the focus has to be on kate and gerry, they should have hired a ford focus

when will it start to clear

So she has to do it in public to your satisfaction does she? Care to suggest meals to prepare and choose her clothes for her as well.

  11. Carina Says:

There is a guy in South Africa, supt Piet Byleveld, working for the South African police. He has an almost 100% track record in solving such cases as this one. Would somebody please give the PJ this tip. Whoever did this to Madeleine should fear when they hear the name Piet Byleveld.

  12. SSS Says:

    7 ‘Lo Toni :-D

Yep something like that! Apparently whilst this girl was living a few streets from her parents, there were “sightings” all over America. The tone of the article made it seem (to me) as if this was quite common in missing children cases.

Saying that, 10 people can read the same paragraph and read 10 completely different things into it!

  13. Rosemary Says:

    6, SSS,
Wasn’t her name Elizabeth Smart. As I recall she was led by her kidnapper (who’d worked for the family, so she knew him) up a mountain path behind the house, to a makeshift shelter where she was kept for a week….what on earth were the sniffer dogs up to?!

  14. mk Says:

    nearly 5 months, isn’t it?

  15. SSS Says:

    8 Matty

I am not sure if you are aware, but May 3 seems to be a rather “creepy” date historically.

I read somewhere that another child went missing on May 3rd in 1998 (I think that was the year) and also, a little lad drowned this year on May 3rd rescuing his sister, now you mention this other girl……What is it about May 3rd??

  16. matty Says:

Rosemary ,she was kept for 9months 18 miles from home.

  17. SSS Says:

    13 Rosemary

You might be right, I am working at same time lol, and read the article about an hour and half ago very very quickly, but what struck me was the fact that this girl was living near her parents the whole time - very strange.

I wonder why no one noticed her whilst “noticing” her everywhere else?

  18. Toni Says:

    11. apparently he has been to portugal, he went after the carte blanche programme was aired, he picked up that she was still there but couldnt pin point where, and then the PJ caught up with him and told him not to interfere with the investigation

  19. Carina Says:

Oh, By the way Piet Byleveld has done some work for the FBI and for Scotland Yard successfully. That was in the papers today as he has been promoted to Director yesterday.

  20. The Real Stig Says:

    11 carina

That sounds like a brilliant idea. The only problem is the PJ are not going to do that and lose face and since there there is a whif of suspicion about them themselves, they might not want it solved except in the way that suits them.

Perhaps the McCanns could hire him in a private capacity if he took leave.

  21. matty Says:

SSS- maybe an alternate Friday 13th. However Fri 13th has no hold on me as my son was born on that date weighing 6lbs 6 1/2 0zs. So far he hasn’t proved to be devil child

  22. SSS Says:

Unfortunately, I don’t have time today, but over the weekend, I am going to try to do some research into this May 3rd thing.

It struck me the other day, then yesterday reading about this lad Jordan, and now today with Matty mentioning this other girl.

    Very curious indeed.

  23. Carina Says:

18, No, the guy who was there was the guy with the finding machine, who was on Carte Blanche.

  24. Anonymous the 1st Says:

    Morning all.

    News as I read it;

    - After the Moroccon wild goose chase instigated by Camp McCann, the police closing in on mysterious Spain trip on Aug 3rd (CCTV pictures show the teflon 2 seen in places they had “no reason to be”)

    On a seperate note;
    - Satelite images can track movement of the Griffin when he snatched Madeline on May 3rd (…..it could also track other movements….like Renault Scenics on Aug 3rd).

    On a seperate note;
    Kate is suddenly very “ill”.

    On a seperate note;
Caplan QC successfully blocked General Pinochet’s extradition due to the mass murderer’s “ill health”.

    On a seperate note;
Sir Richard Branston Pickle is an excellent self-promoter.

  25. Rosemary Says:

Also of note in the Elizabeth Smart case, her sister, with whom she shared a bedroom, SAW the abductor who kidnapped Elizabeth and held a gun to her……but she could not identify him and NO TRACES OF DNA EVIDENCE were found.

  26. Toni Says:

10, just saying if that was me i would have sent the shares in kleenex through the roof

  27. SSS Says:

    21

Matty, do you think its possible that these disappearances, on May 3rd are connected?

Before you all howl me down, this is no more unlikely than any other theory!

  28. Veres Says:

    21

Friday the 13th is considered unlucky as it’s the day the King of France ordered that all the Knights Templars be arrested. It’s nothing satanic :-).

  29. SSS Says:

    24

Blooming heck Anonymous! Any more separate notes? ;-)

    25

Good points raised there Rosemary :-)

  30. LL Cool J Says:

27 I never had you down as a numerologist SSS!
