Madeleine McCann Watch: Ben Affleck Releases

Madeleine McCann Watch: Ben Affleck ReleasesMADELEINE McCann watch: Ben Affleck, star of Gigi, Jersey Girl, one half of the straight-to-video relationship called Beniffer,  the man who uttered the line “Not anxious to die sir, just anxious to matter” as Pearl Harbor exploded, is directing his first film. It’s called gone Baby Gone.

Says Ben in the Telegraph: “Disney UK made the decision to postpone the movie but I absolutely support it and I’m pleased by what I think is erring on the side of good taste.

“There’s no rush. It’s obviously a sensitive time and if there are any similarities we can wait to distribute the movie in the UK.

“I was only vaguely aware of the Madeleine case because it wasn’t a big thing here in the United States. Maybe I’m out of it because I don’t read many newspapers, but I didn’t really know much about it until somebody said, ‘Hey, there may be some similarities’.”

That’s right. Affleck is making a film - a work of fiction - that may be a bit like the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. Ben is nothing if not sensitive.

Anyone traumatised by Afflecks’s performance in car accident movie Changing Lanes, who is a devout Christian and found Dogma offensive or who fears impending Armageddon can applaud Ben’s actions…

  1. 1 Will Says:

    first

  2. 2 Wanderer Says:

“Anyone traumatised by Afflecks’s performance in car accident movie Changing Lanes, who is a devout Christian and found Dogma offensive or who fears impending Armageddon can applaud Ben’s actions…”

Good point. This film is based on a book that was out long before the McCann thing happened as well. I think the decision is due to the McCanns may lose public support or something…or face complete public backlash (which yes, can elevate to scary levels). As long as Affleck is okay with it..

  3. 3 supergirl Says:

The decision wasn’t even made by Ben anyway !

  4. 4 susannah Says:

    Hi Will, Wanderer and Supergirl,
Why did you leave the other party?
Only 700 posts or so and here you are all on your lonesome.
Do you go back and forth, or hope that this picks up a bit.
Anyway Will, the ultimate insult in this part of the world is “jou ma se poes”…xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  5. 5 Samantha Says:

I think it is heartening at last to see that the PJ are moving in the right direction. For too long the press have fed us a pile of nonsense about dogs and DNA, fridges etc has only fed into the barrows of the type of people I would suspect that are involved in these henious crimes against humanity of child abduction, abuse etc.
Thankfully Amaral has been sent packing and hopefully the new investigator will have the strength of conviction to not be swayed by the media nonsense that has caused this operation to be so badly diverted from reality that this little girls life (assuming she maybe alive still) has been put into further danger.

  6. 6 Sherlock Says:

Samantha, what makes you think that the PJ is moving in the right direction - or indeed any direction that is significantly different from “the previous direction of the investigation”?

  7. 7 Anorak Says:

Affleck didn’t make the decision - but he’s the producer…

  8. 8 Judge Dread Says:

I do believe I’ve got what!

The McCanns read the book and decided to act it out.

  9. 9 Judge Dread Says:

Dang so much for my posh bit, that should be

I do believe I’ve got it what

  10. 10 The Usual Arguidos Says:

This film sounds like a case of art imitating fiction.

  11. 11 Jolie Says:

    Samantha

The head of the PJ has already publicly stated in the last day or so that they still consider Mr. and Mrs. McCann to be suspects and they are the main focus of the investigation into Madeleine’s disappearance.

    QUOTE
The parents of Madeleine McCann remain the chief suspects in her disappearance.

Portugal’s most senior police officer made this clear yesterday as he introduced the new detective brought in to head the hunt.

Police chief Alipio Ribeiro said all lines of inquiry remained open, but he emphasised: “The investigation will continue to proceed along the lines it has proceeded until now.”

    Nothing has changed, yet.

  12. 12 Judge Dread Says:

Madeleine’s parent and Gerry McCann, sheese what next.

If someone found the biological father and it was not Gerry, then who was it. I believe that as we have given so much time to this case, we have a right to know.

  13. 13 Pray For Little Soul Says:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=487239&in_page_id=1770

i think we’re heading towards conclusion.

  14. 14 Ian Says:

    Samantha,

Are you on the same planet as the rest of us?

You’ll be telling us that leaving three little kids alone in an unlocked apartment in a foreign country isnt neglect next!

  15. 15 Ian Says:

I still think Gerry is her dad, she has the mccanns features (poor thing).

I’m not so sure about the egg doner though….

  16. 16 Wanderer Says:

He didn’t make the decision, but he could have complained about it (to the press). “This is tosh, this is my work of art!” and gone off into a strop…or just said he was “disappointed” with the company’s decision, accused Mickey of being off his rocker, etc.

  17. 17 Murder Says:

This is such old ‘news’. The film was pulled in the UK a month ago…

I then posted (here at Anorak) a link to the trailer, and informed everyone that - as Samantha nobly insists - Maddie is alive and well… and working in Hollywood (where she ran off, like many girls disappointed with home life) under the name of her biological father, O’Brien - which brings us round to today’s main story - also very old news, which is why I haven’t been visiting this site recently.

  18. 18 Wanderer Says:

I remember that Murder, you’re the reason I even found out about the film (which to the best of my knowledge is still being released in the US and elsewhere). I hope you don’t stop visiting altogether..

  19. 19 Anorak Says:

    Affleck to play Gerry?

  20. 20 Mike Hondemburst Says:

    Good evening ladies.

  21. 21 Larice Says:

“Art imitating fiction”???? Art = fiction!
And the book which inspired the film was published a few years ago.

  22. 22 jcb Says:

Samantha - 2.44 pm. I wouldn’t bother trying to start a sensible conversation with the people who post on this forum, they seem to flit from one to another, making stupid comments not even related to Madeleine and the McCanns. They really should grow up and look at this situation in a more serious frame of mind instead of making fun of an extremely serious situation. These children should go to ask their mummies what abduction means, and the consequences of it. Then perhaps when it is explained to them properly they wouldn’t be so flippant. There is a real child involved here, who is God knows where, with God knows who, doing God knows what. Just use your imagination you morons and take a break from your idiotic remarks!!!!

  23. 23 Wanderer Says:

To start a sensible conversation, it would be good not to generalize or insult people (but I guess it works when you wish to easily pass judgment?). There is some satire in some of the comments, but this is a satirical forum. I think everyone realize how serious a situation this is and understand what abduction is.

The point is, they aren’t releasing this film as it may impact the case. Probably in a widespread “turn against the McCanns” way, which, no one really needs at this point, especially as such things can get quite out of hand (no matter what happened/whomever is guilty).

“They will have to risk everything-their relationships, their sanity, and their lives, to find a little girl-lost” (part of the film’s description). If you want to educate us so much, perhaps you should write to get the film released or do you agree with those flippant and childish remarks that this could seriously hurt the public’s perception of the McCanns and that, because of the public’s ease of outrage, it may not be such a good idea? You can claim that the forums are already quite anti-McCanns already, but I don’t think the forums give quite a good perception of what the majority believe in the US/UK and elsewhere. Maybe not, better go check with my mummy!

  24. 24 Trust me, I'm a doctor... Says:

    Lest we forget…
    The other suspect:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7042451.stm

“Briton Robert Murat has said it is time for him to be cleared in the case of missing four-year-old Madeleine McCann.
Mr Murat, 33, says he has not heard from Portuguese detectives for two months and told the BBC the situation was “very, very difficult”.

He was named an official suspect - or “arguido” - by police five months ago.

Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry McCann, of Rothley, Leics, are also official suspects. Madeleine vanished from Praia da Luz on 3 May.

    ‘No evidence’

Mr Murat told BBC News: “It’s been five months, my savings have gone, mum’s doing what she can, and it’s just very, very difficult.”

    ARGUIDO STATUS
    Officially a suspect
Bestowed by police or requested by individual
    Right to remain silent
    Right to a lawyer
Must report to police every five days

His relative, Sally Eveleigh, added: “There’s no evidence against him, he hasn’t seen his daughter for over five months, he has no finances now - all his savings have gone - and he needs to rebuild his life. His life is on hold.”

Mr Murat’s family are hopeful there will be a reassessment of his status following the appointment of a new head of the inquiry in Portugal.

Paulo Rebelo, the deputy national director of Portuguese police, replaces Goncalo Amaral, apparently removed for criticising UK police.

Arguido status means the police have more powers but it also gives more rights to the suspect.”

Nice to hear that last point mentioned: “Arguido status … gives more rights to the suspect.” So what are Gerry and Kate moaning about? Methinks they doth protest too much.

  25. 25 Karalyn Says:

Irma’s on drugs again! What a wacko jacko that thing is!

I thought a venomous snake had a sharp tongue - Irma gives new meaning to the venom and tongue combo. Nasty thing! (shudders)

  26. 26 on2u Says:

With the abduction theory in mind. Is there anyone searching for Madeleine? If they are then why are the McCann’s not issueing statements
as to the progress of the search. Are they not allowed by law to talk about this?? Then why are we discussing everything else pertaining to “THEM”

  27. 27 clynne Says:

.GERRY McCANN IS THE BIOLOGICAL FATHER OF HIS 4 YEARS OLD DAUGHTER MADELEINE AND SHE LOOKS TOO MUCH LIKE HER DADDY GERRY AND HER MUMMY KATE FOR THIS TO BE TRUE ….

    .LEAVE THEM ALONE !

    GERRY IS MADELEINE’S REAL FATHER…

    PLEASE BRING HER BACK SOON

  28. 28 Robbin Says:

Within few weeks the Mccanns will be quizzed again. What about you, people, sending them emails (address on findmadeleine.com) begging them to be honest and to tell the truth?
The girl diserves a grave, doesn’t she?
And everybody knows already that the parents are guilty.

  29. 29 Robbin Says:

Why al the comments about Gerry being her father or not?
It is not of our business.

  30. 30 Andrew Says:

It is our business. We’re nosey.
