Madeleine McCann: Pacheco Deceived, Anne Enright Accuses And The Mail’s Underage Sex
MADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – POLICE TRYING TO MAKE KATE CRACK”
Police are exerting “pressure” on Kate McCann. Portuguese police are to reconstruct the night of Madeleine’s disappearance in the style of TV’s Crimewatch, with the focus on the mother
Page 5: “Priest: I was deceived” – Father Jose Manuel Pacheco says “I was deceived”. He “finally broke his silence”. Says he: “I was deceived. I was just doing my job supporting lost souls. I would do that again with any family who were in their situation. I didn’t do anything wrong”
But deceived? In what way? Readers learn his mistake had been in forming a “close bond with the couple”
“Booker author’s dislike’” – Booker prize winner Anne Enright says she disliked Kate and Gerry McCanns “earlier than most people”. Writing in the London Review of Books, Enright notes: “I thought I was angry with them for leaving their children alone.”
Enright is a “mother of two small children”. She can empathise less as a writer than as a parent. But: “In fact I was angry at their failure to accept that their daughter was probably dead.” Look out for Enright’s next work: Me & Maddie
DAILY MAIL front page: “Five top British crime experts went to Portugal to examine the Maddie case. What is their verdict…?”
A verdict? No body. No arrest made. No court case. Just a verdict. And from “crime experts”…
Pages 18 and 19: “THE MADDIE FILES – Five of Britain’s top crime experts were sent to Portugal to give their verdicts on the McCann case. Here they reveal their deeply disturbing conclusions…”
Who sent these sleuths? The British police? Richard Branson? The Pope? No – Channel 4’s Dispatches. The Madeleine McCann mystery is a media circus, so what more fitting than the TV as a courtroom and arbiter of justice?
The Mail’s Roger Graef presides. He says that under Portuguese law, the age of consent is 13 (“between couples of the same age”). It’s not, yer honour. It is 14. “Portugal has many more paedophiles than it cares to admit.” How many? We do not know. It pains Graef to divulge the hideous details. But there have been two cases of child abduction in the past 15 years over there
The crackers are THE CRIMINAL PROFILER (David Canter), THE SEARCH EXPERT (Gary Lig), THE FORENSIC ANALYST (David Barclay), THE SOHAM DETECTIVE (Chris Stevenson) and THE MEDIA HANDLER (Matt Tapp).
They unearth no new clues, no new evidence, no new ideas. But they get to be on the telly and in the papers. And then they return to the UK to crack other cases, like the murder of Rhys Jones, the whereabouts of Suzy Lamplugh, the capture of Osama bin Laden, the wheabout of the UK’s most wanted Paul Bures “wanted in relation to multiple charges of Rape and Sexual assault on male children aged 13-16 years. He currently resides in Spain”) and…
THE MIRROR front page: “Maddy case is probed by Soham cop” - Former Detective Chief Superintendent Chris Stevenson, “the man who caught Soham killer Ian Huntely”, is advancing his media career
THE SUN front page: “Soham chief in Maddie cop rap” – Stevenson of the Media says the Portuguese police were “totally ill equipped” to handle the case
Page 8: “MADDIE PROBE IS TOO BIG FOR PORTUGAL COPS – Soham chief blasts ‘too slow’ force”. Is this why the British police sent dogs and helped with forensic tests?
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE PARENTS HID TRUTH – Priest reveals McCanns’ deceit”
Pages 6 and 7: “McCANNS DECEIVED ME – I wish I’d never given them key to the church.” Father Pacheco has been told of by his bishop for getting too close to the McCanns
DAILY TELEGRAPH front page: Pictures of Kate McCann and Booker prize winner – and mother – Anne Enright. A caption: “Kate McCann avoids the worst of Anne Enright’s criticism although the author says ‘disliking the McCanns is an international sport’”
Page 3: In her essay Disliking The McCanns, Enright notes: “I find Gerry’s need to ‘influence the investigation’ more provoking than her [Kate’s] flat sadness, or the very occasional glimpse of wounded narcissism that flecks her public appearance… The language he uses is more appropriate to a corporate executive than to a desperate father…But we are all used to the idea of corporations lying to us…”
Mrs Enright has not been to Portugal to work on the case. Not yet
THE TIMES pages 6 and 7: “‘It is time to discard the myths and half-truths. She was taken.’” So says David Canter.

I couldn’t understand some parts of this article Madeleine McCann: Pacheco Deceived, Anne Enright Accuses And The Mail’s Underage Sex, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.

[...] Anne Enright, Booker prize winner, has made comment son Gerry and Kate McCanns. Liz hutn has read them: “Kate McCann’s face and figure have always been a factor in this story. Indeed, the only obstacle to a new picture of Kate making the front pages is a new CCTV grab of another tortured blonde in another ongoing soap opera, The Diana Inquest. The camera loves them both” [...]

Stevo:
Could we please have a photo of a cadaver dog running off with Kate’s diary with Kate and Gerry in hot pursuit, followed by the priest carrying his sick mother over one shoulder and a naked altar boy over the other ?
Thanks In Advance.

Soothsayer, people were wondering (re: Scarlett post yesterday), what your current theory is on the case. I am only asking because it came up frequently today, also that you don’t ‘agree’ with Scarlett, correct?
I think Taybie was the only one who tried to clarify it for others. Anyway, I’m just asking because your name crept into the conversation quite a bit today, and your theory may have changed?

Taybie the Saxon Says:
October 18th, 2007 at 11:33 pm
I think I am nearer understanding Soothsayer’s theory about Fr Pacheco. What Soothsayer I think is hinting at is that on the evening of May 3rd Maddy’s body was hidden in consecrated ground in PDL. This explains why Fr Pacheco can say he is “deceived” or “disappointed” while at the same time saying he would rather cut his tongue out than reveal what is said in a confession. We have all latched on to the possibility of someone making a confession, official or otherwise, to Fr Pacheco whereas what he is really annoyed about is someone misusing sacred ground and manipulating him (as he now sees it after info he has been given.)
Not sure if Soothsayer thinks that the body is still in PDL or whether it was moved later (in the Scenic? to Spain?). Guess this would follow - i.e. the PJ now know where the body WAS hidden but it’s gone now. Moving the body over any kind of distance would have been an audacious operation indeed and I can’t see how the McCanns could have done it.
This is all just my theory about someone else’s theory - I don’t claim to be “in the know”, just for the record.
Soothsayer tends to ignore my posts but maybe one of his confederates can put this to him.”
Anyway, have a good morning/afternoon/evening (well late afternoon).

no matter what trash and inventive reporting you read in the papers, about lack of evidence or such nonsense, you can rest assured that the guilty will not escape justice.

Kris wrote: “I’m afraid you’re the one not using your head.”
You are obscuring (with needless inflammatory personal remarks, and deliberate artifice) the issue raised, which is that the McCann’s refusal to provide recnt photos indicates they are attempting to conceal information that would have been revealed in such photos. I suggested that people “use your head” on this point, not on the point of doctoring one of 2 photos that were provided.
Kris: “So , if the McCanns were trying to doctor a photo, they would be trying to PROVE their daughter was alive at 1:29 p.m. on May 3, right? Can you give me any other reason they would be trying to doctor a photo, what else they might be trying to prove? ”
On this issue, I already noted that they may have been trying to falsely establish a specific location for the girl or picture-taker. Or their may be no other reason than they did not want to show any of the real photos taken that day, and therefore provided a fake one.
“And yes, I can assure you, the police are not relying on a time/date stamp from a digital camera to confirm Madeleine was alive at that point. ”
You cannot assure anyone of anything regarding the police. Besides, I never said they were using the photo for that purpose. You’re the one who brought in that stupid idea, not me.
“All this talk about the photo is so unbelievably pointless, and proves nothing either way. But that is just like Stevo, our Anorak Brainiac, to waste so much time on this. I read yesterday that he actually sent his analysis to the PJ. I thought I’d die laughing.”
I guess you can “assure” us that the PJ is laughing too. Though by itself, nothing is “proved” it is certainly suspicious that the McCanns provided only 2 recent photos of Madeleine — when they must have had many more.
As Stevo pointed out, many of the photos used in the “search for Madeleine” were very old. This is yet another indication (of many) that the McCanns efforts to find the girl were just a scam to
1)raise money
2)deflect guilt
If they had really wanted people to instantly recognize Madeleine, they would have provided many up-to-date photos taken by their own camera.
If that still does not make sense to you, I’d guess you’re a Team McCann player here to sling personal insults. Good luck with it.

Actually, I believe Stevo is an attorney because he has that highly irritating quality of believing that he has superior reasoning powers … It’s a certain kind of arrogance that you see frequently in lawyers. I’m not a fan.
October 19th, 2007 at 5:27 am
Well, it’s been fun!! But i gotta hit the sack..See ya later Krissie!!! Bet we’ll see many Stevo and Tony Bennet postings MANANA
October 19th, 2007 at 5:24 am
Stevo. What do you think i should do with myself??
Stevo says: Flush your head down the toilet.
OK whatever you say stevo..Thanks again
October 19th, 2007 at 5:23 am
Hmmm, Yourman, I think I know who you are!!!
Hah!
October 19th, 2007 at 5:21 am
What I want to know is, who did SPUDGUN become?
October 19th, 2007 at 5:20 am
STEVO is actually a Butch pretending to be a lawyer. I swear, everyone thinks he’s The ANORAK MD..
October 19th, 2007 at 5:20 am
Three ofyou, really??? Sheesh. I gave that up when they changed the format here… it’s way too much work to switch back and forth now.
Let’s see, could you be… Ade? Mike Littorice?
October 19th, 2007 at 5:19 am
Yourman, I have to wonder how many aliases some people here have. I don’t know who you are at the moment, keep typing, maybe it will occur to me.
October 19th, 2007 at 5:18 am
There are 3 of me
October 19th, 2007 at 5:18 am
I’m afraid you’re the one not using your head. Let’s see, on May 3 Madeleine was either:
A) Already Dead, or
B) At the Mark Warner Ocean Club Resort.
I think that’s correct, right? There’s no real C) possible, is there?
So , if the McCanns were trying to doctor a photo, they would be trying to PROVE their daughter was alive at 1:29 p.m. on May 3, right? Can you give me any other reason they would be trying to doctor a photo, what else they might be trying to prove?
And yes, I can assure you, the police are not relying on a time/date stamp from a digital camera to confirm Madeleine was alive at that point. They might rely on witness statements, people who actually SAW her, but as much as they have messed up the investigation, they are not stupid, and they surely know that a time/date stamp on a camera is easily changed. Of course they are not using that as any kind of real evidence Madeleine was alive at that point.
All this talk about the photo is so unbelievably pointless, and proves nothing either way. But that is just like Stevo, our Anorak Brainiac, to waste so much time on this. I read yesterday that he actually sent his analysis to the PJ. I thought I’d die laughing.
October 19th, 2007 at 5:17 am
I can’t say who I really am, but you know who I am!!
October 19th, 2007 at 5:15 am
LOL..Krissie I LOVE YOU!!! IT IS YOU
October 19th, 2007 at 5:14 am
I find it very disturbing that Kate does not look into the camera when she is being interviewed..Maybe she is a shy woman, but her body language definitely tells me she’s hiding something. NO she can’t be SHY..She thinks everyone is against her because she is soo “HOT”…LOL
Gerry, on the other hand, has shown confidence. Their emotions don’t convince me that they are grieving for an “abducted” daughter. They look like they are experiencing guilt more than anything
October 19th, 2007 at 5:13 am
I’m so glad I’m no longer having terrible gut reactions to this case. I’m finally desensitized! Soon, I can move on with my life and let you true loonies work out the details of who did it, and why. My vote is still on O’Brien, by the way, over the McCanns.
October 19th, 2007 at 5:12 am
Kris: ” I assure you the police are not using a time/date stamp from a digital camera as proof Madeleine was alive at 1:29 p.m.”
You are in no position to assure anyone of anything. But the point is that the time stamp may have been altered for reasons other than “proving” that she was alive, such as (just one example) providing evidence of her whereabouts on that day.
NO OTHER RECENT photos were taken or shown, because the McCanns did not want to reveal information — their whole behavior pattern throughout this. They are hiding something by not showing the most recent photos. That is so obvious that you should need no assurances from me. Use your head.
October 19th, 2007 at 5:11 am
Yes, they are completely working backwards. They don’t have the scientific case nailed down, so they are trying to beef up their circumstantial case in hopes someone will “Crack” and confess, or something. I don’t know, but they messed up. And their attempts to scare a confession out of people seems to be failing. This is why I say: There’s no net closing in here. And we’ll probably never know what happened to Madeleine.
October 19th, 2007 at 5:09 am
David Yourman, and tell us, what are your aliases on Anorak? Obviously you have at least one other name.
October 19th, 2007 at 5:08 am
I must agree with you Kris!! Pj has admitted that they have no evidence against the Mccanns’ to charge them..They recently took Kate’s diary..5 months too late..It seems like PJ is working backwards. They may be innocent for all we know. I do think they are guilty, but I don’t think that they will ever get charged. I think K&G know that Madeleine’s body will never be found. That is why they challenge the police by saying “Find her body to prove we did it”
October 19th, 2007 at 5:08 am
No, Krissie and I are no longer the same person, although I saw a few Krissie posts from today (scrolling through) and don’t necessarily disagree with her. I don’t think there is much evidence against the McCanns at this point, nor do I think there’s any evidence at all for the abduction. I do hope the PJ knows more than we think they know, if they are pursuing this line of investigation with such intensity.
October 19th, 2007 at 5:05 am
Hideki, it’s fairly standard. Go look at any prominent missing kid case. They typically only release a half-dozen. The McCanns have released more than a dozen photos of Madeleine. Why do you think they should have released more?
October 19th, 2007 at 5:04 am
Maybe that’s all that is needed to get the word out that she’s missing.
