Madeleine McCann: Gordon Brown Investigates, Gerry McCann’s ‘Fears’ And A Ghost

gordon-brown-madeleine-mccann Madeleine McCann: Gordon Brown Investigates, Gerry McCanns Fears And A GhostMADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann

DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – GERRY’S FEARS FOR KATE HOURS BEFORE DISAPPEARANCE”

“Heart consultant” Gerry McCann was “allegedly concerned about his wife Kate’s state of mind” on the night Madeleine vanished. Gerry is said to have spoken about “part-time GP” Kate with “fellow medic” David Payne as Gerry was having a tennis lesson

Page 7: A source says: “David Payne saw Madeleine at around 6:30pm. He popped in because Gerry wanted to make sure Kate was OK”. Says Mr Payne, who has known the McCanns for five years: “I have never witnessed anything untoward in all that time”

“Madeleine visits me at night says ‘hysterical’ Kate” – Susan Healy, Kate’s mother, says probably once or twice a day her daughter is “absolutely devastated, hysterical, bereft”. “I asked her, did the twins come and wake you up? Sometimes they get into bed with Kate. ‘No,’ she said. ‘Madeleine came’”

“Brown’s plea to Portugal” – Gordon Brown is in Lisbon and due to meet Portuguese Prime minister Jose Socrates. He says: “I will discuss the issue”. Gordon Brown PI

DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE GHOST VISITS MUM”

Page 10: “Mum’s Maddie ghost anguish” – Kate McCann is an “anguished GP”. Readers are assured by a family “pal” that Kate is suffering

“SUSPECTS FOR REST OF LIVES” – The Star has seen the Channel 4 Dispatches programme on their daughter’s case. The five media-friendly sleuths failed to crack the case. Next week the Coronation Street writers have a go

THE SUN page 27: “CLEAR US, MADDIE PARENTS TELL COPS” – Kate and Gerry are “angry”. A “high-raking source” in the Portuguese police says: “Nothing which allows us to make a definite accusation against them has emerged.” Some news. Might this be why they have not been arrested?

DAILY MAIL page 32: “Brown quizzes Portuguese PM over Madeleine” – Is Mr Socrates a suspect? Gordon Brown is Columbo. Just one more thing, sir…

DAILY MIRROR page 11: “GERRY ASKED PAL TOP CHECK ON KATE – Police probe mental state”

Says Mr Payne: “Kate is a fantastic mum. She can cope. She is a very able person”. Such is the news

“COP: NO PROOF ON McCANNS” – The McCanns have not been arrested. Says Clarence Mitchell: “If this is true, Kate and Gerry should be eliminated from the inquiry”. But the police are still looking. All avenues of inquiry remain open. No evidence. Or no evidence yet?

DAILY TELEGRAPH page 9: “Madeleine’s mother ‘breaks down in hysterics every day’”

THE INDEPENDENT, THE GUARDIAN and THE TIMES: No Madeleine news today

  1. 1 mk Says:

    N0 1?

  2. 2 SteveT Says:

No.2? - God we are sad!!!!

  3. 3 Hideki Says:

    Very bizarre.

Suddenly Susan Healy, Kate’s mother, is shooting into prominence by shooting off her mouth. From her we have learned that Kate thinks the public blames her because she is a hot babe, and now from her we learn that Madeleine’s ghost apparently blames Kate too.

Offering up the bit on “Gerry’s worry” — how he wanted to “check up” on Kate because of some undisclosed “mental state”… hmmm… does all this mean that the McCanns are planning to deal with the upcoming onslaught of irrefutable evidence with some kind of insanity plea?

They will say Kate was off her rocker when she killed Madeleine? Gerry will then claim he knew nothing about how she and accomplices whisked the corpse from place to place?

And this is all the McCanns can come up with , despite having a mighty PR machine manned by Clarence Mitchell!!!

It’s looking like their defense will be that Kate is absolutely nuts. She killed Madeleine but convinced herself that she did not. But now, oh, how she is suffering… maybe they will start a Save Kate’s Soul fund?…

  4. 4 JuneJohnson Says:

I suggest the Anorak regulars have a go for Dispatches

  5. 5 Batman Says:

    Morning all.

  6. 6 SteveT Says:

    Hideki,

I agree with your comments. There is no way that these stories are getting out without Team McCann sanctioning them.
We will obviously feel very sorry for Kate, and once she is in a straight jacket, Gerry will be clear to keep the twins and bleed the publics sympathy.

Gordon - Keep out! Get Tony back to deal with it. Make him the the special peace envoy for Portugal to repair any damage that the McCanns have done.

PJ - Please tell us who was with the McCanns at the Tapas bar.

  7. 7 Will Says:

Good morning porkers, creationists and addicted xxxxx

  8. 8 susannah Says:

    Good morning all.
What can I say, I let go of one addiction and immediately replace it with another.
At least this one just messes up the mind, but leaves the body regularly intact.

  9. 9 BabyJane Says:

Good morning from the continent, crime consultants and fellow investigators!

  10. 10 brianthesnail Says:

message for gordon brown……there are thousands of kids missing in the UK what exactly are you doing about them.? F#ck all i suspect, so why are you intervening in this case. You should try repairing the damage you have done to this country and then try to repair the damage the mccanns have done to british-portuguese relations. Now either do your job or call a f#cking election so we can get rid of your waste of space fat arse.

  11. 11 Batman Says:

    Baby - morgen! Wie geht’s?

  12. 12 Stickler Says:

You are reading the wrong story today. The Southampton Catnapper (a “monster”) is the big issue. Instead of the Tapas 9 we have the Kittykat 7. One of the owners has children named Abigail, Holly and Amos. The Daily Mail has an aerial photograph of Bramley Crescent.

Will Amos’s Mum contact Max Clifford? Will Richard Branson offer his support? Do we detect the hidden hand of The Duke of Edinburgh? Come on Anorakeers, see if you can crack this one by lunchtime.

  13. 13 Ian Says:

    10 - Brian, lol!

So, how long now before the Mccanns get let off? Surely Gordon has asked for the Police to charge them or take the suspect status off …then they (the Tapas 9) will still say they can’t say anything ‘because of Portugals secrecy laws’…hiding behind anything that stops the exposure of the real unbelievable neglect of their children.

The one thing that documentary showed was how creepy and dark that apartment was at night and why is it so incredible that these parents actually left their little ones in a room there all alone. Yet they still claim they are a tight family unit and how oh so loving and adoring they were of Madeleine, ludicrous claptrap. Well, off to work now, see you later!

  14. 14 BabyJane Says:

Liebe/Lieber Batman, danke, gut, war gerade beim Zahnarzt! :-)
Ich hoffe, bei dir ist auch alles ok!
    —————–

24horas headline: “McCann tiraram coisas do apartamento na notte fatal”

    “tiraram” must be “they took”
    “coisas” = things, items

  15. 15 Batman Says:

    13 - Ian

Hope Gordon also talked about the third ‘arguido’ Murat as well. Murat has a daughter living in the UK, so her welfare would be just as important as the McCanns surely!!!!!!!

Does the man on the street not think this Gordon Brown angle very strange?

    —————————–

    Mods and Admin

When the event occured Gordon Brown was NOT PM, and possibly he thought it would all blow over? he hasn’t been in constant touch with the McCanns though, just one or two calls, and perhaps the McCanns rang him?
To be honest I think he is as involved as much as the Pope is, but it IS a very delicate diplomatic situation between the UK and Portugal, and that is probably where his concerns lie?

  16. 16 brianthesnail Says:

    12

OMG you dont think they will try to take cuddle cat do you????

  17. 17 Batman Says:

    14 Baby.

Geht’s mir gut, danke. Ein Zahnarztbesuch ist nie lustig, du arme.

Now in case people start accusing me of Baby-snatching - we will continue in English.
You clearly speak Portuguese as well as English and German.

What/when does 24 Horas say they took things?

  18. 18 brianthesnail Says:

    15
i’ve just been out and the man on the street he says YES

  19. 19 Batman Says:

    16 :-)

  20. 20 Ian Says:

There was this guy in the street just now, I asked him and he started mumbling about Del Monte….

Its an appalling indictment of the Labour Party, making such a fuss of these leeches on the sickness of the rich. Once a socialist party and now….who knows what they are.

  21. 21 toni.b Says:

morning from sunny SA, what are we spinning today, labour pains by the looks of it

  22. 22 matty Says:

What warrants a missing child more worthy of media, public attention over another missing child? What makes one case stand out over another? JonBenet Ramsey- found straight away, parents suspects. Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman- found after 13 days, parents not suspect. Madeleine McCann-still missing, parents suspects. I understand with Madeleine the fund and campaign make it stand out but it has run and run to the point of full length programmes being dedicated to this case. As has been said, millions of children go missing, what makes one case different to the next?

  23. 23 slyfox Says:

    Morning all

This is the best I can do with online translation site

    24Horas intro

In the night of the disappearance of Maddie, the McCan had been changed for another house. A gesture that, admits the policy now, can have extinguished basic vestiges for the inquiry… Reads more

  24. 24 Batman Says:

I can’t remember who was in power during the famous Louise Woodward case in the US, but I doubt that the PM at that time was zipping off to the White House to have a quiet word. Just think this particular angle will raise the smell-a-fish-ometer up for those who are still uncomfortably perched on the fence.

  25. 25 mk Says:

That 24 horas headline translates to

McCann removed things from apartment on the fatal night
    (I tihnk)

  26. 26 BabyJane Says:

    17

Unfortunately I don’t speak Portuguese, Batman. Just trying to figure out what it could all mean with the help of dictionaries.
    http://www.freedict.com/onldict/por.html

24horas says they took things from the apartment “na notte fatal”. Could that be “in the fatal/tragic night”?

  27. 27 susannah Says:

I personally do not believe anything the papers tell me.
I doubt the leaders spent more than 5 minutes discussing the Mc’s.
The meeting was no doubt about the EU treaty and perhaps the last minute Mr Socrates called Brown away from all the courtiers and basically cleared his throat and said
‘ummmm basically these people have taken a sexual departure. In other words Mr Brown they are fucked. And as much as you would like me to shut it up or sweep it under the carpet, I could not be bothered, so just go and deal with your people who are baying for blood.
Nice meeting you, hope I don’t have to do it again any time soon.
Enjoy the rest of your life. Good bye.

  28. 28 susannah Says:

    21 toni b.
    Like it.
Please tell me what LOL means.
Does it mean laugh out loud?

  29. 29 The Spanish Inquisition Says:

    14. Tiraram looks more like “They threw” Coisas = Things.

Looks more like “They threw things around the apartment” on the night in question to me. Evidence of a struggle?

  30. 30 Rationalist Says:

This ‘mystery’ is basically a f***k up on the part of the local police who were obviously ill-prepared for a crime of this nature. It’s a quiet provincial beach town frequented by tourists, very similar no doubt to where I live in France. This case has the creepiness of paedophilia about it. This little girl, engaging and enchanting and animated, even in the still photos, has something of the poor little Jon Benet Ramsay about her. Some weirdo, some creep, could have been watching her, in the complex, and become obsessed with her. Watched the family from a distance, every day. It could have been someone staying in the same building watching the Tapas bar. The behaviour of the parents could be more likely be explained by being in denial, and feeling guilty for leaving the children alone. They can’t believe she is dead, because they need to believe she’s alive. Hence all the religion and the campaigning, all of which points to frantic attempts at self-delusion. Everyone tries to find a way of coping with something too awful to deal with. Maybe I’m wrong! But the story makes more sense emotionally.
