Madeleine McCann: A Shower Curtain, Kate’s Church Whispers And The Blonde Of Karia Ba Mohamed

mccannpony Madeleine McCann: A Shower Curtain, Kates Church Whispers And The Blonde Of Karia Ba Mohamed MADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann

DAILY MIRROR front page: “MADELEINE DNA IN BAG OF CLOTHES. Roadside find fuels hops she’s still alive”

Plastic bag near Faro airport. The “adult fleece” therein is “smeared with body fluids”. Which may explain why it was thrown away. Perhaps it was used to wipe something in an emergency? The residue is a “moderate” link to the missing child.

Says a friend of the McCanns: “This seems extremely significant. The fact they were found so recently does suggest Madeleine is still alive”

Pages 6 and 7: “IN THE BAG.” Yes, what’s in the bag. For those of you who didn’t read Anorak yesterday: “Shower curtain, white flannel, green elastic band, green child’s T-shirt, Pencil case”.

And “crucially” a pair of “adult jeans”. Although the Mirror does not put that in the list, nor the fleece. Why not?

The stuff is at the Forensic Science Service lab in Birmingham. It is being checked against “a list of known sex offenders”.

“SILENT SOBS AND PRAYERS” – “Outside, the chill autumn night was filled with the sounds of happy families celebrating Guy Fawkes” – Burn the Catholic!

“Inside the brightly lit parish church of St John, Kate McCann [Catholic![ silently sobbed as she relived a warm spring Portuguese evening”

DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – FARM TO BE SEARCHED AFTER NEW SIGHTINGS”

A farm in the Rif Mountains of Morocco. The town of Karia Ba Mohamed is close by. A “little blonde girl” has been seen. Says “teacher” Majiod Jazouli: “The little blonde girl was seen about a month ago at a farm on the outskirts of Karia. I sent a boy inside the compound to verify it, and he said there was a blonde girl there. I could not go in there myself because I am a stranger and that would be against our culture”

Oh…

Pages 4 and 5: “Says local police commander Commandant Abdul Khalik: “She is not there. We have checked for her”

Says the Express: “Karia Ba Mohamed is a farming town where blonde hair and Western faces are rarely seen” – Unless the Berbers are in town

“Chase for £1million Madeleine bounty” – Millionaire Brian Kennedy has put up a reward. “Unofficial tourist guides, off-duty policemen and drug dealers” are looking for Madeleine. All other Moroccans are nervous

Says local guide Ali El Bouazaout “exclusively” to the Express: “I have been all over Morocco looking for Madeleine…and if I find her I will be rich”

A blonde child with hair of spun gold

THE SUN page 6: “I JUST WANT HER BACK..Kate sobs in church”

“Tormented” Kate McCann is in church. She is in “floods of tears”. Kate “buried her head into a females friend’s shoulder whispering through the tears: I just want her back. I just want her back”

The Sun listens in. Closely. It hears all

“POLICE IN TAPAS PALS BOOZE QUIZ” – Portuguese police are questioning witnesses on how much booze the McCanns and their dining companions drank that night. A source says after martinis, daiquiris and beer, they quaffed up to 14 bottles of wine. Is that all these middle-class Britishers on holiday in the sun could manage?

DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE MUM ORGY FURY”

Pages 4 and 5: “COPS PROBE SEX SMEARS – Couple in fury over ‘swinging’ rumours”

Former police inspector Jose Barra da Costa wants police to investigate allegations of wife-swapping

Says Clarence Mitchell: “It is obviously defamatory and he – and all those who spread rumours like this – had better be aware that our lawyers are watching”

A newspaper has sent “undercover investigators” to a swinging club to ask in anyone knows the McCanns, or any part of them (squint)

DAILY MAIL front page: “POLICE HOLD DNA OF 4.5M BRITONS” – Did you drop a bag of old clothes in Faro?

Page 19: “Madeleine case police ask: Were parents drunk?”

The curse of the middle-class drinkers?

Kate and Gerry McCann claim they and their friends ordered six bottles of wine with their meal and liqueur after. Waiter Jose Baptista says it was eight to ten bottles.

THE TIMES page 25: “McCanns give police list of names to interrogate”

The McCanns, through their lawyers, have given police a list of people they want questioned, including their seven dining companions. They suspect them of doing wrong?

No. A source says: “These people can prove that Madeleine’s parents would not have been involved in her abduction and could provide evidence about who took their daughter”

Dr Watson, I have investigated the posts attributed to ’soothsayer’ that you mentioned on yesterday’s thread, which you said were numbered 704, 708 and 711.

The numbers have been changed slightly since then.

My analysis of posts around that time - all attributed to ’soothsayer’ - is as follows:-

    Posts 669, 685, 694, 702, 706 and 713 are all the genuine ’soothsayer’.

    But 710 is not ’soothsayer’.

‘Soothsayer’ was very adamant that the box containing Baby Grace was found on an uninhabited island.

This contradicts most of the press reports, like this one:

    QUOTE

Sketches were released Friday of the child whose body was stuffed into a storage bin and found floating in Galveston Bay.

“We’re sorting through a lot of leads,” said Major Ray Tuttoilmondo with the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office. “Nothing has hit a home run yet.”

Tuttoilmondo added that several callers said they believe the child’s body, which was discovered by a fisherman late Monday, may be that of Madeleine McCann, a 4-year-old British girl whose disappearance from a resort hotel in Portugal in May has made international headlines. In September, Portuguese police formally identified Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry McCann as suspects in the case.

“Based on the totality of the circumstances, we do not believe it’s her (Madeleine).”

    UNQUOTE

Another report says the box was ‘washed ashore’.

I’m not sure, though, that it makes that much difference whether it was found at sea or was ‘washed ashore’.

I think Baby Grace was probably murdered in a fit of rage and her clothed body placed in a box and thrown out to sea. I hope the perpetrator is found and jailed

She made a very sorrowful speech about how horrible we’d all become, and how futile posting was and then she left forever - unless she’s back as someone else.

    The other Doctor Watson

Who cares if the McCanns do have no case to answer - they’re part of mythology now, we can continue to speculate for the rest of our lives.

    4 The Other Dr Watson

Taken from exactly which “source” today?

The Daily Wail or the Daily Excess?

Some other respected purveyor of news to the discerning?

Or just a perceptive guess on your part following a sharp analysis of the case to date with Holmes?

Could well be right but I’d like to know whence that judgement comes!

  13. 13 Demons r4ever Says:

If being blonde haired and blue eyed is a dream …. I’d rather stick to having nightmares thanks.

  14. 14 Anna Says:

Why would the amount her parents were drinking be relevant? If Kate and Gerry were drunk would it make them more or less likely to be involved in any way? Strange logic which would have to be applied to all people in bars in the area at the time.

  15. 15 Maria Says:

    13 Anna

Exactly. In any case, if anything at all in the papers is to be believed (well…perhaps not!) the waiter who served them insisted a couple of weeks ago in the interviews reported in the Wail and the Excess that they were “very sensible” in their drinking. He actually drew not-very-flattering comparisons between them and other British drinkers.

There has never been any suggestion from other tourists that night, or from the first police officers to arrive on the scene, that these people were drunk.

However, IF it is true that Rebelo wants this looked at, I suppose it’s simply part of his current thorough review of the case from day one.

However, it’s probably just an attempt on the papers’ part to spin things out when there’s no real news.

Baby Grace is not Madeleine, it seems. Poor child.

The Morocco leads will probably go the same way as all the others.

Hope I’m wrong and Madeleine is found safe today.

Then posters can start wondering how and why the McCanns organised for her to be taken there!!! They’ll have to hone their acting skills if she IS found. Some Anorak posters have not found them convincing enough for their liking up to now. When they’ve been stoical they’ve been accused of coldness. When visibly distraught they’ve been accused of ham acting.

    Ah well.

Off for long day’s work so no chance to look in at Anorak again today.

  16. 16 Swannie Says:

    13 Anna

The amount her parents and the others were drinking would be VERY relevant, because if they didn\’t have that much to drink and so WEREN\’T DRUNK, then they can\’t use intoxication as an excuse for all their conflicting accounts of that evening!

    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article426965.ece

  17. 17 Anna Says:

    Maria

The criticism of Kate’s emotions has been unusual. We hear that a normal mother should be devastated at loosing her daughter, but she is not allowed to panic without coming under criticism. (Why the word ‘they’). If she was completely rational at the time of pointing out that Madeleine was gone, that would have been unnatural too. Then she is cold because she is managing (not blocking out the overwhelming truth of what has happened out of a need to carry on). When there seems to be no change and Madeleine is not found, then breaking down is just too late.

Why are we, as people, so insistent that everybody be rational all of the time, and why do we have such a narrow definition of normality? Certainly it seems to suit the media when it comes to speculating on a person’s every word or thought, and selling it to the public. The new trend seems to be reality tv, invasion of privacy for public comment on terrible trauma and trauma response.

  18. 18 Anna Says:

    Swannie

Do we know that there is conflicting accounts of the evening from the McCanns or from the press? When the age of a woman said to have seen Madeleine is recorded differently by different journalists, do we argue that she is having an identity crisis or is actually not sane? Or that the journalists are writting inacurately? I think a lot of the conflicting reports may have been misunderstandings.

What if the McCanns are arguing how much they drank and not the table? this may be why accounts of the evening differ between bills and what is told. Maybe there is more than one way of looking at things, that’s all.

  19. 19 toni.b Says:

Hi all, another weekend of spin I see to get us all going

  20. 20 Grandad Says:

How strange that one of the strongest factors that seemed to link Baby Grace with Madeleine (her distinctive teeth) is now given as the reason why BG cannot be M. Unless the US authorities have access to Maddy’s dental records, how can they be so sure? Could this be a smokescreen to fool the McCanns into a false sense of security?

  21. 21 chenier Says:

I’m pretty sure that no police force would be prepared to ignore data because named suspects do not wish the data to be collected….

  22. 22 Anna Says:

    Granddad

I think Baby Grace had longer hair than Madeleine at the time she went missing. If Baby Grace was Madeleine, it would mean she could not have died in May. So the McCanns would have nothing to worry about.

    Chenier

    I agree

  23. 23 Dr. Watson Says:

    Dear The Other Doc. Watson,

Please change your name. It is confusing to new posters to Anorak . You were asked to change it yesterday, and you agreed. There is plenty of names out there.

  24. 24 Karen Says:

    Da Royale

I live on the West Coast and I wasn’t slagging it off, I’m just bored by all the self-defeating cliché whines and rants that some people still trot out and inflict on the rest of us. And I don’t see how that makes me a snob.

  25. 25 Rab Says:

21 Anna, I am not sure you chose your words that wisely.

“So the McCanns would have nothing to worry about”, has that unsettling implication, that I have inferred from all the more recent spin, that it is more important to prove the McCanns’ innocence than to actually find Madeleine alive.

I do, however, understand what you mean.

  26. 26 Grandad Says:

    Anna

I understand that hair continues to grow after death and that there can be some doubt about the time of death, depending on the conditions under which a body has been stored. Also consider the possibility that Maddie did not die on 3 May but some time later.

  27. 27 chenier Says:

According to the Mirror Metodo 3 are following up a sighting at Barcelona Airport.

‘There is only one airport in Barcelona city, commonly known by the locals as “L’Aeroport del Prat”.

  28. 28 Dr. Watson Says:

    Mods and Admin,

    Could you please help,

Who is posting under The Other Doc. Watson name? I asked him repeatedly to choose something less confusing for others. His views are very changing and controvertial, and I do not want to be mixed up with him by other people.

  29. 29 PeterMac Says:

    25 grandad
Hair definitively does not continue to grow after death, nor finger and toenails.
The myth continues because after death the surrounding tissues begin to dry out and shrink back slightly, making it look as though the hair has grown.

  30. 30 chenier Says:

    According to Reuters:
