Madeleine McCann: Anthony Bennett Sues, CBS And Fox Entertain, And Robert Murat

bennett Madeleine McCann: Anthony Bennett Sues, CBS And Fox Entertain, And Robert Murat MADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann

DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – McCANNS TO FACE NEGLECT CHARGES – Lawyer’s private prosecution”

Page 7: “Parents face private prosecution” - Meet retired solicitor Anthony Bennett, 60. He’s a former prospective parliamentary candidate for the UK Independence Party. He says “Kate and Gerry had admitted leaving their three children unattended in Portugal”. He has sent his application for a summons to magistrates near the couple’s home in Leicestershire

Says the justice seeking Mr Bennett: “I think the case is very simple. By the McCanns’ own admission they have left their children unattended for a significant period of time. What troubles me is that there has been no prosecution by the relevant authorities, namely Leicestershire police and social services”

He’s making a point?

“I think this matter should be put before the court. Do we want a society in which it is acceptable to leave children alone? If my application concentrates people’s minds on whether it should ever be acceptable then I will have achieved what I set out to achieve”

Because having your child kidnapped isn’t enough?

“Police left crucial clues from Madeleine kidnap room be washed away” – “Bungling” Portuguese police failed to send Madeleine McCann’s bed linen to forensics. After “several days2 in situ, the bed was stripped by cleaning staff

DAILY MIRROR page 23: “MADELEINE CLUES LOST”

“Vital evidence” never went to forensics. Sheets, pillow, duvet. Says an insider: “Half the evidence disappeared.” But how would you know what you had lost if you never had it?

THE SUN page 15: “MADDIE COPS DIDN’T EVEN CHEcK HER BED – Bunglers failed to do a DNA test”

Says the source: “It is obvious it would have been good if they had sent sheets, blankets, pillows and even the mattress. Some important clue could have been found”

Anthony Bennett is on the case. This is the same Mr Bennett who “once failed to bring a private case against entertainer Michael Barrymore over alleged drug offences”

Says Clarence Mitchell: “Kate and Gerry committed no offence”

DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE ‘HELD’ BY MURAT – Amazing NEW sighting is revealed”

Friends of the McCanns claim they saw Robert Murat “running from the seaside apartment”. Says Robert Murat’s lawyer: “Rubbish”

Page 15: “MADDIE: TAPAS PALS PUT MURAT IN FRAME”

Two of the Tapas Seven say they saw Murat flee the holiday complex. Portuguese paper 24 Horas, quoting a judicial source, says Jane Tanner and her partner Russell O’Brien “fingered British expat Robert Murat during a face-to-face meeting in May”

The insider tells the paper: “They said Murat was the person they saw next to the apartment where Madeleine was sleeping when the alarm was raised”

Says the Portuguese tabloid: “This is the same couple said to have indicated to Portuguese public prosecutors they intend altering their statements after it was made public that they could become official suspects”

DAILY MAIL page 39: “Madeleine police didn’t even check her bed for DNA”

The abductors cold have left evidence on the missing child’s bedding. Hairs found were sent to the forensics lab

Says “forensics expert” Allan Scott: “It is very difficult to be in contact with another surface and not leave a trace of yourself behind”

Russell O’Brien, Jane Tanner and the McCanns have read the report that they saw Murat running away from the apartment complex. They call the report “laughable”

DAILY TELEGRAPH page 13: “McCanns friends pointed Murat out to police”

“Two of the so-called Tapas Nine - the name given to Mr and Mrs McCann and the seven friends who dined with them on May 3 at their Algarve holiday complex - allegedly pointed out Mr Murat to police, a Portuguese newspaper claimed”

Says the source: “They were all placed in the same room and two people that had left the restaurant pointed to Robert Murat. They said he was the person they saw next to the apartment where Madeleine was sleeping around the time the alarm was raised”

Read more about that here

A friend of the McCanns says: “They have no recollection of ever meeting Mr Murat and the idea that they were asked to sit around a table while their friends pointed him out is ludicrous”

“Madeleine’s parents face fresh legal action” - Anthony Bennett is in the papers

FOX TV: America’s Most Wanted is coming to London to look for new evidence in the Madeleine McCann disappearance case. World’s Most Wanted will be broadcast from London on November 17 and will include a report from correspondent John Turchin in Praia da Luz. Says Fox: “Turchin analyses the crime scene and breaks down possible scenarios of what may have happened to Madeleine in an investigation that brings him face-to-face with the first official suspect in the case”

CBS: “The events surrounding Madeleine McCann’s disappearance remain a mystery that has captured the world’s attention. 48 Hours Mystery goes undercover in an international investigation of the missing child and has obtained exclusive never-before-seen home movies of the family taken in the wake of the tragedy and uncovering new details in the case”

“Shot by a family friend, the intimate footage tracks the McCann family following Maddie’s disappearance from their rented apartment in the Algarve region of Portugal”

THE TIMES, THE INDEPENDENT and THE GUARDIAN: No Madeleine news today

  1. 1 Patch Says:

Oh, Anorak! Where have you been when we needed you!

  2. 2 Patch Says:

    1st and 2nd?

  3. 3 Patch Says:

    And 3rd?

  4. 4 Patch Says:

Tony Bennett we love you! Go Tony!!!

  5. 5 Patch Says:

Jane Tanner breaks the silence to tell the same old lies. Her sighting is refuted by Jeremy Wilkins, tennis partner of Gerry’s. I hope it says that on the Panorama programme. Tony Bennett is a hero! Posters on mirror forums want to buy him a drink (someone wants to buy him the entire pub!) Many people say they want to help him and want to get in touch with him. I’m not a member of the mirror forum, so perhaps someone who is can tell them that he is around quite a bit here. I just hope that some other deecent solicitors will join him and ask for justice for Madeleine.

  6. 6 wtf Says:

AT LAST!!!!! What happened. Just wanted to say good luck to Tony and well done. Could this site being down have anything to do with Tony’s casedo you think?

  7. 7 Ade Says:

    back at last
i’ve been through youtube three times looking up old comedy clips…
i thought i was barred for being boring ;-)

  8. 8 chenier Says:

    Anorak, where art you?

Well, when it comes to Panorama:

‘The BBC has apologised after admitting that a documentary about the testing of HIV drugs on children contained “serious breaches” of its editorial guidelines on accuracy and impartiality.

In unpublished documents seen by MediaGuardian.co.uk, the BBC admitted to “very serious issues” in the BBC2 This World documentary Guinea Pig Kids, which originally aired in 2004. The corporation said the programme had led to “discussions at the highest editorial level”.’

‘Those involved with the documentary on the BBC side are still at the corporation, including executive producer Karen O’Connor, now head of current affairs, and the This World series producer Sandy Smith, who now edits Panorama.’

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2007/oct/23/2

Not calculated to inspire one with confidence in the upcoming Panorama programme on the disappearance of Madeleine.

  9. 9 Ade Says:

    congratulations to tony bennett :-)

  10. 10 chenier Says:

    Possibly that should have been

    ‘Anorak, where wert you?’

“Not calculated to inspire one with confidence in the upcoming Panorama programme on the disappearance of Madeleine.”
but if it is biased then we can complain, citing the info - and especilly name names - that you have referred to…

  12. 12 Patch Says:

And Tony. Cheers! You look nothing like I expected (expected a younger version of the singer, Tony Bennett!) As well as leaving the 3 kids alone, I think that the McCanns are also culpable for failing to alert the police as soon as M was found to be missing. Especially so as Jane Tanner had seen a man carrying a child and she must’ve realised as soon as the alarm was raised that M had been abducted. Kate and Gerry also say that they knew immediately that she had been abducted so why did they not ring the police immediately? Two reasons, then, for prosecution, in my view. They waited 40 minutes before they rang the police. If there had been an abduction (please!) they allowed the person to have time to escape. Any responsible parent would’ve rung the police immediately. More reason to doubt their ridiculous story.

  13. 13 jan24 Says:

good luck mr bennett, about time too.oh not you but someone.

  14. 14 wtf Says:

  21. 21 Ade Says:

apologies if this is old hat - been out and about for a couple of days:
    http://portugalresident.com/portugalresident/showstory.asp?ID=22714
“To ensure that no stone is left unturned, all files related to the investigation are being reviewed by a PJ technical team from Lisbon, whose responsibility it is to check and re-check all the information collected since May 3, when Madeleine disappeared from Praia da Luz. This also includes reviewing all the information relating to suspect Robert Murat, who was the first to be named arguido, only a few days after Madeleine went missing. The Portuguese police also seem to be failing to stop the speculation and criticism surrounding the investigation.

Recent statements by Piers Merchant, assistant to British MEP Roger Knapman, accusing the Portuguese legal system and the PJ of being “corrupt” has had short shrift from the Portuguese Justice Minister.

Alberto Costa said these were “unworthy statements from the UK Independence Party” that “don’t reflect, at all, the official position of the British authorities”.

    Criticised

Pinto Monteiro and Alípio Ribeiro, respectively the country’s Public Prosecutor and the national Director of the Polícia Judiciária, also strongly criticised Merchant’s statements.

Pinto Monteiro said “any reply to a European Parliament representative must be political and not judicial” and Alípio Ribeiro accused Merchant of “infamous” and “irresponsible” words.”

i love the opening paragraph “to ensure no stone is unturned” - i bet that pissed them off nicely :-)
looks like knapman’s gaffe has not helped the righteous pair
by the way i have been reading that the knapman email has been scrubbed from the web… interesting ;-)

  22. 22 wtf Says:

I have a feeling that any programme about maddy at the minute will be highly biased. Clarence the cross eyed lion will have his sticky paws everywhere at the moment. so far the BBC havnt exactly been ground breaking have they? Does anyone remember Daktari by the way?

  23. 23 Glue Says:

I´ve read many posts and threads here i can´t believe how wrong you are about the PJ. Many of you may say bad things because don´t know nothing about it , but some of you say stupid and armfull things just for pure evil.
Lets put some thing strait , do you know that PJ is considered by the rest of the Police forces around the world as 1 of the 5 best Police forces. PJ as one of the most low rate of unsucessfull cases being solved .It as stait of the art laboratories and in no way is inferior equipt than British police.Do you think that they are gone to close the Maddie case ? Wrong.May be a while but i can sure you , what happen to Maddie will be discovered. Portugal as also hight-tech forensic laboratories , at the the same level as the laboratory in Birmingham, they do forensics for many Police forces and Countrys in the world .The only reason in McCann´s case to do that forensics in Uk where do to ,clear up all suspections that the forensics where baddly done , as the pressure of Uk autorithys.Do you think that PJ are apes or something??? For Portugal can say this ,turism only represents 18 % of Pib, and most of turism is gererated by Nationals ,then Uk turist, Spanish ,Germans, French and Others. So please ask me if you heve any question and don´t say things you don´t know.

  26. 26 AgendaWide Says:

    Good Luck Tony Bennett
It has been disgusting that sympathy for Madeleine appeared to be providing her unrepentant parents the platform to preach their callous brand of child-care, which could lead to dangerous new social norms, not in the interest of child safety. If your action leads to clarification of the laws on leaving chidren alone and clear guidelines for carers to support safety in childhood, then that will be a very good outcome.
Another legal challenge I would support is the changing of the law to prevent people capitalising on personal tragedy. The findMadeleine business represents competition for the charities it could have instead supported. People have only so much disposable cash to support charities and they gave it to the McConn business, thinking it was a charity. I would imagine that charities like Missing People and Unicef could have done as much if not more to support people with missing loved ones. But they wanted the loot for themselves, the mortgage, the PR and the McFraudo company.

  27. 27 wtf Says:

I think the stupid and hurtful comments about the pj come from McCann supporters. I think you will find the majority of people on this site completely agree with you and find it unbelievable how they are trying to discredit the pj
