Madeleine McCann: ‘Tapas Jane’ Tanner, Vicky Hamilton And America’s Most Wanted: America Fights Back
MADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY MIRROR front page: “HAUNTED”
“McCann witness speaks out” – an “exclusive”.
Last night the Mirror saw preview tapes of the BBC TV Panorama show, featuring an interview with Jane Tanner - “The family friend who thinks she saw Madeleine McCann carried away in her pyjamas”
Ms Tanner is “tortured by an awful belief - that she should have saved the little girl”. She tells of her “absolute horror” at living with the “terrible” thought. She helped produce an eFit picture of the man she saw
Says Jane Tanner: “Never in a million years did I think it could have been Madeleine. I just saw a person walk along the top of the road with what could have been a child in his arms”
Ms Tanner is a “marketing executive”. She is talking. So too is a “friend”: This unnamed friend says: “It’s true to say she is haunted by that thought and goes over and over it every day. She thinks to herself, ‘If only I had stopped him’ and ‘If only I had seen his face’”
A friend talks. But Tanner can talk for herself…
Says Jane’s friend: “Basically her heart went through her boots, because she instantly thought of the man carrying a child which she had seen about an hour earlier. When the Portuguese police turned up she told them about it at once. She later became convinced the child was Madeleine”
Says Clarence Mitchell: “All the friends have become frustrated at the secrecy under the Portuguese legal system. Jane felt now was the time to put the record straight”
THE SUN front page: “Tapas Jane tells all”
“In an emotional interview Jane Tanner, a close friend of Kate and Gerry and one of the Tapas Nine, spoke of her ‘horrible realisation I had seen the abductor and done nothing’”
It is a “riveting TV special”
Says Tapas Jane: “I’m talking now because I’m being called a liar and a fantasist. I know what I saw, I know the truth… All of us have told the truth. There is no cover up, or lying”
DAILY MAIL: “Madeleine: Suspect Robert Murat hires publicist Max Clifford ‘to clear his name’” (As reported on Anorak back in May)
“Mr Clifford has said he would be willing to represent Mr Murat, a father of one, but only once he is no longer a formal suspect in the case”
Look out for Robert Murat on OK! (My Villa Make Over), Hello! (My Diana Hell) and the Daily Express (Expat Horror)
“Mr Murat’s mother is interviewed in the Panorama programme to be shown on Monday. She discusses her son’s whereabouts on the night Madeleine disappeared”
“Madeleine investigation ‘to finish at Christmas’” - Portuguese daily Correio da Manha has reported that the Policia Judiciara is increasingly concerned at the lack of concrete evidence in the case - in particular, evidence proving that Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry were involved in her disappearance”
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – I SAW MAN CARRYING HER AWAY. Tapas 9 woman tells her story for the first time”
“I SAW MAN CARRYING HER AWAY” – Says a “friend of Jane”: “She goes over it and over it in her mind. She suffers huge remorse because she did not and could not have realised its significance immediately”
Says Clarence Mitchell: “We believe the Panorama programme will go a long way to show as wide a public as possible the truth about Madeleine’s abduction”
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE - I SAW WHO TOOK HER”
News of “HAUNTED Jane Tanner”
THE SCOTSMAN: “McCann friend insists she saw Madeleine’s abduction”
Says Ms Tanner: “I have not spoken because the Portuguese police told us not to talk about these things at all”
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “Missing children: The torment and hope”. Missing here
“There are many ghosts among us: all of those, usually young, who go missing each year, to haunt and torment the people who love them”
Like Madeleine McCann…
“Until a few days ago, Vicky Hamilton was one of these ghosts - a 15-year-old schoolgirl from West Lothian who disappeared 16 years ago, on February 10, 1991, after spending the weekend with her sister”
Vicky’s remains were discovered in a sandpit in the garden of a house in Margate, Kent – “by police searching for another missing teenager, Dinah McNicol, who also disappeared 16 years ago”
Know: “Looking for one dead girl, they found another”. And Madeleine?
“There are many different kinds of missing. There is the missing of a child such as Madeleine McCann, tiny, helpless, blonde, adorable…She had disappeared for all of us”
THE GUARDIAN: “McCanns’ friend says she saw Madeleine being abducted”
Rachael Oldfield, broke the news. Says Ms Tanner: “I went out to the front door of our apartment. Rachael came and said: ‘Oh, Madeleine’s gone’. That was the first I heard about it. Then I saw Kate and Fiona [Payne, another of the party] shouting: ‘Madeleine!’ And then Kate said to me: ‘Jane, Madeleine’s gone, Madeleine’s gone’. That was the first I’d heard”
THE TIMES: “Kate and Gerry McCann’s friend goes on television to insist: I saw abduction of Madeleine”
Says Jane Tanner: “From day one we have done everything we could to help them with the investigation”
IRISH INDEPENDENT: “Maddy witness breaks silence”
“I know what I saw and I think it’s important that people know what I saw because I believe Madeleine was abducted,” Says Jane Tanner
LOS ANGELES TIMES: Saturday’s “highlights” - “Think globally: ‘America’s Most Wanted: America Fights Back’ (9 p.m. Fox) travels to London to investigate the case of Madeleine McCann, the British toddler who disappeared in May”
BOSTON HERALD: “A Stoughton private investigator hired by the CBS show “48 Hours” to probe the mysterious disappearance of a little British girl believes her parents are innocent but found holes in their story. Joe Moura, who speaks fluent Portuguese, spent 15 days last month posing undercover as a vacationing businessman at the Ocean Club in Portugal’s resort town of Praia da Luz - where little Madeleine McCann vanished in May in a story that has made international headlines”
FINANCIAL TIMES: Frankfurt is set to open a “Museum for the Comic Arts” to honour the publishers of Titanic magazine, the magazine that brought us adverts of Madeleine McCann chocolate and floor cleaner

“That is about the only rational explanation that may support the abduction theory, the fact that they may have been so wasted they really didn’t have a clue what was going on.”
But reports have Portuguese police saying that although it was clear they had been drinking, they were NOT “so wasted they really didn’t have a clue what was going on.”
Of course if they were doing opiates or other drugs (possibly from the afternoon), they could been far more “wasted” earlier in the day than they were at 10PM. Not that I agree this ” may support the abduction theory”. It supports the “accidental death theory”.

News in brief
Madeleine kidnapper arrest ‘soon’
A private investigator hunting Madeleine McCann has claimed in an American TV documentary that the four-year-old is alive. Francisco Marco, who is paid by Gerry and Kate McCann’s wealthy backer, Brian Kennedy, said: “We are 100% sure that she is alive. We are sure she was abducted. We are very, very close to finding the kidnapper.” On BBC’s Panorama tomorrow Gerry McCann says: “I’ve no doubt Madeleine was targeted and that makes us sick to the core. I think the true word is predator
According to the Times
*****************************************
Yes Marco makes these outrageous claims. If this man is really a private detective - how good can he be to state on national tv that he knows the identity of the kidnapper; is aware of how the adbuction took place and Madeleine was in Portugal for 2 days before being transported by car and being handed off to another person in another country? Not very bright is it? Especially since Marco claims he knows she is still alive. Would it be prudent for a PI to announce all of this if they in fact had any concern at all f or the child’s safety?
They didn’t say who the wealthy McCann supporter was who is footing Marco’s bill. They also did not mention Metodo 3 or say if Marco is connected to M3.
———————————————————————————————————————————–
They do not mention that they will rescue Maddie, they just want the kidnapper? This reminds me of “the American girl” they claimed to have found in Morocco, they did not rescue her either. Claimed they reported it to Interpol, still no girl.

So the photo at the top, whats the point of a photo of Kate with Maddie - wonder if there is a contemporary photo of the other T9 woman who had her baby by IVF at the same time (suspicious? You should be!).

380 Good comment as usual Peter.

380 looks like they have realised that its worse to be considered guilty of disposing of a corpse illegally (and perverting the course of justice,, obtaining money by false pretences etc) than it is to admit neglect!
It looks like at last they are cracking and admitting the neglect charge, thanks to Tony B!
Of course it might be said to be a change calculated to avoid charges which are much worse. Too late perhaps, as now most people (ludicrously of course) believe there is more to this, that they for some reason planned to dispose of their less than perfect (in their eyes not mine!) child.

Thanks! Excellent! Now perhaps these bastards can be prosecuted! First for neglect knowing there was a risk and second for breaking protuguese secrecy law.
Kate has said ‘There isnt a textbook is there’. Stupid bitch, does she think that normal loving and capable parents need a textbook which tells them not to leave their children alone whilst they go to the bar?
Gerry is admitting that they were concerned about security before they left their children exposed.
I hope Tony Bennett is reading these reportsd (as I know he will be!) because at last the McCanns are admitting they have failed in their parental duties, they left their children fully aware of the risk they were taking.

Have just read the Times on Line article to which you refer, written I think on 16th Sept. Am wondering if that writer is still convinced. 46 pointless paragraphs expanding on the theme that people only criticised the McCs, Kate in particular, because they were jealous of her looks and status and enjoyed treating the matter as a great Who Dunit. Not until the last 3 paragraphs, before blog comments, was there an admission that the McCs may not have done themselves any favours with their high profile campaign…
Now that writer has the benefit of understanding that the public are primarily concerned with the whereabouts of Madeleine, the inconsistencies in the stories of the Tapas 9, the dismissal of any evidence incriminating the McCs of more than child neglect, not to mention
the reluctance to produce DNA evidence from Birmingham, and a tendency to ignore the evidence from the cadaver dogs brought to Portugal from England, perhaps the writer will concede there is reason for concern over the mainly pro-McC reporting. From the blogs, where people can express well thought out opinions, it is more than clear that people are not reflecting anything other than concern for Madeleine and a desire to discover the truth, despite all attempts at a high level to have this suppressed

None of the other T9 conspirators (for this is clearly what they are) have spoken in public but they arent prevented from doing so. They choose not to, and in my opinion this is not to assist the police or prevent harm to Madeleine - but to protect themselves from charges of neglect.
—————————————————————————————————————————————
A spokesman for Portugal’s Policia Judiciaria said: “To speak out like this while an investigation is ongoing is illegal.
“It is a breach of the secrecy of justice laws and as such is punishable by up two years in prison. These laws are in place to protect evidence and for anyone connected with an investigation - be it a witness, arguido or police officer - to discuss the case publicly is not permitted

380 was a test! Amazed to see no spam word required now.
You may be interested to read the prompt reply I had from my Labour MP after sending him the petition letter regarding the outburst by Piers Merchant against the Portugues authorities:
” Thank you for your letter of the 12th November about the case of Kate and Gerry McCann and their missing daughter, Madeleine.
As you suggest, this is a very sad and tragic case and I sincerely hope Madeleine is found safe and well and returned to her parents.
I am concerned to read of your comments about the aparent undue “interference” of the Prime Minister in the proceedings and the impact this may have on the relationship between the Brtitish and Portuguese. I will be raising your concerns with the Prime Minister, asking for his comments on the points you have made and I will ensure you receive a copy of his response. ”
Have others had a response from their MP?

That is about the only rational explanation that may support the abduction theory, the fact that they may have been so wasted they really didn’t have a clue what was going on. Of course, that doesn’t clear them of issues relating to obstructing/perverting a criminal investigation. I guess the whole ‘fund’ thing could then possibly be ‘explained’ as a massive guilt complex that snowballed and the ‘publicity’ enabled them to avoid facing up to their ‘role/responsibilities’ in the whole sorry affair.

CBS programme: If I have understood the private investigator right, he seems to know who did it, why he did it and how he did it. He allegedly has given this information to the Portuguese Police.

What was really odd about the CBS ‘48 Hours’ programme was that Kate’s mother repeatedly referred to Madeleine in the past tense.
Disappointing to me was that the show did not address British governments intense role in this saga and try to explain why. Also strange was that the Portuguese-American PI Maura obviously had a secret camera but they never showed any meaningful footage of his undercover work at the Ocean Club. Like, they never showed any video of him asking tthe employees questions about what they believe may have happened; what they thought or what they knew.

367. Kris, lol that may have been their intention but it backfired. I know you won’t be surprised to hear how the intelligent sleuths on Anorak scattered like roaches (many having seen sun’s rays for the first time in many months) and posted on various other forums and blogs like schizophrenic rejected lovers:
Anyone know where Anorak is?
Anorak has been shut down by the powers that be.
British government has seized Anorak’s forum files and is ransacking Anorak’s London offices.
Anyone know what is going on with Anorak? I think they’ve been saboutaged by Gordie. Head for the hills British people living in cities - you’ve been warned. The writings on the wall: No one is safe.
Sadly, I’m not making any of this up.

363. Harry Hindsight,
Glad to see you hear I thought you had said you were gone until shattering case smashing info blowing everything out of the water surfaced. Not complaining but you don’t sound like yourself. Maybe an appointment with a massage therapist is called for? I never heard you so ummm….mean before. Usually you are good natured when you make fun of others. Anyway, glad to see you. Could you explain how we can follow the evidence when we do not know what it is.

372. Oh that’s weird my name appears as anonymous? Hi everyone it’s Thea. I should have also said that if the other Madeleine programmes in UK and Portugal featured Marco then he has made his alleged knowledge known to the world on tv - not only “nationally”. And if not, international media will report on what was stated on US programme.

Evening everyone
Glad to see you are all back and recovering from withdrawal.
We shall be changing platforms, and there may be more breaks in supply, some upgrades are incompatible with the current server, and thats what keeps going apeshit.”
In the meantime, a few of the normal users here went to Anorak forums to chat (some talked about the case, others just chatted in general); so for technical issues in the future, that may be a place for both of you to check out (if you don’t already).

Kris - 367 Yes, what happened to the site may I ask.
November 18th, 2007 at 3:11 am
But anyway, Jane Tanner sorta looked better in the first picture where she looked all angry, don’t you think??
I think Annie’s old lady is right— Maddie died in the bathtub. But then why why why the huge coverup?!
November 18th, 2007 at 3:02 am
Here’s what I want to know: Do you think it’s possible Mods and Admin took out the website for two days… INTENTIONALLY… just so we would calm our spastic & paranoid selves down a bit? Were we getting out of hand? I ask because I use this tactic with my two pre-schoolers when they are out of hand making a ruckus over, say, a plastic frog. I say, “Give me that frog!” and I put the frog on a high shelf, out of reach, until everyone has CALMED THEMSELVES. Then we return the frog into the hands of the child who is most calm. Then we resume normal play until, once again, the frog attacks the Polly Pocket, and then we repeat.

That said, I’m so glad to see Anorak back! I was having terrible withdrawals Friday afternoon… that was two full days gone, right?

November 18th, 2007 at 2:36 am
Well Annie it certainly is weird that the lady you spoke to mentioned Maddie dying in the bathroom with such certainty. Has she any idea where the body might be? Also, didn’t they find shower curtains in that bag by the airport? Maybe there was blood on the curtains?
I think that lady is right.
