Madeleine McCann: Case ‘Collapses’ Against Kate And Gerry McCann, Maybe
MADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
THE SUN front page: “MADDIE: Cops ignored key witness – Kate and Gerry ‘clear in week”
Page 13: “KATE AND GERRY’S DNA HOPE” – “DNA ‘evidence against Kate and Gerry collapsed yesterday”
Not the McCanns. It’s Kate and Gerry. Rather, “Doctors Kate and Gerry”
“It is understood British forensic experts told Portuguese cops that tests show NOTHING conclusive” – So nothing to prove things one way or another…
Says the McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell: “Police should now get on with looking for Maddie”
“MADDIE PROWLER IGNORED - Tourist told cops of weirdo” – Amanda Mills “spotted a skulking figure” near the apartment where Madeleine was last seen. It was a week before her disappearance.
“Essex mum-of-three Amanda” says: “It was late at night. This guy came along, put his hands on a pushchair outside an apartment and tried to walk off with it. He ran off when I made a loud noise to let him know he was being watched. He seemed interested in the windows. He was looking at and through them. He set warning bells off in my mind. He was very weird, very dodgy.”
Says Clarence Mitchell: “Amanda is at the top of Metodo 3’s list. This could be crucial”
DAILY MAIL page 11: “McCanns ‘in the clear’ after DNA tests”
The Forensic Science Service says tests remain “ongoing”, but the McCanns’ legal team have called on the Portuguese police to lift the couple’s status as official suspects.
Says Clarence Mitchell:
“Enough is enough. There can be nothing that incriminates Kate and Gerry, because they are innocent. We are hopeful this meeting will help speed up the process eliminating Kate and Gerry from the inquiry…We are hopeful common sense will prevail and that Portuguese police will see Kate and Gerry have no case to answer. Forensic evidence – if there is any – is inconclusive or explicable, so they should be eliminated from the inquiry”
DAILY EXPRESS page 15: “MADELEINE: Calls to clear McCanns as Portuguese police fly home after DNA talks”
But the police in Portugal “are increasingly accepting that without damning evidence, they may have to clear the couple”
DAILY MIRROR page 6: “ENOUGH’S ENOUGH – McCanns demand to be cleared as cops’ summit ends in failure”
The four-strong Portuguese team are “no closer to solving the mystery”, says the paper.
And the facts? Well, both Gerry and Kate are “doctors”. Both are “39”. And Madeleine McCann is missing…
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE – New DNA shock for parents”
Page 13: “MADDIE MUM AND DAD STILL IN THE FRAME – Portuguese cops call for more tests”
If tests are inconclusive, then why not have more?
“Scientists have told police their findings put Madeleine McCann’s parents in the frame for her disappearance”
A spokesman for the FSS says: “It is common for scientists to meet with detectives in the course of criminal investigations to explain our methods. Our inquiries are continuing. Tests are on-going’’
Says the Star: “Detectives accused ex-anaesthetist Kate of accidentally killing Madeleine after giving her sedatives to help her sleep”
Doctor Kate is a suspect, but no charges have been made against her…
THE GUARDIAN: “Bid to clear McCanns after DNA trip”
Those DNA tests “on blood samples, bodily fluids and hair found in the McCanns’ holiday apartment and the vehicle they hired 25 days after the four-year-old disappeared are “routine”
THE INDEPENDENT page 51: “The Big Question: Are we any closer to finding out what happened to Madeleine McCann?”
After days of ignoring the biggest human interest story in years, the Indy wakes up. And it has questions that any tabloid reader can help it answer:
Why are we asking this now?
What will they discuss?
Are they meeting the McCanns?
Are the McCanns still formal suspects?
Are there any other suspects?
Any other evidence?
Has Madeleine been seen since May?
Who is looking for Madeleine?
Could someone be charged soon?
And: Is the investigation any nearer to reaching a conclusion?
Yes…
* Yesterday’s ‘DNA Summit’ was a significant event that should push the case on
* There have been many sightings of Madeleine and the case remains high profile, despite being more than six months old
* The Portuguese police know more than they are letting on, but are bound by secrecy lawsNo…
* No trace of Madeleine has been found, despite a huge police investigation and the efforts of private investigators
* The investigation was handled badly from the start, meaning that all leads have gone cold
* An army of scientists, abduction experts and sniffer-dog teams have failed to come up with any answers
Yes and no. Maybe…

My friemd the Medium, said the old boy who used to live in this dilapidated farmhouse ( now in spirit) told her that “Madeleine had been there, she was not there now but that there would be clues to follow” which we always maintained was DNA

Perhaps Maddie was found dead stuck in somewhere after a search and that would account for the lapse in time before police were called and also the mobile calls, etc.
*************************************************************************
I think we are all agreed she is very, very probably dead but I still don’t think the parents did it, I still think she was abducted and dumped after all the fuss about her eye, and I have to think like that, because the thought of parents who - upon finding their child dead, not immediately calling for help i.e. Doctor, ambulance, police, Girl Guides or whatever, does not sit well with me, this would make them the most unbelievably cold, calculating, callous monsters on the face of the planet.

The poor girl is dead long ago, eaten by the fish in the Mediterranean sea.
The parents are HYPOCRITES!
They either killed her (probably Kate in an outrage trew her against the wall) or they found her injured and covered her death.
This morning BBC said a detectives firm in Barcelona, which specializes in child abductions is very, very close to the truth…there are facts which speak that the girl was kept TWO DAYS
alive in the trunk of the rented car(probably this explains the sedatives);then she was driven to onother lcation and handed over to a WOMAN.
The BBC reportage will be repeated tomorrow.Watch it!

Saying ‘They’ve taken her’ doesn’t seem at all odd or suspicious to me. I just assume that where Kate comes from ‘they’ can be used with a more general meaning. She clearly couldn’t say ‘He’s taken her’ or ‘She’s taken her’ - that would be too specific.
However, the interesting thing about that article (let’s put caution aside and assume everything was reported correctly) is that the family claimed she didn’t say it. Why such a hullaballoo?

I don’t know what happened to Madeleine that night, but I just wish the parents would come out and say, ‘We were bloody idiots to leave our three young children alone. We are responsible for whatever fate befell Madeleine. We are prepared to face the legal consequences of our actions, and are fully deserving of the public outcry. Please, please do not leave your child alone.’ Or words to that effect
++++++++++++++++++
While I agree 100% with you Eva, I wonder if anyone would believe them after all this time? That without any shadow of a doubt is what they should have done in the very early days.
The issue here is that the McCann’s have always come across as far more concerned about their public perception and legal position than any real care or regret about what happened to Madeleine. Just my opinion of course. If they did what you are suggesting now I suspect that many would simply refuse to believe that it was any more than a manoeuvre to cover their own butts.

Very interesting about the wandering off theory. How many people are found years later, ie. in walls, cupboards, and elsewhere. If Maddie wandered off she could be anywhere in that complex,
ie nook and cranny. Still think the Tapas 9 know what happened to her though.

McCann Pals May Be Made Suspects
Dec 1 2007 By Victoria Ward
FOUR of the Madeleine McCann “Tapas Nine” have been warned they could be named official suspects, it has been claimed.
Reports said Dr Russell O’Brien, his partner Jane Tanner and their friends Dr David Payne and Matthew Oldfield have all been told they could be made arguidos like Kate and Gerry McCann.
http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/2007/12/01/mccann-pals-may-be-made-suspects-86908-20188577/
They were among the nine people, including the McCanns, who were dining together in Praia da Luz on the night four-year-old Madeleine vanished.
The warning emerged after it was revealed Portuguese police were demanding the group be interviewed again.
The news that they were preparing to send a letter of appeal to British police dashed growing hopes that Madeleine’s parents could soon be officially cleared.
A friend of the group said last night: ‘There has always been the possibility that some or all of the friends from the tapas restaurant may be made arguidos if they were reinterviewed by police.
“All of those who have given statements are absolutely confident about what they said because it is the truth.”
Dr Payne, 41, from Leicester, was the last person outside the McCann family to see Madeleine alive on May 3.
He went to the family’s apartment at 6.30pm and saw Kate with her three kids, while Glaswegian heart consultant Gerry played tennis.
Mr Oldfield, 37, from London, was the last of the group to check on the kids that night, about 30 minutes before the alarm was raised.
He told police he saw two-year-old McCann twins Sean and Amelie but Madeleine’s bed was out of sight.
Jane Tanner, from Exeter, told police she saw a man carrying a child from the apartment at 9.15pm but police say there are contradictions in her statements.
Dr O’Brien, 36, left the group for around 45 minutes to look after his own child, who was ill in his apartment.
The letter of appeal demands British authorities re-interview the group about the night of May 3.
The McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “Kate and Gerry’s friends have consistently said they are happy to be re-interviewed by police if necessary.
“They are keen to help if it clears up any inconsistencies. They, like Gerry and Kate, have nothing to hide.”
Portuguese police who had been meeting British forensic experts over the case flew back home last night. They appeared grim but refused to comment on claims that DNA results were inconclusive.

Most parents make arrangements with a friend to be with the children on a roster basis.
Never heard of kids being left on their own, in a foreign country. Even in suburbia, kids get into trouble and get out as has happened, and wander along a road.
December 1st, 2007 at 8:42 am
Why do Mark Warner resorts claim to be ‘family friendly’ when what they really mean is ‘parent friendly’?
Not living in the UK, I’d never heard of them. And I had no idea there were two MW resorts in my country. They sound terrible. Their thinly veiled message is, ‘You’re going on holiday, but you’ve got to bring the pesky kids along. Never fear! We’ll keep the brats busy and away from you at meal times - you need never know you’ve GOT children!’ Ugh.
